So what are you up to in today's heat?

It's going to be 35 degrees here by midday apparently (East of England) and I can't decide what to do. I've had all week off work and haven't achieved a lot... So far I've done yoga and had breakfast!

What is everyone up to - embracing or hiding from the heat?!

I hate packing... Luckily, my only holiday this year was cancelled due to covid! Grin

Packing as I'm moving house next week! Then going for dinner with DH later to this cute Italian place I found yesterday!

Pavlova31 · 07/08/2020 10:58

Great day for drying and two loads done and pegged out.
Now sat under a parasol with my kindle and a coffee.
May be here a whileSmile

I will be mostly hiding indoors, complaining, sighing and moaning that it's too hot! I used to love the intense heat when I was younger but now I'm a peri-menopausal 46 year old I just can't stand it. I already sweat like a bastard at the best of times and it just makes me feel ill when I'm too hot Sad

jellybeanz1212 · 07/08/2020 10:59

Working lates at a busy hot train station in my bloody mask like last Friday and the heat brings out all the anti social behaviour. Going to be a nightmare.

We’re on holiday (in the UK), our holiday cottage has a private pool and my son has been in and out of it since 9am and largely entertaining himself (winner). The puppy took a quick dip and immediately realised it was a bad choice, so hes all soggy and laying in the shade.

I’m reading a new book and I’m being a mean Dad as I have my headphones on but no music so I can get a few minutes without “dad dad look!”.

We’re going on a walk in the woods this afternoon with Grandma.

My boyfriend had surgery on Tuesday and he was moved out of ICU this morning (bad reaction to the anaesthetic) so he is hopefully going to call us later, so if he manages to call it will be nice being able to actually talk to him rather than just the doctor.

Bookrat · 07/08/2020 11:02

I set off for a run this morning... but it was already too hot. So instead I will swim in the lake this afternoon, until I am thoroughly cold, and then, when I get out, I will actually appreciate the heat!

I feel very lucky to have this option. Flowers for anyone who is stuck being hot all day.

BillywigSting · 07/08/2020 11:10

I'm chilling out with a coffee in the garden while the washing finishes. We've got a bit of cloud so it's pleasantly warm atm with a cool gentle breeze.

Going to head into the town in a couple of hours for a spot of lunch with ds and check out the new ice cream shop.

Was planning on spaghetti and meatballs for tea but might end up with a bit of salad if it gets boiling hot (or we've stuffed ourselves with ice-cream).

Dp won't be back until late today so it's all very chilled out and relaxed.

I work in retail - it's the hottest day so far and I'm getting Christmas stock out Grin

Misty9 · 07/08/2020 11:20

@SimonJT hope your boyfriend is okay. And totally not mean parenting to want a few minutes respite from being asked to watch their every action! I sometimes wonder exactly what reaction my dc are hoping for!

@BillywigSting that sounds a lovely day. Mmm, ice cream... (not that I can eat it).

Flowers to fan all those having to work today

That must feel a bit crazy I expect?! It's already difficult to buy summer clothes. Crazy country

It'll be around 28c here apparently.

Sadly my day won't be spent enjoying the sun. It's my grandma's funeral - the third close family death since lockdown began (not COVID related) unfortunately. My grandma's wishes was that everyone should avoid black and wear their nice summer dresses (if it was summer) and shoes and come together to celebrate her life rather than mourn their loss. So will will do just that - can now have 25 at the funeral so at least the numbers are better.

Now to decide in a suitable summer, but still okay for a funeral, dress to put on.

BertieBassettsBits · 07/08/2020 12:04

So sorry Aragog Flowers

Aragog · 07/08/2020 12:08

Thanks.

Hoping it will be okay. As the numbers have risen we can actually have more of the family there this time - it's a different part of the family than the other two too - so a chance to catch up and reminisce rather than in, out and no one there to talk to, etc.

Meruem · 07/08/2020 12:15

Due to be 35 here too (London). I have portable air con in my bedroom. Luckily it's a good size room so I also have my desk in here and an armchair. So the air con has been on since 9am this morning! I've spent the morning getting some work done. This afternoon will be chilling in the armchair with my kindle. I'm really only leaving this room to use the loo or get food/drinks. I get really ill in the heat so this is the best place for me to be.

OooErrThor · 07/08/2020 12:48

It's sunny and hot with a lovely breeze in tropical North Yorkshire 😎

I'm working from home today and logged on early to get ahead of the game so I can spend the afternoon in the garden. Teenagers are doing my head in as they won't leave their rooms so I've decided to leave them to it today and I've put a bottle of wine in the fridge for later Wink

Happy Friday everyone Wine

Scruffyoak · 07/08/2020 13:04

working. :( its so hot I could cry...and I dont sleep as too hot.

midsomermurderess · 07/08/2020 13:05

no heat where I am in Scotland. It's been about 17 degrees for days, and very wet.

ginghamtablecloths · 07/08/2020 13:07

I'm doing as little as possible. This heat is too much for me.

AlternativePerspective · 07/08/2020 13:11

I’m currently sitting in front of the fan which DS has made sure is well adjusted enough so the dog can also enjoy it. Grin.

I have a heart condition which means I have a fluid restriction of just 1500 ml, so keeping hydrated if I get to hot is potentially an issue, so am staying firmly inside.

Now if only I had a pool....

bigbluebus · 07/08/2020 13:32

Went to the gym at 8.15. It was already 22c and they're not allowed to put the aircon on because of covid - although all the doors and windows were open. Still a warm workout though. It has been quite dull here this morning so i pottered in the garden then came in for lunch. Just as my washing machine beeped it started raining! Only lasted 10 mins though and now the sun has come out so I'm sitting in the garden although I'll need to move shortly as it's too hot.

MrsH497 · 07/08/2020 13:35

Trying to keep my 12 week old cool and comfortable which isn't proving easy at all.

Beekeeper1 · 07/08/2020 13:38

Praying for rain and a return to comfortable temperatures of 18-20 degrees. We have had no rain for weeks, the land is parched and arid, desperately in need of a few days of good, steady rain. For those of us who work outside, doing a manual job, the intense heat is vile!

Bloodybridget · 07/08/2020 13:42

Had breakfast in the garden before 8, pottered around doing housey things for an hour or so, drove to a friend's to drop something off, had v short walk in local park, long coffee with another friend in a cafe garden, now home having lunch in kitchen as it's too hot outside. Am going to stay in sorting out papers this afternoon, probably nap at some point (as sleep at night not really happening for me these days), make supper for us and another couple for this evening. Hope it will have cooled down enough to eat outside!
