So what are you up to in today's heat?

It's going to be 35 degrees here by midday apparently (East of England) and I can't decide what to do. I've had all week off work and haven't achieved a lot... So far I've done yoga and had breakfast!

What is everyone up to - embracing or hiding from the heat?!

We’ve had our last full day on our holiday at Grandma’s.

Today we had walkies with the dog at 8am before it was hot, but it was fairly coolish here until about 10am. We’ve mainly had a day in the garden and my sons been in and out of the paddling pool. We’re going to a pick your own farm first thing tomorrow before heading home.

My boyfriend moved into a rehab unit as its been a week since his surgery, so he video called us at lunch. As the usual places are being used for covid hes in a really posh hotel, not only is it lovely it has aircon, aircon he doesn’t even need to use as the evenings are lovely and cool in Stockholm. Bastard.

I managed to successfully drag DC away from screens twice despite DH failing to put the paddling pool up (he thinks it's ruined because he never put it away after we last used it weeks/ months ago). They went out in the back garden in the morning and found a surprising tolerant snail to adopt as a pet (I expected the snail to hide in its shell when DC wanted to go near it, but it slithered on their hands, crawled around in a box of grass etc) that kept them occupied for a while. They drew a beach for it with chalk on the path! I persuaded them to let it go after lunch. Then we went to paddle in the river in the local park. This kept them outside enjoying themselves for a couple of hours, splashing water over each other and me.
It is still ridiculously hot in the house. I just sat out in the garden for a bit where it is a tolerable temperature. There are occasional flashes of lightning but no storm yet.

How's everyone getting on? It's hideous here, 27 degrees still at 9pm Shock can't wait for the thunderstorms on Thursday! Tomorrow's plan is a play at the river first thing, hide indoors on screens, then evening beach trip.

I've been sat on my fat ass all day - 37 weeks pregnant and feeling it! Briefly moved from the sofa to a garden chair for a short spell earlier in the afternoon. DH now making a salad and leftover frittata.

@Aragog that sounds a lovely day, glad so many could pay their respects this time.

I've had a lovely day today with watching the sunrise then a swim in the sea, sorting out my garden finally, and now sat reading my book (just finished it). It's a lot cooler now but I actually enjoyed the heat yesterday despite not normally being a hot weather fan!

Hope all enjoyed a lovely couple of days

Sitting in the garden reading, with occasional trips down the path to pick more fruit off the trees and bushes. No fresher snacking exists. Grin

Thank you stickman and others.

It was lovely actually - although obviously a sad event it was very much in keeping with my nana to not want everyone sat around upset in black mourning clothes. We wore bright colours, floral patterns, summer dresses and shirts and afterwards we reminisced about past happy times. And because it was nice weather it meant some of those who couldn't come in to the crematorium, such as partners of grandchildren and friends, could stand outside in the sunshine and listen to the words and the service as it took place. And it was nice to have so many more people attend. The first funeral was dh's dad and that was when it was only 10. The second was my other nana and we couldn't fit in the restricted numbers so attended via video. Just not quite the same.

Today it's a bit cooler so I'm sat in the garden enjoying the peace and quiet in the sun. Bil and nieces are coming later with mil for a bbq and catch up. I'd love a cold gin and tonic but can't drink at the moment as taking oramorph as a pain killer - grrr! I'm assuming it's no alcohol with it. Best be nice weather next weekend when I should be pain free again.

My house is very old with thick walls so it's very cool - I'm taking refuge inside! Off to Cornwall tomorrow so I'll enjoy the sunshine then instead.

We are thoroughly gorged on ice cream and practically had to waddle home. A proper dinner is looking vanishingly unlikely and we'll probably just have a couple of sandwiches or something later.

Properly clouded over here now so is unpleasantly humid and muggy. Going to spend the rest of the day hiding inside with the blinds closed and the windows open in the hope of a breath of air.

It’s 36 where I am in London, and just arrived at an outdoor lido. Can’t wait to jump in!

@Strawberrycreamsundae you are near me. Muggy and humid and rainy.

I've given up on work for the day and am lying in my bedroom hiding for everyone else feeling sweaty.

@FrontToBackTree

I generally love Wales too, but stuck on a farmers field, no facilities (and I mean none!) so the only attraction is the nearby beach, is great in sunshine - not so nice in the fog and worse when the rest of the country is having a heatwave!

I normally can cope with a long weekend for family harmony (DH has to return annually, usually when PIL here) but this year it has become our main holiday, for obvs reasons!

It’s clouded over here near Bath but still horribly muggy. I’m sitting inside with the fan on trying to cool down. Like AlternativePerspective I have a heart condition (heart failure), restricted fluids and need to stay out of the sun. Add being very short of breath to that and it’s hard work at the moment 🙄
DH is mowing the lawn, the heat/humidity doesn’t bother him at all luckily!

DH and I just wolfed down some ice cream whilst sitting in front of a fan. Might be doing the same later with wine.

36 degrees here. One foot in a paddling pool. Due to boil myself to death doing a BBQ in a shadeless South facing garden. Aircon in my bedroom upstairs was on at 10 am and the temperature has gone up!

Fed up a bit of the smell of fumes from all the boy racers exhausts!

We lent a car, drove the accumulated stuff (20 years of old matresses, defect screens, unworkable chairs etc. ) to the recycling, drove by IKEA, got DD and DS furniture, drove back home, brought them up to the fifth floor by stair and now I'm preparing to assemble the lot, before I give the now 'de-rubbished' flat a clean.
Before I start, we'll go and have sth to eat.

I have set up camp in the garden.
The top of the garden is 34°.

It’s still warm down here, but not so bad.

So what are you up to in today's heat?

FrontToBackTree

I’ll do you a swap. We on holiday in W Wales, it’s a pea souper and 16 degrees, fog forecast all night. Maybe some sun tomorrow.

DH & his family think this place is best thing since sliced bread and don’t understand why I want to go home for some sun.
