Thatsucks,@NowYouListenToMeFella, and I think it will apply to many who can't work from home during the quarantine period. Especially tough if your "non-essential" trip is to see family. Where's the right to a family life?

I work for the NHS. We're being encouraged to take our annual leave for the good of our mental health. By God was I ready for the break I had recently, but it did nothing for my mental health because of not being able to go anywhere or visit anyone.

RubberDinghyRapids · 16/07/2020 14:54

I'm not brave enough to ask this elsewhere on MN so hoping someone else (who is also brave enough to read/watch the news) can help....

Have they said what the parameters are for ending distancing/masks/etc? I thought the point of a "clear roadmap" was that we'd all understand the plan. So masks in shops until rates are at such and such level, so we know what we're working towards.

PinkFondantFancy · 16/07/2020 14:58

@RubberDinghyRapids wanksock said for the 'forseeable'. I guess each person's interpretation of that will depend on their personal optimism levels....

@TheOrchidKiller the popsock story had made my day. Covid lives in foot sweat, who knew?!

PinkFondantFancy · 16/07/2020 14:59

I guess depending on how they want to spin it come winter it'll either be completely rampant when all flu gets bucketed as Rona, or it'll be totally eliminated as it'll all just be flu deaths.

TheOrchidKiller · 16/07/2020 15:00

@RubberDinghyRapids

I don't have a scooby-do, & I suspect that neither do they.

I really need to get off my bum and go out for a bit now. But you have all made me feel a bit less mardy this afternoon, you lovely lot.

ButterMeCrumpets · 16/07/2020 15:00

Having a slight rage here. I work in the Irish equivalent of the NHS. Memo has come out saying that if we undertake non essential travel we have to take an extra two weeks unpaid or paid leave to cover the 14 days self isolation.

Not allowed to work from home for it. I am working from home since early March. Trip to my sister looking less and less likely.

Ummm can they enforce that if you are working from home anyway? Bonkers AngrySad.

RubberDinghyRapids · 16/07/2020 15:01

Eurgh.... who tries on shoes in a shop with bare feet anyway? Envy

There's definitely some measures I'm keen to be kept on from this. Higher levels of handwashing and lower levels of traffic obviously, but yeah. Feet should be in socks unless you own that shoe.

RubberDinghyRapids · 16/07/2020 15:04

Thanks - I think that's what makes me rage the most. The uncertainty.... it's what I struggled with the most. If you gave us some stats to work towards then I don't mind that at all, but it all just seems to be made up as they go along (yes I know it's unfuckingprecedented times). I worry they'll paint themselves into a corner and won't know how to end it.... maybe it'll be like the one way system in Tesco and they'll just change the signs overnight all breezily Grin

pearlypidge · 16/07/2020 15:05

Re: the normalisation of masks. I really hate the way there are suddenly lots of retailers selling face masks in matching fabrics to their clothes, and all the fashion magazines/websites/blogs are talking about coordinating masks to your outfit.

No no no no no! you are just trying to make masks acceptable and normal and I'm sorry, I'm not having it - this cannot and should not be normal for evermore and I would much prefer masks to be as obviously abnormal as possible, thank you very much.

Shodan · 16/07/2020 15:08

I’m sure I’ve heard on here at least once that the Irish are happy and compliant mask-wearers (compared to us stupid irresponsible Brits, of course)

Tsk, @Mrsfrumble! Don't you know that the English are the only people in the WORLD who are 'whinging' about wearing masks?

PinkFondantFancy · 16/07/2020 15:08

@RubberDinghyRapids exactly - the sign should just say "popsocks because it's just the right thing to do, you mingers". But maybe "because covid" is the way to get people to be not disgusting anymore, like wash their hands and not sneeze in people's face, and not put their foot sweat in other people's shoes

RubberDinghyRapids · 16/07/2020 15:10

@PinkFondantFancy "Mingers" has been an underused word in the government communications IMO.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 16/07/2020 15:22

@Mrsfrumble

That’s interesting *@NowYouListenToMeFella*. I’m sure I’ve heard on here at least once that the Irish are happy and compliant mask-wearers (compared to us stupid irresponsible Brits, of course) 🤔 That’s dreadful expecting you to use leave for quarantine too.
Masks only mandatory on public transport here at the moment. As far as I have heard not everyone is wearing them. We'll see how it goes with the shops.

To be honest I haven't asked anyone else how the feel about masks in case they are a close dementor. I got shocked by a friend before and not taking the chance again 😂

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks my work memo is bonkers. I'd be going to the airport in disguise if I was to head off.

Allflightscancelled · 16/07/2020 16:37

Oh God. Apparently Wanksock is making an important announcement at 5pm.

This can't be good.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 16/07/2020 16:39

Fuckity balls. Wonder what shitty news Wanksock has for us now.

DominaShantotto · 16/07/2020 16:40

Oh god no. I can’t take any more.

KaronAVyrus · 16/07/2020 16:41

What shit of the day is he going to come out with now?

Allflightscancelled · 16/07/2020 16:42

Nor can I Domina

DominaShantotto · 16/07/2020 16:43

Could be a “vaccine doing amazing” one but they normally leak the shit out of anything before announcing it.

Local lockdowns?

Am having another panic attack now ffs

Allflightscancelled · 16/07/2020 16:44

People seem to think it may be about Leicester

Allflightscancelled · 16/07/2020 16:45

Sorry, Leicester people

DominaShantotto · 16/07/2020 16:45

@Allflightscancelled

People seem to think it may be about Leicester
Leicester definitely is hitting the end of its original time out in the naughty corner. Not sure that would be an urgent statement.
TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 16/07/2020 16:47

I have had a friend just today post about masks and how selfish people are if they don't wear them, and how a ventilator is much more uncomfortable. I am surprised about how angry I felt to read that. I support mask-wearing - I think they could well affect the spread of the virus if cases start increasing pretty rapidly over the winter. I am wearing a mask anywhere that bit more crowded, even though they're really uncomfortable. But really, all this sanctimonious judgement is so inappropriate. Honestly, if I had a really good reason why I couldn't wear one but I didn't want to disclose that to anyone, I'd be feeling so vulnerable right now with people being so vocal about how you're selfish if you don't wear one.

110APiccadilly · 16/07/2020 16:55

Hancock announcement is probably about this: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/16/uk-government-orders-halt-randox-covid-19-tests-over-safety-issues

110APiccadilly · 16/07/2020 16:56

There's news to make you really keen to take up a vaccine!
