Our school says all going back at same start time (8.20 quite early) wonder why they are different

justasking111 · 14/07/2020 17:05

Wow a lot of debbie downers on here today. Seems nothing can cheer you up. I have just read since midnight till now threads.

Honestly for our own sanity we need to stop worrying so much, masks, no masks, shopping, staying away from shops. I expect this winter to be a tough roller coaster with every sniffle causing a small panic in families until we become inured to it.

For now though in these moments we have just to try to enjoy what we have. The storm is going to hit us whether we fret or not.

Willow2017 · 14/07/2020 17:05

@Drivingdownthe101

Urgh. Just had an ‘altercation’ with a parish council member on Facebook on the subject of playgrounds. They’ve put an aggressive message up with their new ‘rules’, ending with ‘use it safely or lose it. We won’t hesitate to lock them up again’. I may have had a little rant.
Grrr idiots. Gov said to get them open do do it! No need for complicated rules. Kids are not superspreaders. There is no need for them stay apart. Ask him if he thinks talking to parents in that threatening snide way will benefit anyone or dies it just make him feel powerful?

It's absolutely mind boggling how many people are just loving the chance for power trips out of this.

justasking111 · 14/07/2020 17:08

Today I went over to Conwy with grand kids, an old lady was stood on the quay that I thought I recognised. I was right, she was around 40 odd years ago, she used to talk to my children, today she talked to my grand children. She is now 91 looks twenty years younger. I asked her how she does it. Her secret, is to get out every day and talk to the locals in town. An amazing lady.

DominaShantotto · 14/07/2020 17:26

Our schools are taking the "piss off if you've got problems and pay a fiver a day for breakfast club" approach.

BubbleIsSTILLNotAFuckingVerb · 14/07/2020 17:26

@justasking111 Love that you are admonishing people to cheer up and then helpfully end with "The storm is going to hit us whether we fret or not."

Thanks for that GrinI feel so much better now Grin

ButterMeCrumpets · 14/07/2020 17:31

I have just got back from a lovely meal in a restaurant. Apart from being quiet and the servers in plastic face shields it was normal and was so much nicer than another home made meal,

BarkandCheese · 14/07/2020 17:49

My sister posted this on the family WhatsApp group. Mandatory testing for her area Angry. God bless my family, they were all shouting about human rights and body autonomy within minutes. My sister is going to have the test because she wants out of lockdown ASAP, which is fair enough, but it makes me worry about mandatory vaccinations. And I’m as pro vaccine as they come, but not mandatory vaccinations.

Funnily enough all this kicked off while DD and I were watching The Trueman Show. I’ve always just seen that film for what it is before, but I suddenly realised it’s an allegory for government control and how much freedom we really ever have over our lives.

Argh I am so sick of sanctimonious, virtue-signalling twats in the travel group I frequent on FB!!

Picture the scene: the stage is dark and silent, before a lone spotlight illuminates the hero as they clear their throat, put their palm flat to their chest, and outstretch their other arm to the crowd, before proclaiming, Shakespearean-style, “ I shall be staying at home this year, to protect the people of Greece!” Followed by the reasons why anyone considering a holiday is the plague-ridden spawn of Satan. Poster then awaits giving of medals.

Are people really so desperate for the approval of strangers?! That being a rhetorical question of course...

Really boiled my piss today it has.

Spudlet · 14/07/2020 17:57

Just had an email from the school. Apparently, DSs class (reception) will be expected to line up by the railings and ‘walk sensibly’ through the building to their classroom. No parents allowed onto the playground.

I just can’t see DS managing that for a while... 😬 Hopefully his class teacher will be a little more sympathetic than the head is sounding from that letter!

😝😝😝 Vomit inducing claptrap. Do they think that anyone in Greece gives two about them? Plenty more will go.
BarkandCheese · 14/07/2020 18:09

I bet the people of Greece who run hotels, bars, restaurants and other businesses which depend on the tourist trade would rather not be “protected”.

Willow2017 · 14/07/2020 18:12

Todays Scottish Government corona virus statistics.

The facts: Zero deaths 6 days in a row.
2 patients in ITU with confirmed Covid-19
3 positive swabs
327 confirmed

The spin:
We are we told that there are "12 confirmed and suspected" cases in ITU. Why?
In particular why each day are we told there are "616 confirmed and suspected cases in hospital". Why?
Where do the mysterious 300 or so suspected patients in hospital appear from each day, when positive swabs have been running at an average 7.4/day for the last 2 weeks?

More interesting still - where do the mysterious 300 disappear to the following day?

3 positive swabs - is an increase of a mere 0.16% in case numbers and as a proportion of swabs today positives it was 0.06% of 4911 and as a proportion of individuals, 2121 0.14%
It is patently obvious we are being taken for fools to promote fear and control. It is high time Scottish Government were called out on this shameful and clearly deliberate manipulation of data.

Why are we allowing this shit? Where is the opposition? Why arent they questioning this?

Willow2017 · 14/07/2020 18:13

Fecking bold fail!

TheOrchidKiller · 14/07/2020 18:15

Worldgonecrazy Radio 1 also promoting the mask wearing agenda. Breakfast DJ telling a story about someone looking at him for wearing a mask and was all like ‘I’m not wearing it for me I’m wearing it for you’ in that annoying whiny voice that is now the fashion for DJs.

Oh God, I heard that as I was driving into work. It was Scott Mills, I think. I shouted where I thought he should go with his patronising banter.

It is a Radio 1 DJ's job to play music and lark about a bit, not tell us what to do.

Back to Radio 3 for me.

Supermarketworker06 · 14/07/2020 18:31

Loving your suggestions everyone, keep them coming!

I've mastered the art of sweetly saying "have a LOVELY day", whilst my expression says fuck off somewhere else you arsehole! I shall practice several of them and think of you all when inevitably I have to use them. I will report back!

Gwenhwyfar · 14/07/2020 18:39

"Yeah covid is fucking brilliant for the environment. "

Many months with little to no flying, much less car use. Yes, it is good for the environment.
Obviously the hygiene aspect, not so much, but health comes first at the moment.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 14/07/2020 18:39

One of the more pro-active heads of year has sent out information and it looks like the secondary will be operating along normal lines - uniform, same school day times no staggered starts.

Not sure if the lessons will be moving around school and normal but from Welsh Government announcements seem Y10/11 child's should be.

Plus they do seem to be setting actual work for the summer - not dreaded filler work like we feared.

New mattress has arrived for DD1 and she did put it upstairs and has managed a few words to us and begrudingly ate like she was doing me a favour food I had prepared.

Neck gaitor with replacable carbon filter also arrived - not so keen on it I'd somehow forgotten how much I dislike things around my neck- DS likes it though.

So many excellent points made on here.

Feature on local BBC News now on TV about businesses in Leicester that haven't survived the local lockdown. So, so sad. DH has turned it over.

Discussion with DS (yr 12) who had no idea term ends next week. I apologised for not having booked any holiday this summer. He loves a holiday but just shrugged & said, "Not much point. I'll have work to do anyway."

Oldest, young-adult-but-still-having-to-live-at-home DC was out socialising with a couple of friends yesterday. It was a very long drinking session in their garden, but as she hasn't had a drink for months, I've been nursing her through the hangover from hell. I don't mind, it's been a welcome distraction. Young people should be going out & enjoying themselves.

DominaShantotto · 14/07/2020 19:02

I usually watch the local news - haven't been since Leicester was locked down... I just can't face it.

Uni mandating face coverings on certain areas of campus next year. Have emailed disability services asking for clarification on exempt people - because I don't think I can cope with it - my panic attacks and anxiety are intolerably bad now - to the point I was doing the school queue of doom with headphones on low - which I only ever really need to fall back on doing when I'm really really bad.

Bollss · 14/07/2020 19:03

Jesus Christ on a bike I go and get a bloody job and you're 12 pages into a new thread without me.

Anyway, pleased to report new work colleagues all lovely and not dementory at all.

School ds will attend has had one case (no idea whether child or adult) and they have. Not. Shut. They've merely closed the bubble. Well done to them. Very pleased about that.

Pissed about masks though.

Do feel like I might never get my life back though if you know what I mean. Like what's to stop them keeping this shit forever?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/07/2020 19:06

Genie! Lovely to see you.

Do feel like I might never get my life back though if you know what I mean. Like what's to stop them keeping this shit forever?

I feel exactly like that. I keep thinking back to March when it was all to "flatten the curve" and I thought we'd pretty much be back to normal by May. I'm so miserable.

Mascotte · 14/07/2020 19:08
