Someone is turning on our outside tap

I think someone is coming into our back garden. Today and Sunday morning , the garden tap has been turned on and the hose adaptor pulled off so it is spraying on the floor until we notice.
On Sunday I thought that we had left it turned on (with the hose attached we wouldn't know ) as the hose and adaptor were on the floor nearby and maybe the pressure made it come off. But its happened again and I know for sure we have not turned the tap on, and the adaptor seems to be missing.

What's going on?! We have had a new fence and gate recently so it is high and sturdy. The only other way someone could get in is via next doors garden, then climbing on things to get over that lower fence Confused

We have known of 2 occasions in the past (we have lived here a year) where someone has 100% been in the garden because the plastic shed lid was left up. But we had our old rickety fence and broken gate back then. Someone kicked it in we think as it was hanging off anyway so we had no gate for a couple of weeks. We haven't had that problem since getting the new fence up as they wouldn't be able to get in now. (There was a footprint on the gate when we first had it put up, so some one tried to kick it down, but had nothing of the sort for a few months.
We also put up security lights In that area.
Next step, we will get a camera! Why would someone do this?

Are the cameras visible, OP? Can you reposition them so that whoever it is will think they’re not there anymore?

SpookyNoise · 21/07/2020 12:00

It’s still a mystery.

lurkingattheback · 21/07/2020 12:39

I can imagine the webcams being online and everyone constantly watching them, like the ones of Ospreys or traffic!

MiddleClassProblem · 23/07/2020 17:23

Still nothing?

SpacePug · 23/07/2020 18:04

Still nothing! Literally the only people who knew about the cameras is our family members and the next door neighbours on both sides as we told them 🤔 it's weird, I thought for sure it would happen again. The cameras aren't very visible as quite high up, but we did put a small 'cctv in progress' or something sign on the gate. But if they came over by next doors garden as I suspected they wouldn't see it anyway

Who are your neighbours on the other side? We know one is sweet old lady.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 23/07/2020 18:08

In hindsight you shouldn’t have told anyone about the cameras! I guess it solved your problem in a way but now it looks like you’ll never know who it was.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 23/07/2020 18:08

It's got to be one of your neighbours!

EatsShootsAndRuns · 23/07/2020 19:30

Why? Hmm

fastnfurious · 23/07/2020 20:16

You need to move the camera and tell everyone it wasn’t working so you took it down... don’t tell anyone that you’re still recording

fastnfurious · 23/07/2020 20:18

Also take the CCTV sign down. Why would anyone put up covert cameras To catch someone/something in the act and then tell everyone Close by about them 🤷‍♀️ the fact it hasn’t happened since means it’s most likely someone you’ve told

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 23/07/2020 21:09

Yeah you need to tell them have given up looking for the culprit and then hopefully they will strike again.

Gulsink · 23/07/2020 21:48

The "sweet little old lady" leaves you rhubarb and tomatoes in return for all the water she's been using to grow them! She even tried to kick your fence down! The cow.

hellsbellsmelons · 24/07/2020 08:27

@fastnfurious - because it's the law I'm afraid.
If you have CCTV to have to put signs up to alert people to this.
It's bloody ridiculous, but there it is!

SpacePug · 24/07/2020 09:20

Yeah we put a sign up because you can't record people without permission apparently. Basically mentioned it to the neighbors to see if they had anything similar going on/ knew about the previous owner who might have had people hold grudges against him or whatever.
The neighbors on the other side are a family, parents and 2 kids. The kids are maybe 10-13 kind of age I think but we don't speak to them much, my DH chats and had a beer with the man over the fence once or twice that's about it.
They hadn't noticed anything going on just said they heard running water early one morning which would have been our tap.
The old lady said the previous owner wasn't a nice man (which we'd heard from someone else) so we thought maybe someone winding him up not knowing he'd moved. Despite the for sale sign up for months/sold sign/ different car on the drive etc etc surely they would know he's not here anymore. I don't think this can be the case now though since they've not been back. We're away for a night tonight, so no car on the drive so will see if anything happens

Plenty of people have Tong doorbells arou d here and no cctv signs. Actually I’d think it would make more sense at the front of the property but in own back garden?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 24/07/2020 20:18

Tong -Ring

rslsys · 24/07/2020 22:21

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

It's got to be one of your neighbours!
Or a family member!
SpookyNoise · 26/07/2020 21:38

I don’t know if I’m happy for you that it seems to have stopped, or if I’m disappointed at the lack of a cunning animal.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 27/07/2020 09:26

See, I know I'm disappointed... I think that makes me a bad person!

daisychain1620 · 27/07/2020 09:41

I was hoping for something, obviously not creepy or dangerous, but like some tap dancing fox (see what I did thereWink) or something interesting!
OP keep us informed if there are any changes, I've loved this thread!

Lightofthephoenix · 27/07/2020 23:16

@SpacePug Did anything happen while you were away?

SpacePug · 28/07/2020 10:38

Still nothing. Honestly I am relieved, I would be creeped out if there was a strange man in our garden on a night so I am glad that it's not happened again. Though for the sake of the thread I wish I had a more exciting update 😂

OP posts:
SpacePug · 28/07/2020 10:40

Do threads dissapear on Chat after so long? If there's ever another instance even if it's in months or a year I'll come back and update 😂

daisychain1620 · 28/07/2020 10:58

Please do, this has been a great thread, thank you! I'm glad though that there hasn't been anything creepy happening!
