Someone is turning on our outside tap

I think someone is coming into our back garden. Today and Sunday morning , the garden tap has been turned on and the hose adaptor pulled off so it is spraying on the floor until we notice.
On Sunday I thought that we had left it turned on (with the hose attached we wouldn't know ) as the hose and adaptor were on the floor nearby and maybe the pressure made it come off. But its happened again and I know for sure we have not turned the tap on, and the adaptor seems to be missing.

What's going on?! We have had a new fence and gate recently so it is high and sturdy. The only other way someone could get in is via next doors garden, then climbing on things to get over that lower fence Confused

We have known of 2 occasions in the past (we have lived here a year) where someone has 100% been in the garden because the plastic shed lid was left up. But we had our old rickety fence and broken gate back then. Someone kicked it in we think as it was hanging off anyway so we had no gate for a couple of weeks. We haven't had that problem since getting the new fence up as they wouldn't be able to get in now. (There was a footprint on the gate when we first had it put up, so some one tried to kick it down, but had nothing of the sort for a few months.
We also put up security lights In that area.
Next step, we will get a camera! Why would someone do this?

Any news?

SpookyNoise · 16/07/2020 18:33

I guess we’ll never find out

Arthersleep · 16/07/2020 22:35

@SpookyNoise

That's my fear too. But I really need to know!

ChildOfTheNineties · 17/07/2020 09:42

So......who (or what) has been turning on the tap?

fastnfurious · 17/07/2020 19:42

Hate it when the op doesn't come back... we may never know what's turning on the tap

MyFartWillGoOn · 17/07/2020 20:55

Not sure why people are continually asking the OP for an update or accusing her of not coming back.

She's come back several times and has updated that cameras have now been installed and the activity usually happens at the weekend.... this was last weekend so we eagerly wait to see if it happens again.

Take a chill pill vipers...

Indeed. It's obvious that the family of foxes with opposable thumbs saw the CCTV going up, realised they were about to be rumbled, and staged a swift counter attack. Op and family were caught unawares, perhaps lulled into a false sense of security by the cute baby foxes, cudgled over the heads by the weapon-wielding, opposable-thumbed fox parents, and woke several hours later to find themselves bound and gagged in their own basement, listening to the Fox family cavorting in their fully brimmed (from the outside tap) paddling pool.

Happens all the time. Foxy bastards.

MrsVMorgan · 18/07/2020 09:28

QOD · 18/07/2020 10:31

Gulsink · 18/07/2020 15:33

I think it will happen tonight, I can feel it my bones. That horse can't resist much longer. Then... BAM!!!, horse superglued to your house. That'll teach him.

BrunetteBuns · 18/07/2020 15:44

What did the cameras show? Has the phantom tap turner been revealed?

summerfish · 18/07/2020 16:47

This is the Victorian safe all over again, isn't it?

daisychain1620 · 18/07/2020 17:53

Whats the story with the Victorian safe?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 18/07/2020 17:58

Oh god, don't mention the Victorian safe!

daisychain1620 · 18/07/2020 18:02

Aww you have to tell me now! I'm reasonably new to Mumsnet and missed this, v intrigued!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 18/07/2020 18:03

I don't feel right inflicting it on you, daisy, what with you being a newbie an' all!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2020 18:04

I just cracked up at the Wombles. Best theory yet! Grin

MadamFlutterby · 18/07/2020 18:17

Definitely a Womble. My bet is Orinoco

Achangeagain1 · 18/07/2020 18:32

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar @MadamFlutterby they’re a scourge on SW London - am sure most bicycle thefts are down to them. The locals keep is quiet as they don’t want property prices to fall Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2020 18:55

OK, Victorian safe story as I remember it (which isn't necessarily as it actually happened).

Person finds locked Victorian safe. Everyone wonders what could be inside it. Finder tries to find someone to open it.

Time passes, safe still locked.

More time passes, safe still locked.

More time passes, ice ages come and go, mountains form and crumble.

More time passes, the Earth's tectonic plates move to form new continents.

The safe is finally opened. It's empty.
