Someone is turning on our outside tap

I think someone is coming into our back garden. Today and Sunday morning , the garden tap has been turned on and the hose adaptor pulled off so it is spraying on the floor until we notice.
On Sunday I thought that we had left it turned on (with the hose attached we wouldn't know ) as the hose and adaptor were on the floor nearby and maybe the pressure made it come off. But its happened again and I know for sure we have not turned the tap on, and the adaptor seems to be missing.

What's going on?! We have had a new fence and gate recently so it is high and sturdy. The only other way someone could get in is via next doors garden, then climbing on things to get over that lower fence Confused

We have known of 2 occasions in the past (we have lived here a year) where someone has 100% been in the garden because the plastic shed lid was left up. But we had our old rickety fence and broken gate back then. Someone kicked it in we think as it was hanging off anyway so we had no gate for a couple of weeks. We haven't had that problem since getting the new fence up as they wouldn't be able to get in now. (There was a footprint on the gate when we first had it put up, so some one tried to kick it down, but had nothing of the sort for a few months.
We also put up security lights In that area.
Next step, we will get a camera! Why would someone do this?

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar that is so funny! Thank you for filling me in. I can imagine the suspense 😂

WhoLettheCatOut · 19/07/2020 12:08

Do we think the tap just hasn't been switched back on again or has OP been abducted by a fox with opposable thumbs in need of a drink?

daisychain1620 · 19/07/2020 18:30

Maybe the original message was in fact typed out by the fox with opposable thumbs who found a mobile phone in the garden when he crept in to use the tap to take a quick drink and wash his fluffy armpits? He's chuckling to himself now as he's fooled us all and the mobile phone owner wonders why they're getting notifications from Mumsnet about a tap

rslsys · 19/07/2020 19:15

The fox was really pleased to get a replacement mobile phone. He lost his last one in the garden of a remote house a few weeks ago when the house holder found it and then posted about it on here, wondering where it had come from. . .

@rslsys is this in reference to yet another intriguing thread I am not aware of?
I love Mumsnet Grin

Oh I had totally forgotten about that thread!! Was there an outcome?!
daisychain1620 · 19/07/2020 20:47

Please someone fill me in about the phone😘
Do you think his ring tone is 'what does the fox say - Ning Ning Ning Ning Ning Ning Ning'?

Tillygetsit · 20/07/2020 02:04

I come back to this thread every day hoping for an update. What a saddo I am.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 20/07/2020 02:33

If I knew where OP lived I'd go and turn the tap on myself - at least then I would know who did it. (P. S. I am not à fox)

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 20/07/2020 02:43

Just spent the last hour reading this. I'm totally over invested now. What happened op!?!?!?

Arthersleep · 20/07/2020 08:25

@WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat

Yes, but are you homeless and thirsty?

That's exactly what a fox would say...
YesIDoLoveCrisps · 20/07/2020 08:40

You need to watch the Home Alone movies for some tips on how to catch the hose users.

SpacePug · 20/07/2020 11:25

Update! Nothing has happened since putting up the cameras.

So week 1 tap turned on weds and sun
Week 2 tap turned on sat
Week 3 - nothing!
Week 4- today is Monday see if anything happens this week.

My mum thought maybe it's a neighbor who saw us doing the cameras and so has now stopped messing. But why? Plus i think the only neighbour that saw was the sweet old lady next door.

The only wildlife captured has been a hedgehog, a cat, and loads of annoying moths which fly close to the camera and trigger an alert

Do you have any neighbours at the back? Seems weird that it has stopped now cameras are installed.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 20/07/2020 11:43

Sweet old lady you say... Grin

SpacePug · 20/07/2020 11:50

At the back there's a walkway bit with grass either side and a path so no houses

She leaves us rhubarb and tomato plants by the gate. We did tell her before putting up the cameras. I'd be amazed if she could climb that fence Grin

Well, it's got to be a part time window cleaning fox then! It's the only possible answer. He's taking s holiday right now.

ItsNotAGameOfSubbuteoMatthew · 20/07/2020 16:48

Glad you've got cameras to update the MN Massive Grin My burning question would be W H Y??

Spudlet · 20/07/2020 17:16

I reckon the window cleaning foxes are in league with the little old lady. The tomatoes are a cover... she’s their front-woman!

Jinglebellissimo · 20/07/2020 17:17

Has no one blamed badgers yet?
