@ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson

We've decided to have a couple of nights in a seriously posh hotel in DD's summer holidays (ha! could have it in term time for all the education her school is giving her), so we've got something to look forward to as well. We thought about self-catering somewhere in the UK, but had visions of all the restaurants and attractions being closed (or open but miserable) and the locals greeting us with pitchforks, and decided we're going to have a couple of nights somewhere that will actually pretend to be pleased to see us. Toying with either Le Manoir Aux Quatr' Saisons or Chewton Glen.
I have just booked a night in Le Manoir!

Ha! We need a secret anti-dementor wave.

ILoveTotoro · 28/06/2020 18:31

Hi everyone and thank you for the new thread

I have been freaking out this afternoon as I live in Leicestershire and I am desperately worried about the talk of a local lockdown

I swear if it happens I will not cope

ILoveTotoro · 28/06/2020 18:31

Are there any other leics dwellers on here??

CruCru · 28/06/2020 18:32

I’d love to go to the Faroe Islands.
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/06/2020 18:35

dowser until about a month ago I needed a proper garden with soul to fulfil my gardening fantasies. Alas, all I’ve nurtured are slugs and disappointment instead. Give me a yard and miles of sand thank you!

I’ve been looking at coastal houses and the thing which really puts me off is the “great air bnb” opportunity which instantly makes me think “ugh, surrounded by party animals in short breaks” rather than community-led village.

I am Leicestershire but quite far out from the city centre so hoping it doesn’t get this far!

What's the wand movement for expecto patronum? If I swish and flick the wrong way, I might make things levitate Grin

Is it still Sunday? Today is being interminable. I've just had a doze on the sofa which at least refreshed my phones battery rather than me. I need to psych myself up to peel some spuds. Red Bull consumed to try and kick me into action.

I'm going to the zoo on Wednesday.
I'm going to the zoo on Wednesday.

The nearby childrens farm/ ice cream parlour reopens on the 4th. We can combine that with a bloody walk there and back as another way to pass and afternoon.

I really need a plan to shake myself out of inertia for July. I am just existing with no mojo and there will be no external improvement until the DCs are back at school. I'm awful at self-imposed routine with no external motovation. I do wonder if there is something like dyspraxia going on. There's such a strong family history that has emerged in adulthood, organisation is not natural to me and I was horrific at sport at school.

CruCru · 28/06/2020 18:42

@Willow2017

I’m wondering if people who live near beaches have had a better lockdown..as in more things open..like ice cream, coffees, takeaways, fish and chips like ours have Not where I am. Every sodding thing was shut down even for takeaway. Still all shut now. Boring as hell. Best thing we have now is an ice cream van going round. It's a popular tourist place in summer but small compared to the places in the news but still nothing at all for locals.
We’ve had lots of dementoring. People turned up in their boats and moored off the beach (because harbours are shut) which got people chuntering on. Plus there were quite a few things in the local paper about evil people being in their second homes )even if they turned up before lockdown).

No ice creams here. The local pub does takeaway but you have to take it away, not sit on the benches by the sea.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/06/2020 18:47

I really want to go camping somewhere other than my back garden. Late July, we should have been off on a giant Scouting/ Guide camp at Chatsworth for a week which got pulled about late April. It's every 5 years so not coming around again until 2025 as it doesn't fit with the cycles of other camps.

No toilet blocks is a problem. Camp toilets aren't great anyway, but given that my DCs struggle to aim accurately in a regular loo and come out with more shit than government guidelines for playgrounds, they sound like a really bad idea!

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

I’d like to see wee Nicky in her mask queuing outside B&M to buy shite just to give herself a break from the monotony.
Not sure I’m a wizard, but I had a crack at it.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 28/06/2020 18:58

😂 it is PERFECT!

I want to put it as my fb profile photo but I’d out myself.

bogroll it may have been a nap, but the year is now 2028. Everything is still shut. Stay safe!

@Drivingdownthe101

Yes I am quite far out as well. I live in a village not far from Hinckley / Nuneaton ...but I think there have been outbreaks there

I am dreading if it happens. Not only will it potentially stop me working ( I am self employed) if I can't go on holiday (its only uk) mid july I will be destroyed honestly its the one thing that's been keeping me going in this

BarkandCheese · 28/06/2020 19:00

Probably should have done a @InsaneInTheViralMembrane

I’m the other side, near the airport.
Apparently the R rate (fecking R rate) is back down over the past few days so I’m hoping it’s a fuss about nothing and it’s been contained. We’ll see.

Mascotte · 28/06/2020 19:09

@BarkandCheese and @InsaneInTheViralMembrane Brilliant 😂😂

May I use the pic on sm?

BarkandCheese · 28/06/2020 19:10

Feel free to use it any way you want.

justasking111 · 28/06/2020 19:11

We have loads of beaches here the council at the beginning if doable chained all access up with lots of signage no admittance, those that they could not ban us from the police patrolled. Where are you going, where are you from, why are you here. My friend lives just off the promenade, she would carry shopping bags and say she was off for bread, milk, and other essentials. Just writing this makes me realise how draconian it was. I was afraid of being stopped every time I went out, once a week.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 28/06/2020 19:12

@BarkandCheese could you photoshop the word 'my' off the bag? Wink

@BogRollBOGOF I'm so with you on the inertia, though I do at least get 3 days break a week when I'm at work and can feel useful and talk to people and not worry about social distance! (We're masked and so are patients, staff generally don't bother/forget).

My tent plan made me excited until DB said everywhere will be heaving (Devon and Cornwall fully booked apparently, not that I was planning to go that far).

@Dowser I've no idea where you are, but that sounds super cheap! I could probably afford a mortgage on a house at that price, rather than my £825 a month rent on our 3 bed (cheap for this area because it needs a new kitchen, bathroom, wiring... Nice 3 beds here to rent are £1200pcm+).

Mascotte · 28/06/2020 19:13

Thank you 😊

justasking111 · 28/06/2020 19:13

On March 6th I filled my car with petrol. The red light came on yesterday 56 miles left. So 115 days before I needed more fuel.

Willow2017 · 28/06/2020 19:13

Brilliant Barkandcheese 🤣
