This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

(Sorry about the feeble title)

Wales - I want to go shopping, I want my opticians to open, broken glasses, BUT I really have zero interest in cineworld re-opening. The thought of a room full of people for a couple of hours really does not do it for me. I will stand in a queue outdoors, fine, but cinemas, theatre, no I think that too soon.

Orangeblossom78 · 16/06/2020 13:56

In our city centre they have closed some of the roads to make it all pedestrianised which is quite nice, bit less pollution perhaps. It is bad for that normally. It is lovely not having big crowds of tourists too

SockYarn · 16/06/2020 13:57

Just googled out of interest. 50 accidental drownings in Scotland every year. It's fairly clear that water is not safe. All swimming pools should close immediately. Cordons placed around rivers, streams, ponds, lakes and reservoirs. Cone off the beaches.

Far, far too risky.

Orangeblossom78 · 16/06/2020 13:58

Deep fried mars bars, chippies, and off licences on every street can stay though Hmm

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 16/06/2020 14:01

but cinemas, theatre, no I think that too soon.

I seriously doubt that will be an time soon in Wales - but late summer it's possible.

Frankly most of the stuff we do in summer holidays won't be happening and I think no driving will mean we even if thing do open up we'll be stuck not being able to do.

Though orthodontist and dentist - I'd absolutely want open before nearly everything else.

Nihiloxica · 16/06/2020 14:02

We only need one adverb now, to describe one verb:

SADLY DIED Sad

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 14:03

Ooh, I'd love to go to the cinema: that's what I do with my dc, our thing

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 14:05

So, where are dementors getting the idea that cases are going up in England?

And how do you approach a conversation with a real life one who gets nippy with you?

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 14:06

So, where are dementors getting the idea that cases are going up in England?

Their grandma’s sister’s pet tortoise works in ICU and they’ve seen a huge rise in new admissions over the past few weeks.

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 14:08

As usual, it’s a misinterpretation of the data. They see a small rise in the daily number of ‘positive tests reported’, and don’t consider the fact that testing is also increasing considerably (proportionally, the number of positive tests is dropping steadily), and that the daily figures don’t always refer to positive tests from that day.

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 14:12

@Driving ah, yes, that could be it. We're all much safer in Scotland, obviously.

I was taken aback when I said they weren't and she snapped "Do you know better?!"

I wish I'd said yes 😃 Kustcsaid

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 14:13

Oops... dropped phone. But just said let's not discuss it.

Had to go for a browse round home bargains to recover and carry on my murderous ways.

Dowser · 16/06/2020 14:15

Wanted to go to health shop in middlesbrough. Dh said no it will be carnage
So messaged my friend, the one who has the alternative shop in Middlesbrough and she said, it’s deathly.
Now got grandson coming instead.
Me locked down for another day

Or we might go for a walk somewhere

Dowser · 16/06/2020 14:16

Me too..can’t remember the last thing we went to see even
No good asking dh
He won’t either.

Dowser · 16/06/2020 14:17

Oops forgot to say that was for mascotte re cinema

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 14:17

Actually I’ve just checked the daily numbers and I’m not sure why they’ve got the impression the number of cases is increasing. At worse, it’s stagnating. The ONS have also reported that there are approximate half as many new cases each day as there were a week or so ago, and the Zoe study has reached a similar conclusion.
So in short, I think they were talking bollocks.

AnxiousElephant77 · 16/06/2020 14:19

In an entirely unprecedented Wink move, Whitty has just tweeted that this steroid is the most significant trial result so far.

I nearly dropped my phone in shock at his attempt to be positive for a change.

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 14:19

I need to woman up and not get upset by this pish!

Laniakea · 16/06/2020 14:21

I was taken aback when I said they weren't and she snapped "Do you know better?!

^ "apparently so!" would be my response to that.

DrearyWallAntler · 16/06/2020 14:22

@AnxiousElephant77

He clearly isn't feeling well.

Book him a test!

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 14:24

That is great news about the drug

SomewhereEast · 16/06/2020 14:31

Yes the drug news is brilliant! I'm actually quite optimistic that the virus can be managed sustainably even without a vaccine through a combination of improvements in treatment, mass testing and moderate sustainable preventative measures (good hygiene for example). Obviously all this is much more achievable in the developed world though sadly

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 16/06/2020 14:31

Having a cheap drug that works on covid 19 is great news - I'm wondering how the dementors on here will be reacting.

Ibake · 16/06/2020 14:31

I am SO excited about this steroid announcement - and clearly markets are too as they all shot up just after the announcement!

It's such a great AD tool - quit your whining, we've got a steroid can sort that out pronto even if you did actually manage to catch it with current infection rates. Woohoo! This could be a game changer.

Ibake · 16/06/2020 14:32

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath they're going to HATE it!
