This'll be thread number 13, I think.

Let's hope it's a lucky one Grin

(Sorry about the feeble title)

Like a kind of perspex shoe horn? Interesting.

KaronAVyrus · 17/06/2020 15:48

Well done trappedsincesundaymorn 💪🏽

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 17/06/2020 15:54

trappedsincesundaymorn congratulations.

Teateaandmoretea · 17/06/2020 15:58

@Orangeblossom78 the guardians ridiculous dementing is just 🤦🏻‍♀️

It isn’t the time for fucking naval gazing, which tbh is annoying enough usually.

TuckMyWin · 17/06/2020 15:58

So, after all the dooming and glooming about test and trace not working because it's far too slow, I booked a test for my ds yesterday evening at 6.15pm when I realised he was running a temperature after school (it's tonsillitis - but he's running a fever, which is akin to painting a big red cross on your door now). Our local testing centre had an immediate appointment and it had been done by 7pm. And I got the results half an hour ago. Which really is quite an efficient turnaround.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 17/06/2020 16:03

Do like how the second guardian article claims not to begrudge people thinking things are looking up but manages to write an entire article suggesting these people are thick and reckless.

It does remind me of the whole brexit press - I'm right and morally superior coverage.

I voted remain as I thought status quo was better than unknown risks and dubious sketchy benefits promised.

Nihiloxica · 17/06/2020 16:06

Oh that's excellent TuckMy.

Well done, trapped!

Woohoo!

I seem to be myself again this week. I'm doing home school and getting work done. Last week was dark times. Not even sure what changed other than spending time with friends at the weekend.

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 17/06/2020 16:07

To be fair, if I had to go anywhere near children's feet, I would want a full face visor but it's got fuck all to do with coronavirus Grin

Yes fingers crossed for winter weddings and jobs and everything else

And also YY to the "but the war" etc posters. You see it all the time, someone posts something lighthearted about their cat and there is always one po faced fucker who turns up and just says "meanwhile in Syria..." It really enrages me as it's actually more insulting to people in terrible situations to use them as some sort of ladder for people to get to some moral high ground. IMO.

PickAChew · 17/06/2020 16:09

Ooh, weddings and job interviews! I've missed so much, today!

Nihiloxica · 17/06/2020 16:13

Children's feet are way less gross than adult feet.

How anyone manage to sustain a foot fetish is beyond me 👣🤢

AnxiousElephant77 · 17/06/2020 16:13

@farting sadly it does refer to my age Confused

Spudlet · 17/06/2020 16:15

Oh, the bloody Guardian can do one. I’m up to here with it.

That second writer has always been wringing wet though. She needs drip drying somewhere with a dehumidifier running.

NothingIsWrong · 17/06/2020 16:20

@AnxiousElephant77 you are the same age as me then as well :-) the wedding will happen. IT WILL

@trappedsincesundaymorn interview! Congrats! You will be awesome :-)

BarkandCheese · 17/06/2020 16:23

Well done Trapped!

This quote from that second article read annoyed me so that if there comes a point in the future when I am asked why we didn’t try to do more to protect people from deaths that were far from inevitable, I can point them to this and say, well, it was a complicated time .

What a pile of pretentious wank! Why would she be asked specifically about this? Is she imagining a future scenario where she’s some kind of guru sage with young people seated around her feet waiting to hear her words of wisdom?

Also while she’s talking about covid deaths, that sentiment could equally be applied to those who had vital other medical treatments delayed and cancelled, or indeed those lives which will be inevitably shortened by the coming recession.

Oh no, those deaths don’t count. Only Sadly Died ones.

Everyone else can do one. It’s only Sadly if it was Covid.

pollyhemlock · 17/06/2020 16:29

To be fair she has a seriously disabled brother. She has written very movingly about him. This may have affected her view of the situation.

Toilenstripes · 17/06/2020 16:30

What’s an anti dementor?

Spudlet · 17/06/2020 16:31

So do I. If he catches this thing, he will almost certainly die. That’s not me being a dementor - that’s looking at the facts in a clear-eyed way. A cold can send him to the ICU... of course I worry for him. Any sister would.

However, there is worry and then there is wallowing.

NannyPhlegm · 17/06/2020 16:31

Another 77er here! Best year ever Grin

Thread has moved on, but I'm interested by the comment upthread about divisive language.
Remember, the ones in charge are the same team that brought you the Leave campaign and its divisive language. I'm a Eurosceptic Remainer (if that isn't too much of an oxymoron) but the slogans thought up by the Leave side cut through society like a hot knife through butter. It pit friends and family against each other, and all hope of a sensible debate was lost. I'm seeing the same effect right now, even though they don't seem to realise it! I think they don't know the toxic power of their own catchy pithy slogans Hmm

Bobbythebulldog · 17/06/2020 16:32

Hey everyone.
Just found this thread and from now it’s the only one I’m reading any more on MN.
I come from a totally murderous household.
Myself,Dh and ds key workers and fuck all social distancing going on at any workplace.
I work nhs and only now 12 weeks in we’ve all got to wear face masks. Not deemed important enough before but now it’s essential?
Anyhow, on top of all that dd21 has decided she’s had enough and is now seeing a friend regularly (or more than one perhaps, I don’t know) and coming home to obviously try and kill everyone and I feel as guilty as hell.

So sick of everyone around being so bloody righteous and me feeling so shit and ashamed all the time.

Dowser · 17/06/2020 16:32

Having a lovely day at northallerton after this mornings tooth meltdown
Just had picnic lunch in the park
Kids have been playing on the open play park

Anti dementors are going to hit the shops. Who wants to come?
bakingcupcakes · 17/06/2020 16:32

Oh the guardian...I particularly liked 'we clapped 10 times and re-opened b&q' Grin If only we could do the same with the schools...

Orangeblossom78 · 17/06/2020 16:33

It't that things about learning to live with it vs thinking it needs to have gone away so can feel totally 'safe'. Yes people are able to make their own risk assessments, why is that so difficult to get your head around (the Guardian) maybe people are not so stupid as they seem to think.

Does it not seem reasonable for a young person in good health to think Ok, I might get this (hopefully not) but it will probably be OK. Seems sensible to me.

bakingcupcakes · 17/06/2020 16:33

@trappedsincesundaymorn Great news on the interview! Good luck on tuesday.
