anxious You mentioned previously where you live now, that is where I grew up, been up north almost 20 years though. (1st job after uni) Parents still there, last time I was down was Christmas, cos you know Covid. Hmm

Khione · 11/06/2020 20:48

@TheGreatWave

Nooooo... I'd ordered body bags from wowcher in anticipation

Good job it wasn't Wish. They would probably have a head and arm holes.

Funny, I was thinking it was a shame it wasn't Wish, you could have had them printed with a choice of skull and crossbones or the grim reaper from them. ☠☠☠ 💀💀💀
Nihiloxica · 11/06/2020 20:50

It can't just be my mum, though. There must be hundreds - thousands - of elderly and vulnerable people who've done exactly as they were told and are now lonely and excluded and frightened and all the things.

Yep. Sad

I know older people are at higher risk from Covid, but they are at higher risk from EVERYTHING. So isolating them was obviously going to have a disproportionate impact on them.

I know how worried you've been about her and I'm sick for you to find out that your worries were not misplaced. That GP who refused to see her though Angry

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 20:52

@TheGreatWave How about you visit my parents in the North and I’ll visit your parents in Solihull

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 11/06/2020 20:53

Cattermole, I’m so sorry for your Mum. It’s appalling Flowers

Dowser · 11/06/2020 20:57

Cor lickety
That email needs to go to the daily mail, piers Morgan And their supervisor

I see we are just troublesome ants who deserved to be crushed

I want blood for that, their head on a plate at least

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 11/06/2020 21:00

@GoldenOmber I know, I really shouldn’t read that sort of thing

I like your style though, might start to do that. School? school? Why they’ll never go back -there’s a pandemic don’t you know!!!! Grin

Dowser · 11/06/2020 21:04

Cattermole
That’s dreadful
Your mum has been let down hugely
I am so angry for you
Please don’t hurt yourself any more
Please
Don’t.

Nihiloxica · 11/06/2020 21:06

School? school? Why they’ll never go back -there’s a pandemic don’t you know!!!!

Yes, good.

We need to just give up on this generation.

When this is all over, we'll conceive new babies that can be educated according to the New Normal.

Current children can be their servants.

TheGreatWave · 11/06/2020 21:06

anxious sorted.

Gate-crashing Dowser first though.

Cattermole · 11/06/2020 21:07

I'm a bit calmer about it now. I have a plan, which is that we're going to start taking mum to all the exotic places like Heligan and Home Bargains and Aldi, and she's coming up to us for supper on Sunday and we might even take her to the farmer's market on Saturday.
Anyone who wants to say "she should be at home" will get punched in the throat.
HOPEFULLY, hopefully, if we walk the legs off her a bit at a time she might get some of her mobility back.

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 21:07

Dp has just accused me of getting 'caught up in my own hysteria'. So now I'm trying not to punch him.

Willow2017 · 11/06/2020 21:07

Cattermole
Thats so crap. Your poor mum. The fecking health service is for everyone not just the few. How many more vulnerable people are being abandoned in the name of covid?

My aunt is seriously concerned she is losing mobility due to being stuck indoors. She was taken out for a trip to a small garden centre for her birthday last week first time she has been out in months and was knackered when she got home. She is 91 but you wouldnt know it. Always out to pensioners clubs, craft clubs, etc. She said last night she is glad she has stairs at least its exercise! Its criminal. My cousin who gets her shopping is so petrified of infecting her she wont go near her indoors! She hasnt touched her in months. I want to go visit her as normal and go out for a mooch get lunch and sit in her house putting the world to rights over her hm coffee cake and scones. And hug her to her very bones. I cant even go sit in her garden as she lives an hours drive away. This madness has to end.

Dowser · 11/06/2020 21:09

All of you who’ve had a dry day / sunny day spare a thought for the poor buggers in the north (us) who’ve watch it chuck it down all day.

I even dgs a taxi as I couldn’t be bothered to get wet

Cattermole · 11/06/2020 21:10

Been piddling down here Dowser - had a month's worth in a day! My herbs are grateful though. (cats less so)

Dowser · 11/06/2020 21:10

Anxious elephant
Awww just punch him
He’ll soon learn 😂

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/06/2020 21:11

Bloody wet and miserable here!

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/06/2020 21:12

Cheeky fucker.

bakingcupcakes · 11/06/2020 21:15

@AnxiousElephant77

I'm at the 'eating cake over the sink' stage today.
I was at the eating ice cream out of the tub standing up stage around 6pm.
RubberDinghyRapids · 11/06/2020 21:15

@Cattermole and @RobinHobb Shit. Just utter shit. This is just heartbreaking to hear. Thanks

Bollss · 11/06/2020 21:17

Pissed it down all day here. Ventured to Aldi and had to pack my shopping at the car. Terrible bloody idea.

I bought two items from the random aisle of shite as well so I've probably wiped out a small village.

RubberDinghyRapids · 11/06/2020 21:17

Antibody test result text came through this afternoon..... lab unable to test the sample. Please arrange another test. Hmm occupational health lost the fucking paperwork then

heroku · 11/06/2020 21:24

Only just catching up now but @Cattermole and @RobinHobb that's terrible. What an absolute mess this all is.

Sorry to backtrack but I'm genuinely disturbed by the email a PP referred to from an MSP about "Our priority is keeping the population safe".

Where on earth has this kind of thinking come from? Why do we suddenly think it's completely normal for a government to keep its people locked inside and children away from school to "keep them safe" ?!

I don't want to be kept safe. I'm not a precious flower that needs to be wrapped in cotton wool. I snowboard and kite surf and motorbike around dangerous cities where I can barely speak the language. I want to take risks. I want to live my life fafucksakes.

bakingcupcakes · 11/06/2020 21:25

@RobinHobb That's awful about your friends daughter. This whole thing is a disgrace.

@Cattermole I'm so sorry about your mum. It's really very unfair and what's worse is she'll be one of many. My neighbour is in his nineties. Before this he was very active. In town every day. Walking to the local shop (not miles but takes me 15mins to get there) and since this he hasn't left his house. I've chatted to him in the garden and stuff but I'm really worried he won't have the confidence or physical ability to do everything he did before this started once it stops. It feels like we've got it wrong for a huge number of people.

@LivinLaVidaLoki I'm so pleased for you regarding work!

bakingcupcakes · 11/06/2020 21:26

@Nihiloxica I agree with your post regarding key worker jobs. All jobs are key now because the economy needs to get moving.
