Worry not @maxwell. Walked my hound with a friend and found my spring again.
@sirsamuel you have absolutely nailed it with your long term vulnerability post. I've copied and pasted it into the ever growing anti dementor folder on my phone!

pollyhemlock · 12/06/2020 12:23

That Independent article. Look, no one is saying she has to send her child back to school. But it is not the case that everything has to grind to a halt ‘to protect the vulnerable ‘.My DD3 is 29. She has a severe learning disability. Normally she goes to a day centre every day, but she has now been sitting at home basically doing f* all except watch Mr Tumble for 10 weeks. Some days I can get her out for a walk but that’s it. No indication of when day centre will reopen. She also has Type 1 Diabetes, which puts her a bit more at risk, but tbh I now reckon that it is a greater risk to her health and social skills to be sitting at home for much longer. Also the longer the economy is broken the less money there will be for Adult Social Care longterm . This really worries me. What price ‘the vulnerable ‘ then?

Ibake · 12/06/2020 12:29

@allflightscancelled. That article is excellent. It has also been pasted into my phone (at this rate am going to need to start paying 79p a month for more iCloud storage!)

Dowser · 12/06/2020 12:32

Here’s four of my well missed persians
(Red) Arthur with white Mitzi
And Harry at the back and Sophie at the front.
Apparently entire males go darker if they live outside. He was neutered and given to us, than the more house friendly ( ie don’t spray everywhere) female house cats

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 12/06/2020 12:36

Drove into Wales and out again to collect DD’s stuff. Was hoping to get through a patrolled border Thelma and Louise style, but no, was far too easy!
Love breaking the rules though, Im getting a reputation in my family now.
DD’s 20th today - we hid her presents around house just to drag it out a bit. Takeaway later with cocktails. This isn’t how my party loving girl should be celebrating entering her 20’s!
My other DD would have finished her A levels yesterday- so sad that she has nothing to look forward to.

Orangeblossom78 · 12/06/2020 12:37

About the age for face masks on transport, seems at 5 they would need to - it says here "It makes an exception for children under the age of two, who should not have their faces covered"

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/04/face-masks-to-be-made-compulsory-on-public-transport-in-england

On the 2m change, yes might be brought in for July when pubs and cafes meant to be allowed to open, perhaps.

Bollss · 12/06/2020 12:37

My dbs has arrived!! Less than a week!!

Going to ask for voluntary redundancy I think.....

Wish me luck anti dementors Grin

HauntedGoatFart · 12/06/2020 12:39

Thanks for that Spectator and BMJ articles. Thank god for someone to finally make the point that school and daily life have never been "safe", and staying at home isn't "safe" either for even the most well-resourced adults and children, so it needs to be ditched as a concept, much less something we are waiting for. And we need more analysis like the Spectator one, because I strongly suspect that outcome variation across countries is going to ultimately come down much more to population characteristics than lockdown or political policies.

Orangeblossom78 · 12/06/2020 12:39

I read the go had changed the guidance for vulnerable children recently meaning more are not in the group anymore. Maybe they need to go an extra package of support for such children including tuition and support at home. Not the same of school of course but to help support both the child and parents.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 12/06/2020 12:40

TrustTheGeneGenie

If I was on my phone I'd give you the clapping emoji but I'm not so have a Grin instead. Good luck.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/06/2020 12:41

Fantastic news @TrustTheGeneGenie Glitterball

Teateaandmoretea · 12/06/2020 12:41

We are locked down for 0.06?!

Well it’s probably lower because the figures are basically a week old GrinHmm

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 12/06/2020 12:42

I’m back to work next week in school (full time) woohoo. Funnily enough, once the dementor parents hear how many are coming back, we’ve had numerous emails asking if there is any space left. What a shocker! Not.

Cattermole · 12/06/2020 12:42

Dear God @trappedsincesundaymorn don't be giving her the Clap as well!!!!!

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/06/2020 12:42

Yep, probably closer to 1 in 3000 now!

Orangeblossom78 · 12/06/2020 12:42

I read this today about blood group A being worse for the virus - not sure about AB though (I have that one)

Then I checked and is from 23andme genetics tests and not so much difference as might first think really. www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/severe-coronavirus-symptoms-are-more-likely-in-those-with-blood-type-a-ptvlxfhqh

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/06/2020 12:46

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight FOMO is the answer, we've been saying it on here for ages. I'm so curious to see who will be starting back on Mon with DD. Am expecting lowish numbers to start with, followed by a steady trickle of children of dementors who can't stand other kids being in if theirs aren't.

Allflightscancelled · 12/06/2020 12:48

GeneGenie Woohoo! for your DBS!

Get that voluntary notice request in and start your new job. You'll feel so much better about things. It's always good starting something new, especially now, when everything else is so very old and stale. Also, new jobs always take up all your attention for a bit so you'll have no time to be hacked off like the rest of us

Allflightscancelled · 12/06/2020 12:49

Oh fab, orangeblossom. That's me screwed then if I ever meet anyone capable of passing the virus on to me

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/06/2020 12:49

38 out of 42 in DD2’s reception cohort are going back on Monday. Of the rest, 1 is shielding, 1 has a parent who is full blown dementor (I saw her and her two children walking down the street in masks and plastic visors the other day) and I don’t know the other two.

Bollss · 12/06/2020 12:50

Thank you! I'll let you know how it goes.

Ps @Dowser my dp has died my hair on more than one occasion and it has been fine!! He was surprisingly good!

Nihiloxica · 12/06/2020 12:50

@Teateaandmoretea

*We are locked down for 0.06?!*

Well it’s probably lower because the figures are basically a week old GrinHmm

It's way higher now because of SECOND WAVE is on its way. Shock

Super post about long-term vulnerability @SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

So much comes down to how timescales affect things.

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 12:51

@ThatLibraryMiss You have three poms 😍! The noise when the doorbell goes must be quite something though 😂. They look like proper poms, mine is just a ridiculous fluff ball. People always think she’s a teacup dog because she’s so tiny, she weighs 3kg and is 20cm at the shoulder, but she comes from a family of normal sized dogs she’s just a runt I think. Here’s another gratuitous cute photo.

I just wish that the education issue was regarded as one that must be solved, rather than a hopeless conundrum. It will need investment and maybe some compromises, but surely most children not being in an education setting can't continue indefinitely. I'd like to see creative solutions for shielded children, maybe shielded bubbles so they can socialise with others or at least some kind of online interactive education like tuition or small group lessons. My child isn't being shielded so I'm not sure what would suit families best, but I hope by Septemeber all children can access the best schooling for their circumstances.
