Ok. Now I'm being inept. How do I load a pic using my phone? I can see it on my post and then it doesn't appear

Teaandbiscuits88 · 12/06/2020 09:08

I ventured into a coronavirus thread and wished I hadn’t. The doom and gloom is terrifying. Thank god there’s some positivity on these threads!

AnxiousElephant77 · 12/06/2020 09:13

@Teaandbiscuits88 Don't do it to yourself. You'll leave with a nervous twitch and start to question everything.

Teaandbiscuits88 · 12/06/2020 09:18

@AnxiousElephant77 you’re so right. My meds can’t cope with the level of anxiety that causes Grin

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 09:19

That’s an excellent article. I fear I might be an economy dementor and have been all along. I’ve never been able to understand the forget about the economy people are dying mindset, how could completely shutting down the country for everything but the most vital of services ever have lead to anything other than a recession the like of we’ve never seen before in our lifetimes?

Nihiloxica · 12/06/2020 09:25

Glad you are feeling a bit better this morning, trapped.

Bollss · 12/06/2020 09:26

I sway between being an economy dementor and having faith that as soon as we are allowed people will go out and spend because it's something to do.

I really really hope the latter happens. I know there will still be job losses. I still believe the recession will be worse than the virus.

With Boris's shock of realising there will be 3.5 million unemployed I'm hoping he starts asking rishi what to do.

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 09:30

We know Rishi is very pro going to 1m, I fervently hope Boris will listen to him over that. We can’t move much further forward until we do that.

SomewhereEast · 12/06/2020 09:30

At this stage I'm just hoping that Dishy Rishi will save us all. He comes across as reasonably competent, which instantly puts him streets ahead of literally every other Tory.

BakewellTarts · 12/06/2020 09:36

Morning all.

Loving the cute pet pics. Nice way to start the day.

I'm really worried about the economy too. 20% in one month is shocking. Poverty kills and ruins lives. I can't understand why noone is talking about this. The costs of lockdown just aren't worth it at this point.

I'm team Rishi of all the politicos he is now the only one I can litsen too.

KaronAVyrus · 12/06/2020 09:36

They’ve got to move to 1metre. They can’t just destroy the economy like this. Such a dereliction of duty.

Ibake · 12/06/2020 09:40

Someone up thread questioned Rishi's influence as he was brought in to be a DC yes man. I'm hoping he's more politically astute than that. He's built up quite a lot of collateral for himself and I'm hoping he feels he can take on DC now.

I've just had a very satisfactory dementor exchange. Decided to put my Philip Thomas article out there and got the usual 'but people are DYING' response but one person scoffed at my article as mere speculation and I was able to reply quick smart (thank you, thank you @livinlavidaloki) with Ferguson's spectacularly failed forecasting record and asked why his projections were any better, or more trustworthy that Philip Thomas's. Tumbleweed. Proper put a spring in my step that has (although still sulking over my inability to post a pic of my dog)

AnxiousElephant77 · 12/06/2020 09:40

I agree. I didn't realise France had already moved to 1m. I know the queues would suggest otherwise, but I do love me a bit of retail therapy, and the thought of standing in endless queues and it all being a bit palaver doesn't fill me with enthusiasm about shopping.

Has anyone else seen this? An article in the Independent by a Mumsnet member.

when such extravagant behaviour is allowed again

This reminded me of Bill Bryson's talk of the English love of moderate enjoyment Grin Things like saying "Ooh lovely" when a cup of tea is offered, or the delights of a plain biscuit.

Currently trawling through pictures to find a picture of my two fearsome hunters to add to the cuteness quota on here...

Pleasedontdothat · 12/06/2020 09:43

@Nihiloxica our lovely old lady cat was not one of the world’s great hunters but she did have a special talent for hunting worms ... if it had been a really rainy night we’d often come down to be greeted by a very proud cat surrounded by tiny worm corpses on the kitchen floor.

She died a few weeks ago and I’m still bereft

Too many posts to mention but I’m incensed by how your mother’s been treated @Cattermole - that’s (sadly not) unbelievably poor

I’m having a not great morning - it’s my enforced day off (our hours and pay got cut by 20%, supposedly until August but I suspect indefinitely) and there’s nothing to do and nowhere to go. Dh has started getting up earlier and earlier and this morning was thumping around the house at 4:45 😠 and was then surprised that I was awake too.

I can’t even go out for my normal dog walk as my dog (officially the cutest dog in the world - fact) ran into a log on a walk a couple of days ago and has a massive hole in his chest being held together with staples. He’s feeling extremely sorry for himself (and we’d just cancelled the insurance as the premiums had jumped up and with my pay cut and DH’s work disappearing in a puff of virus-ridden miasma we are now skint)

BarkandCheese · 12/06/2020 09:45

I’m hoping Rishi getting his post by being a Boris yes man was just an astute move on his part rather than his real feelings. Honestly, I feel like that scene in Star Wars where Laya sends the message via R2D2, except we’re “help us Rishi, you’re our only hope”.

AnxiousElephant77 · 12/06/2020 09:48

I can't with that article. I don't even know where to start with it. So my children and their education aren't allowed to matter?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 12/06/2020 09:49

Nihiloxica

I am thankyou. Writing it all down yesterday helped...it was like opening a valve and letting the pressure escape. Knowing that it wouldn't be met with cries of BUT AT LEAST YOU'RE NOT DEAD!!!!, which I have had irl, made it a lot easier.

I think yesterday was when I reached the top of the roller coaster, looked down and got scared. Today I'm going down the other side with a "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" and an "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh" , safe in the knowledge that the ride will come to an end at some point.

Ibake · 12/06/2020 09:51

Lol @barkandcheese that image is going to stay!
@trapped glad your vent was cathartic. Am hoping it's not too prescient that my favourite rollercoaster is Oblivion at Alton Towers!

Nihiloxica · 12/06/2020 09:52

@Pleasedontdothat

Sorry for the loss of the scourge of worms Sad

The wriggly gits probably had an underground party when they heard of her demise.

That's rubbish about your dog and the insurance.

Yay! It's Friday... oh.

From reading the headline and sub head, I'm pretty sure I know who write it, and the answer is - no they aren't.

It's OK to be selfish if you are vulnerable to Covid.

Even to the extent that you want millions if children harmed by removing them from education to protect your own child.
