Will there be a shortage of Marmite

Marmite is a by product of brewing. If most breweries have stopped production does that mean I have to start buying in slightly larger quantities?

That’s great news!!!

(Hater, clearly not a lover.... of marmite!!!)

Magpiecomplex · 09/06/2020 18:44

There already is in my supermarket! I had to buy some online...

homemadecommunistrussia · 09/06/2020 18:56

Shit. I couldn't get soy sauce tonight either, what's that about?

Can't get Worcestershire sauce anywhere either.... Confused

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 09/06/2020 19:03

I've no idea about soy sauce but isn't worcestershire sauce brewed for 18 months or something. So if there's a shortage of that it'll be next year sometime.

I think I may buy extra marmite this week 🤔

Yikes ! Are you sure ?

quickly adds a couple of jars to the shopping list

lachy · 09/06/2020 19:06

Marmite shortage you say?

BRB... just need to pop to Tesco

TheGirlWhoLived · 09/06/2020 19:06

Not short of Worcestershire sauce yet but I do live in Worcester, so hopefully we won’t get too low Grin

I think things that start like this (rumours/hearsay/something one person sees and then comments on etc) are what perpetuates the low stock.

I’ve seen this now so I could go and pick up an extra marmite, a large Worcester sauce and a couple of soy sauce - JUST IN CASE. Then someone else sees the shelves are low and grabs a couple extra for her mums dog as that’s all he will eat and before you know it we’ve made the empty shelves happen.

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 09/06/2020 19:11

Hmm TheGirlWhoLived maybe you're right. Maybe I should have just bought extra this week.

Breweries in the UK are producing more beer than ever, to keep up with the demand of home drinking.
Your marmite is safe

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 09/06/2020 19:19

Phew, that's a relief. Thank you

My other half will be devastated if he can't have his Marmite lo

yikesanotherbooboo · 09/06/2020 19:23

I just heard on the news that breweries are up and running from todayGrin

EdithWeston · 09/06/2020 19:24

With even limited outdoors pub opening, British breweries are back in business (interview on the news today)

I think Marmite is safe

Bloodybridget · 09/06/2020 19:25

Well, I couldn't get Marmite in my Sainsbury's delivery last week, I had to order their own label reduced salt yeast extract!

AnnieCartwright · 09/06/2020 19:26

Having just discovered Marmite peanut butter, I sincerely hope not!!

Swishswish26 · 09/06/2020 19:27

No soy sauce in our supermarkets either!!

PersonaNonGarter · 09/06/2020 19:29

There was plenty in Costco yesterday.

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 09/06/2020 19:29

Annie there was loads of that in my supermarket last week

GingerbreadTeen · 09/06/2020 19:29

Oh crikey, would be a disaster for me. Op, slight derail but have you ever had marmite chocolate? Wink

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 09/06/2020 19:31

Yes but I didn't like it 😩

Our Tesco ran out at the start of the panic buying. Bought Vegemite instead - barf!

TheGirlWhoLived · 09/06/2020 22:31

Hey @JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast who am I to judge? I totally just bought a marmite when I went to Tesco (just in case!) I was NOT ahead of the curve and scrabbled around for toilet roll with the riff raff, shan’t make that mistake again!

Davros · 09/06/2020 23:46

I had a Marmite Easter egg, it was vile and I love marmite. I do like the Marmite cheese and butter though

IagoWithABlackberry · 10/06/2020 00:09

Local Asda hasn't had marmite the last few times I've been. We too are reduced to own brand yeast extract. It just doesn't sound appealing.
