Will there be a shortage of Marmite

Marmite is a by product of brewing. If most breweries have stopped production does that mean I have to start buying in slightly larger quantities?

I'm not taking any chances!

I read today that there will be a shortage of Marmite for a while. A few weeks ago I bought a really big tub and am now very glad I did. I haven't started it yet, still using a jar.

It's marmageddon!!

I had to hunt some down for DH just to keep him away from my (far superior ) Vegemite

I have some marmite left and have opened the last bottle in my stock pile of Henderson’s Relish. (I stockpile as it’s a rare find in Suffolk).

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

EngagedAgain · 11/06/2020 23:06

Hopefully supermarkets are still limiting, and people will only be allowed 3 jars.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 11/06/2020 23:08

Nooo! How will I make marmite bread and marmite pasta? I must try and get a jar when I go shopping.

carlywurly · 11/06/2020 23:18

Marmite pasta you say? Mmmm

I bought our first jar in years the other day without knowing of the imminent panic. Result.

UselessTrees · 11/06/2020 23:23

Well, the stealth marketing worked on me, because I made sure I grabbed a jar while shopping today (considered taking several, but decided that was silly). Me and DD2 bloody love Marmite.

BananaPop2020 · 12/06/2020 00:57

No Marmite in Sainsbury’s today ..... not looking good

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 12/06/2020 11:43

This could be an interesting collaberation

I’ve been struggling to get ‘real’ Worcestershire sauce. Can get plenty of fake alternatives though - yuk.

homemadecommunistrussia · 12/06/2020 12:32

Well I have succumbed and bought a big jar. Peer pressure Grin

AlCalavicci · 12/06/2020 21:59

I succumb too and bought two jars , life without marmite on toast is just pah !

Now if Marmite and Brew dog get together that would be ace , i love there Nanny State IPA

I wonder if we brew our own beer could we make our own marmite ???

TazSyd · 13/06/2020 04:28

I bought some marmite last night. Popped to the corner shop for milk and bread. There were only 3 jars of marmite left.

TazSyd · 13/06/2020 11:04

Do you have a recipe for marmite pasta please? Or is it just a case of adding some marmite to the cooked pasta?

Heidihoo · 13/06/2020 11:34

TazSyd we use the Nigella recipe but adjust the amounts of Marmite as DH is obsessed with this dish.

You're welcome Grin

LavenderLilacTree · 13/06/2020 11:38

Please everyone, tell me you don't buy Marmite - it's really expensive. Supermarkets own brand are much cheaper and exactly the same.

TazSyd · 13/06/2020 12:06

Thank you @Heidihoo. I can make the veggie version of that tomorrow.

AlCalavicci · 13/06/2020 12:33

@IagoWithABlackberry
I disagree, I have tried Tescos and although I wouldn't say it's horrible marmite is much better imo

ExpletiveDelighted · 13/06/2020 12:36

No, they're not exactly the same, made that mistake once, won't be making it again.

AgeLikeWine · 13/06/2020 12:41

I would like to inform all the worried Marmite lovers that I am doing my bit to maintain supplies of the brown stuff by consuming lots and lots of delicious 🍺. Cheers!

THisbackwithavengeance · 13/06/2020 12:53

Marmite peanut butter is the food of the Gods. I eat it straight from the jar no wonder I am fat.

lucysmam · 13/06/2020 12:56

Well, I clicked out of mild curiosity & am now eating two slices of toast with marmite
