Will there be a shortage of Marmite

Marmite is a by product of brewing. If most breweries have stopped production does that mean I have to start buying in slightly larger quantities?

Morrisons was short on marmite when I went as well

gymbummy · 10/06/2020 14:36

Not sure about shortages but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice Aldi's own version of Marmite is

You can have my share.

Well, there was a whole shelf when I went to tesco this morning. I got 2 jars.

I bought the aldi version a while back too and yes it seems about the best of the own brands.

Can't get Worcestershire sauce anywhere either..

Me neither. I lknew I meant to come on here to moan about something|! I tried 5 shops! I am bereft! I shall be very cross if Marmite is in short supply.

JellyfishandShells · 10/06/2020 16:08

It’s a mainstay of my diet ( I mean as in the food I eat, not a regime) . I can’t eat cheese due to intolerance so that savoury, salty hit of Marmite with hummus on a crispbread is my substitute. However, the nearest we got to stockpiling was my DH v kindly buying me two huge jars so I’m good for a while.

NewAccountForCorona · 10/06/2020 16:11

Sorry, but hang on a sec.

Marmite peanut butter

wtf Shock

TazSyd · 10/06/2020 16:15

Plenty of soy sauce in our local co-op.

I’m running a bit low on marmite, must buy some next time I’m out. No marmite would be a disaster 😀.

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/06/2020 16:19

I noticed last week that Sainsburys only had the medium sized jars, no large or small, no squeezy. No Marmite would be a disaster in our house too.

Deathraystare · 10/06/2020 16:33

There is already a lack of Zoflora. The only one I can get is the clean linen one.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 10/06/2020 16:37

There's a shortage of marmite because I have it all. There's 9 jars in the cupboard because it's on Ocado as one of those automatic things that pops into your trolley whenever you place an order and I don't delete it because it keeps forever and is delicious.

I put into everything but a scoop of marmite in your beans on the hob when you're making cheesy beans on toast is just the best thing ever.

Thighmageddon · 10/06/2020 16:39

I've run out of marmite and we can't find any in the shops where we are.

My life is bloody well over.

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/06/2020 16:39

I can live without Zoflora, there are other disinfectants (which smell much less pungent) but Marmite is unique.

TazSyd · 10/06/2020 16:39

There is already a lack of Zoflora.

They had 3 types in Tesco. Maybe these shortages are regional.

MitziK · 10/06/2020 16:45

There's no shortage of people wanting to buy alcohol to drink at home. The big breweries will be fine.

So Brewer's Yeast and, by extension, yeast extract, supplies will be fine.

In any case, it's the major dietary source of B12 for 50% of the population. They CAN'T let Marmite disappear off the shelves!

Deathraystare · 10/06/2020 19:27

That's what I do with worcester sauce - when I have some that is!

Another reason for me to shop there. I love the salmon and Greek natural yogurt.

chocolateisavegetable · 11/06/2020 13:52

I've just ordered a 600g tub from Amazon for £7.20 Grin

maggienolia · 11/06/2020 22:17

Try Marmite flatbreads. They are the bomb.

CoolShoeshine · 11/06/2020 22:28

I have two adored relatives on the autistic spectrum who virtually live on a diet of marmite so sincerely hope people don’t start panic buying

Ploppymoodypants · 11/06/2020 22:30

It’s started!
Here where I live the supermarkets now only stock the small jars of marmite 😱

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/06/2020 22:34

Argh for goodness sake don't tell my 4 year old, we ran out recently it was a disaster.

BIWI · 11/06/2020 22:34

Yes definitely there will - there's a shortage of brewer's yeast, because the breweries aren't able to make so much beer, because the pubs and bars are closed.

If you're a Marmite lover, buy it now!

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/06/2020 22:36

They had plenty in Tesco the other day. I think it's all a ploy by their marketing team.

On the other hand I always have a spare jar, and I bought a very large jar for a family who are shielding

vera99 · 11/06/2020 22:40

Guerilla marketing by marmite - don't buy it , don't dance to their tune.
