Will there be a shortage of Marmite

Marmite is a by product of brewing. If most breweries have stopped production does that mean I have to start buying in slightly larger quantities?

I can recommend these Marmite rice cakes. Next time I'm going shopping, I'm going to try Marmite cashew nuts.

@LavenderLilacTree

Please everyone, tell me you don't buy Marmite - it's really expensive. Supermarkets own brand are much cheaper and exactly the same.
No they're not.

Marmite is one of those things you have to buy the brand

It really isn't.

Same way Vegemite doesn't taste the same.

Marmite is 🤮 anyway so feel free to take my share! Grin

DrCoconut · 13/06/2020 13:51

Flamingo, you can get Hendo's quite easily here. But we are near Sheffield.

RedCatBlueCat · 14/06/2020 18:10

I'm pleased to report there was plenty of marmite, plus the inferior tesco own brand stuff, on the shelf this afternoon. Breakfast for DS2 in secure for another month!
I also bought a jar of bovril. So my breakfast is secure.

Davros · 15/06/2020 18:41

I've volunteered at our local community supermarket starting tomorrow (putting together home delivery orders for vulnerable), all I can think of is checking the marmite shelf ......

JacobReesMogadishu · 15/06/2020 18:45

Marmite has been hard to get hold of on and off for months. Marmite peanut butter thankfully seems OK.

Still struggling for baking powder. Bought some online for £5 yesterday!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 15/06/2020 18:46

I noticed marmite butter in M&S yesterday Shock

TazSyd · 15/06/2020 19:06

Marmite butter? That’s just lazy 😁.

(But a good substitute, if we do run out of the jar / squeeze stuff.)

maras2 · 15/06/2020 19:23

Tesco ok'd my on line Marmite order but said that the quantity could not be increased.
On receiving said order today it had been substituted with Marmite XO < extra taste >.
£1.50 to me but I'll have to see what it tastes like in the morning.

CoolShoeshine · 16/06/2020 08:31

Tesco has empty shelves of marmite this week. I bought the last remaining jar of marmite peanut butter. It does not taste good.

Deathraystare · 16/06/2020 09:35

I managed to get some in our tiny Sainsbury's yesterday. I also managed (at last) to get black peppercorns in a mill from M&S after months of trying every blummin' shop!

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 16/06/2020 11:49

@maras2 it's very nice. It's a bit stronger than normal Marmite.
It's a good thing they didn't substitute for the own brand. That could have been a disaster

You're right jim
It's lovely.
Thank you.

Izzabellasasperella · 17/06/2020 07:34

Morrisons haven't had any for ages. Tesco online is out of stock and they've taken marmite crisps(which are delicious) off completely!
I have an own brand jar but it is definitely NOT the same.

JacobReesMogadishu · 17/06/2020 07:40

It came back in stock on morrisons website yesterday. I added it to my basket, will see if it arrives today.

Davros · 17/06/2020 21:59

I added Marmite and Marmite mini cheeses to my Tesco order today

RedCatBlueCat · 18/06/2020 11:23

Yeast supplies restored

JacobReesMogadishu · 18/06/2020 12:02

My marmite came from morrisons yesterday.

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 18/06/2020 16:22

Yes I also read that carlsburg are sending their brewers yeast to Marmite. So panic over, for nowWink

I got my Marmite and mini cheeses today

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/06/2020 17:30

There was something on R4 last week about demand for Marmite. They'd decided to just produce the ordinary size jars rather than all the different sizes to maximise the production (or distribution). I got a 700g tub at the beginning of lock down and that was getting low so I ordered another whilst listening.
