@Librarybooksandacoconut

I feel a little bit more positive as NS has said that they are looking to move to phase 2 on the 18th which means playgrounds can open! Plus we can go in someone’s house and have small gatherings outside. It’s DS’s 5th birthday on the 20th and I’m really hoping he can play in our local playground with a friend or two then come back to ours for cake with my parents. Fuck it’s so depressing that these seems like the most amazing thing you can have for a 5th birthday party.
That does sound good, I can’t see us ever being allowed in anyone’s house again at the moment!

This is what lockdown does to people. Trigger warning suicide:

@Teateaandmoretea

No new deaths in Scotland for the second day in a row... how is NS spinning it today?

She must be bricking it

Surley it will just be spun as we've done the right thing our figures are zero look how great we've been - now we must continue to do the right thing.
Willow2017 · 08/06/2020 13:27

I am sick of every advert under the sun having some twee thing to say about Covid its basically 'stay safe and enjoy being locked up' but buy our product cos we are so concerned about you.
Especially the washing powder one with images of locked up play areas for kids and them supposed to be absolutely deleriously happy drawing fecking rainbows on the decking instead!

Feck off!

Teateaandmoretea · 08/06/2020 13:33

Oh just don’t Grin

TuckMyWin · 08/06/2020 13:33

@Willow2017 I very rarely watch live TV but did the other night, and by the second advert break was swearing at the TV for that very reason. Even the Macmillan advert was about how people with cancer are lonely because of coronavirus. Which infuriated me the most, I think.

KaronAVyrus · 08/06/2020 13:42

The stand out star, for me, during this pandemic has been Netflix. Worth every penny.

Shodan · 08/06/2020 13:44

That was my favourite moment of this whole thing GeneGenie "Not true - anyone can spread it"

That was v funny- but wasn't there also someone who proclaimed that MILLIONS had died, globally? Or was that another thread? That actually made me snort.

On another note- wrt the five mile thing in Wales. I have 11days booked in 2 separate areas (mid-west and North Wales) from middle of July. Is Doomy Drakeford saying that if we were to take it up (which we've decided not to, pretty much) we'd have to stick to the 5 mile rule? How would that work? Would we even be allowed in anyway, given that we're from plague-ridden England?

I guess I'm basically trying to find out if I can get a refund on my deposits or claim through insurance really...

I was initially feeling positive about Keir but he's a bit full on the lockdown is easing too soon is he not?

Totally agree - I really hoped he would be a voice of reason but he's chosen to go the opposite way

rookiemere · 08/06/2020 13:53

According to the BBC Nicola has said that the drop in numbers means its likely we'll be able to move on to some stages of Phase 2 come 18th June. I mean I get being cautious and all but if we consistently get to no deaths and single digit new cases then there might be a bit of an argument for moving things along a bit more swiftly one might think.

KaronAVyrus · 08/06/2020 13:53

I think we could move to phase 2 now.

enjoyingSun · 08/06/2020 13:54

There is supposed to reveiw on 18 th June in Wales - there may be more information then.

Our holiday been booked since before christmas in Dorset - we're still not sure if we could leave Wales by train and get there and back so are waiting till after then to work out if we need to cancel and get something back or if we'll be able to cross border and go.

justasking111 · 08/06/2020 13:57

Wales - DS who is on varied sites as a teenager says there is a plot to desecrate, smash up a statue in Denbigh of Henry Stanley, you know the one who searched for Livingstone in central africa because he was a racist. Now we are talking about the welsh here who are pretty white in general, historically a lot of red heads until the spanish armada washed up there and added a bit of dark hair into the mix. As they did in Ireland hence the dark haired blue eyed maidens

mightbealittlebitmad · 08/06/2020 13:58

I do wonder how long it will be before we are actually allowed to go into people's houses to socialise. I feel like they should give us a date because people will start doing it and have. It's all very well and good sitting 2m apart in a garden but the weather is hardly a guarantee and 2m isn't exactly conductive to a proper conversation.

Of course you will get people screaming that everybody will die but they can just stay at home. They clearly don't have people they want to socialise with anyway if they are happy to let this keep dragging on and on.

Allflightscancelled · 08/06/2020 14:00

DH and I have pretty much decided that we're going to Dorset in July regardless of whether we're allowed to or not.

We have access to our own accommodation (in theoryHmm) so we will just ignore lockdown if it's still in place.

justasking111 · 08/06/2020 14:02

Well Boris told me on FB to stand outside in the rain under an umbrella if I wanted to visit a relative in the rain this weekend so am not holding my breath.

BarkandCheese · 08/06/2020 14:04

The only non cringy covid advert is the KFC one which slightly takes the piss. “All By Myself” warbling on the sound track while the visuals show people’s dodgy attempts at homemade KFC type meals, complete with badly hand drawn logos on boxes.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/06/2020 14:07

I don’t mind the Maltesers one with the mum hiding in the cupboard under the stairs.

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/06/2020 14:10

I can’t remember the last time I saw an advert, it’s either Disney plus/YouTube shite (the DC), or Netflix/Amazon prime (DH) in our house. I don’t watch TV!

Willitneverend · 08/06/2020 14:11

I really hope we get play parks back on 18th.

Some local councils seem to be getting into a financial mess with the schools. They've spent a lot of reserves and are now struggling with the extra costs of schooling. So either the Scottish Government is going to have to bail them out or some kids are going to be getting less than 2 days a week contact time.

It sounds like bad news for Wales but I get the impression more folk are pissed off now, even some folk I know who were very pro lockdown.

Mascotte · 08/06/2020 14:12

I think Keir Starmer is doing well. He's letting the Government fuck things up all by themselves and steering a course to appeal to all sides when this is done.

Willitneverend · 08/06/2020 14:13

I also just saw some top shielding dementoring - shielders have been told they're not allowed out until July. Someone has announced its ok to carry on lockdown for 100 years so her friends and family dont die of the virus, then she will see them safely. Hmm

Mascotte · 08/06/2020 14:14

Like Sleeping Beauty...

Flippetydip · 08/06/2020 14:18

Had a slight panic when I saw the other thread had filled up but am very glad to have found you all again.

We visited friends over the weekend - 4 of us, 4 of them and the kids went in the house and we adults sat in the garage. I'm not really sure why to be honest, it's like we were trying to stick to the rules a bit but obviously the children didn't count.... I went in to the loo at one point and DS (11) said to me in a slightly awed voice "we are breaking so many rules".... tragic.

I feel the world is going to hell in a handcart. I want to go and visit my parents, but can't, I want my children to go to school but they can't, we "went" to a funeral this morning, which actually just meant gathering outside the crem. It was incredibly moving as it goes but also felt so insignificant for such an amazing man. And then on top of all this JK Rowling is getting death threats for suggesting that women menstruate.

Can I hand in my resignation to the human race please?

Nihiloxica · 08/06/2020 14:21

He's letting the Government fuck things up all by themselves and steering a course to appeal to all sides when this is done.

I was hoping for more than a retread of Corbyn's hopeless positioning from him.

Not a whisper about the lack of proportionality in the ongoing suspension of our rights.
