People right now are anti anything that benefits children.

rookiemere · 07/06/2020 09:45

The play areas should have been opened at the same time as the garden centres. I've been to a couple of garden centres in Scotland since they opened and there is a large contingent of older and therefore more vulnerable people there. If they get to do that, then how come outdoor play areas remain locked up ?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 07/06/2020 09:49

Can't cope this morning. The Times talking about kids not getting full time schooling till January and a levels and GCSEs might not go ahead next yr. utter utter madness and there is literally nothing I can do to change it apart from writing to my mp. I am just destroyed.

TheGreatWave · 07/06/2020 09:49

Honestly it is ridiculous "to stop the spread of covid" line is being trotted out. Open when it's safe, apparently. What like golf courses? I am actually really angry about it.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 07/06/2020 09:54

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully I'm feeling the same way today. My mood swings all over the place with this shit. DD is year 1 now, so she's going back next week (unless something comes along to fuck it up) but not to her old room or her old teacher. Haven't told her that yet as she's going to be gutted. But what about in September? She's going into year 2, so does that mean school stops again? What the fuck??

TheGreatWave · 07/06/2020 09:54

All the local councillors are in agreement so there is nothing I can do, apparently I will get covid off the swing, but presumably not the shopping basket in the local spar.

Honestly I am so sick of this.

Willitneverend · 07/06/2020 09:55

@BakewellTarts I didn't mean us declaring UDI, but more as an addition rather than a replacement.

I'm really pissed off about the play equipment too - tbh I am angry about everything this morning. Our kids have nothing to look forward to - school will start in months, no dates for football or rugby restarting, no play equipment, nothing. And in huge areas of the country there are no new cases.

Mascotte · 07/06/2020 09:59

The lack of physical exercise for children and teens is a massive worry. It's weird how it's been swept aside as though it simply doesn't matter. My child wants to play with friends not go for walks with his old mother!

And he walked into town yesterday to meet a friend and was dementored in the wild by an old woman who disapproved of his position on the pavement and told him ok, she'd die instead by walking in the road, as she'd lived longer anyway 🤷‍♀️

TheGreatWave · 07/06/2020 10:00

Honestly I am fighting a losing battle, the government has done a good 'un on making people absolutely terrified and thinking that there is a virus lurking on every corner.

Just wash your bloody hands and don't stick your fingers in your mouth.

TeacupDrama · 07/06/2020 10:00

@willitneverend fellow living in Scotland anti dementor despairing at education even though DD10 engages with and does her online projects she is bright and has learnt nothing new since March except a bit about volcanoes and Victorian workhouses there has been no new maths or English, definitely no French and to be honest history and geography are much easier to teach your kids than new maths concepts,

KaronAVyrus · 07/06/2020 10:04

Just so sick of this never ending bullshit.
I’ve been furloughed
DH business going down the shitter
Longed for holiday cancelled
2 eldest back from uni - both furloughed and bored to tears
DS3 should be doing his Nat 5s (GCSEs) next year but they’re probably cancelled and he’ll get blended learning bullshit instead.

The whole thing is a fiasco. Seriously had enough of this crap.

MagdaS · 07/06/2020 10:06

@HauntedGoatFart

The protest dementors in particular can fuck right off. "Well, everybody dies when they get the virus, but BAME individuals DIE EXTRA HARD, so it's for their own good that they or anyone who objects to racism should be prevented from peaceful protest. And Covid is definitely a bigger threat to BAME people than hundreds of years of institutional racism. Lucky them that I'm there to tell them that."

We're off to see the PIL today and I fully expect DS2 to run at them full tilt for cuddles.

I know the thread has moved on a bit but this absolutely nailed the head tilty it’s for your own good bollocks spouted by the protest dementors. It’s blind privilege all over the place.
rookiemere · 07/06/2020 10:06

I found out that some of DSs school mates were playing football, so I got him to contact them and yesterday I drove him there ( we live a little far out from the school and normally he would get a bus) and picked him up after. He plans to do the same today.

He was like a different person when I picked him up, it was like an inner glow. I don't care anymore about breaking the rules as the rules are destroying my DS and are nonsensical anyway. Let's force all of the youth to stay indoors forever, but meanwhile open up Garden Centres, M&s clothes department and allow golf, tennis and bowls.

In other news a staggering 6 people in Scotland died of coronavirus or perhaps with who knows, Definitely worth fucking up the younger generations education and long term health to save 6 people.

TooManyButtons · 07/06/2020 10:07

Anyone fancy some nice new artwork to cheer themselves up? Grin

I do think technology creates interesting opportunities for education but children do not need more screen time. There is so much children learn from a classroom environment, interacting with other children, and screens are no substitute for this. We need to build a generation of innovators and creative thinkers, not a load of automatons blindly stabbing out their times tables on a tablet. We will have computers that do all this stuff for us - humans need to be good at the things computers aren't.

Littlebelina · 07/06/2020 10:10

Toomanybuttons, I'm actually speechless. I know lockdown has given some people too much time on their hands but what sociopath comes up with that.

bookworm14 · 07/06/2020 10:10

What the actual fuck is that picture?

Bollss · 07/06/2020 10:11

@LivinLaVidaLoki aw thank you! That genuinely means a lot!! Smile

These threads have been my sanity, honestly!

Ps for those worried about talking to much about side issues as in Scottish / Welsh education (or not as the case may be) I just wanna say please feel free to talk about it as much as you like! All of our issues matter and they might not directly apply to everyone on the thread but we can all offer support or even just a sympathetic ear! Flowers

Teateaandmoretea · 07/06/2020 10:12

There are loads of ♥️ Confused

I thought it depicted children being locked in while the oldies go to the garden centre before I read the explanation.

TheGreatWave · 07/06/2020 10:13

I've given up. FB is MN X 100.

KaronAVyrus · 07/06/2020 10:14

Round my way it’s a picture of all the old folk popping to M & S whilst the children have to look at locked up play parks.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 07/06/2020 10:14

Me too, Tea!

Shodan · 07/06/2020 10:14

Morning everyone.

Saw a nice bit of dementoring on my local FB page- a band that usually plays at a popular pub asking for opinions on outdoor music to help get things going again. Most were supportive (given that they specified that it wasn't right now but when it was 'allowed') but one Dementor popped up to say NO! IT'S TOO SOON. And then "Sorry guys" Like it was his decision Hmm

Pompous Prig.

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/06/2020 10:16

Haha so do I! I thought it was depicting the children being stuck at home while their grandparents popped off to their next door neighbours for a coffee, or went for a game of golf Grin
TheGreatWave · 07/06/2020 10:18

To be brutal, surely lots of grandparents don't get to say goodbye. My Nan went on holiday, felt ill, went to bed and died. No goodbyes.

My fil went into hospital and died, no goodbyes.

So deaths happen without prior warning or not somewhere where 3 under 5's (including a newborn) can go and visit.
