Considering the sudden about turn regarding face masks/coverings for all in hospitals, cant help but wonder if that is now where most infection is occurring. Seems odd to be doing it now and not when we were at the peak.

Dowser · 06/06/2020 08:34

Gene genie, my 17 year old grandson is working pt at macdonalds
He has to wear a mask and he’s cooking. He had to pull it off his nose, he couldn’t breathe

They are just awful

Bollss · 06/06/2020 08:35

I know what you mean. My mum was telling me her hospital are providing uniforms for those who don't usually have them in her dept which is pharmacy (so they can get changed before they leave)

I wonder whether the gov full well know the biggest prob is hospitals but they don't really want to admit that outright so they're doing under the radar things like this an announcing "token" stuff to the public like masks on public transport

RubberDinghyRapids · 06/06/2020 08:38

@TrustTheGeneGenie Ah... wondered what they were talking about on the work group chat yesterday. Our inpatient staff are already wearing masks all day and we're in PPE for clinics etc. I will work from home if they insist on masks.

Bollss · 06/06/2020 08:41

I don't blame you! I've got athsma so I wonder whether I'll have to wear one anyway? It's an awful feeling.

I'm only going to be a secretary but I don't know what exactly is going to be like it's not a part of the hospital I've ever been in!

Dowser · 06/06/2020 08:50

Here’s a nhs ceo fighting back about the absurd mask policy

He raises some good questions

HighdosevitaminD · 06/06/2020 08:51

I'm a doctor and as I have to wear the bastard masks at work I'm not fucking wearing them anywhere else. I hate the bloody things! I'd rather take my chances with the coronavirus thank you very much, which given I'm more likely to get hit by a bus I'd say the odds are stacked in my favour.

When we come out of the other side of this nightmare studies will show that, except for those in care homes, more people died as a result of lockdown than covid I reckon.

userxx · 06/06/2020 09:02

@HighdosevitaminD Yes!!! So glad to hear this from a doctor, I've said it from day one. It's fucking insane 🙈

heroku · 06/06/2020 09:05

Our landlord has put our flat on the market so we have to be out for 3 hours today while they do viewings. Cold, windy and drizzling outside and everything is closed. Any ideas where we can go for 3 hours?! I really don't fancy a 3 hour walk in the rain.

Bellesavage · 06/06/2020 09:12

The issue with walking anywhere with 2 DC and a bladder that has gone through having 2dc is the lack of toilets. Was thinking a walk around the woods would be nice today but we can only be out for an hour or so before one of us will need to walk home or wee in a bush!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 06/06/2020 09:12

@HighdosevitaminD - a friend who’s a consultant has told me that people are only coming in now for heart attacks they had weeks ago. The result is much more risk as there is more damage and the operations are more complex. I don’t know how the nhs will catch up. It’s such a mess.

dkl55 · 06/06/2020 09:12

Pmk

HighdosevitaminD · 06/06/2020 09:13

@userxx yes indeed - people are dying of treatable non covid conditions because they are unable or unwilling (through fear mostly) to seek medical attention. Stopping pretty much all non Covid non emergency NHS activities will leave a legacy of too late cancer diagnoses causing a huge number of fatalities. People are dying because their usual carers didn't attend. Suicides are up, domestic homicides are up. It's a truly awful picture and it makes me very angry.

LittleSwede · 06/06/2020 09:33

I must say I'm so glad my mum is in Sweden. She's had a metastasis/tumour removed from her lung a few weeks ago and luckily it looks like it hasn't spread further so chemotherapy not necessary as they caught it in time (showed up on her 6 monthly scan following cancer 5 years ago). I suspect this operation would not have happened here in the UK and the cancer may well have started to spread! Unfortunately it turns out she's got a heart condition too but they are letting her have ECG and scans at hospital, despite coronavirus, and she's having hospital appointments as necessary to follow up. Dare I even think this would have happened here?

That said DD has a few hospital appointments in neurology department and urology department coming up here in June and July so maybe some routine appointments are back on.

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/06/2020 09:33

9.30am and I’m bored out of my mind. The children are bored. I don’t want to go for a walk. I don’t want to go for a drive. I don’t want to go to a garden centre or a supermarket.

userxx · 06/06/2020 09:36

@Drivingdownthe101 What do you want to do or are you that fed up you don't know? Hate days like that.

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/06/2020 09:41

I think I’m just fed up and being grumpy Grin. I want to do all the things I can’t do. Take the girls to their ballet class then go for a coffee with my friend while we’re waiting for them to finish. A relaxed wander around the shops. Go to the spa that I have membership at. Go out for lunch with DH while my mum has the DC (she had them every Saturday afternoon pre corona!). Even take the DC to bloody soft play!

BarkandCheese · 06/06/2020 09:44

DrivingDown I hear you. DH has already taken the dog for a walk so that’s off the table, DD is going out with a friend so I’ve no need to walk her Grin . I want to have a mooch round the shops and get coffee, or go to the cinema or really push the boat out and go up to London, have lunch at the Japan centre then go to the V&A and just wander. If I hear one more person on TV telling us to enjoy nature around us I’m going to scream, I’m bored of outdoors and nature, I want to do indoor stuff Angry .

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/06/2020 09:46

I enjoyed nature for the first week or so. Now, not so much. Especially in the pissing down rain. I could get the children all dressed and ready to go out for a walk in the rain, but it would be miserable.

ISaySteadyOn · 06/06/2020 09:49

@Drivingdownthe101, library and soft play would actually be my ideal atm.

@HighdosevitaminD, is it fear of the virus or fear of burdening the NHS more do you think?

Mascotte · 06/06/2020 09:50

This time of year we usually go to London for a weekend. I'd like to be lingering over a hotel buffet breakfast, before heading out to a gallery, stopping for lots of coffees/drinks then glamming up for a nice meal. Stumbling back to hotel in actual heels.

BarkandCheese · 06/06/2020 09:50

It’s not raining here at least. We’ve booked to do crazy golf tomorrow so that’s something I guess, and on Wednesday we’ve got tickets to go to my favourite NT property for a walk in the gardens. It won’t be the same without tea and cake after though.

HighdosevitaminD · 06/06/2020 10:06

@ISaySteadyOn fear of the virus mainly I think, and the perception that the NHS is only treating covid patients currently.

I also long to be able to take my children swimming, to soft play or even shopping. I want to book a holiday (just a holiday let in the UK) in July but I don't know if its wise in case sodding lockdown is still persisting then. There are cottages available to boom from 4th July so hopefully that's a good sign.

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/06/2020 10:07

HighdosevitaminD I’ve just booked a cottage in Devon for the first week in August. Needed something to look forward to!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 06/06/2020 10:10

I’m in wales so am going to take advantage of the 5 mile radius we’re allowed and go on a different walk! After lunch I’ll clean the house and get dinner delivered. I know how to live...Any spike you see in the next month that’ll be me getting my thrills!

I wanna go shopping in a tacky centre and get slightly too drunk in a chain Italian. I want to not see dd and dh for a few hours. I’m sooo bored. Sulk!
