I have just discovered that most of the Sweet Valley High series are available on Kindle Unlimited and that I can get a two month free trial.

Anybody like to join me on a (socially distanced) journey back through life with Elizabeth, Jessica, Todd, et al?

I actually prefered the Sweet Valley Twins books (the ones in Middle School). I found it hard to cross over to SVH as several character personalities were different or major events that happened at middle school were never mentioned.

That’s always the problem with prequels though isn’t it? They never quite fit with the ‘later’ books that were written first.

Empress there was the 'Kids' series too when the twins were 7. I can't remember if that actually matched character wise !! And then they did Sweet Valley Junior High series - the middle school closed and everyone was split into different schools - so conveniently old characters could never be mentioned again !!

Oh I loved SVH! Thanks for this thread I’ve just watched the first episode on YouTube and signed up for kindle unlimited.

My only disappointment is that my favourite one isn’t available on there, anyone remember the desert adventure two part special? Treasure in Death Valley and Nightmare in Death Valley, only the first one in on kindle...I might have ordered the second part on paperback!!

And even WEIRDER- Liz ends up with BRUCE PATMAN! who apparently, has a personality change after both his parents die in a car crash.

I think Francine's downfall is that she wanted them all the stay within the SVH crowd so tried to pair them all up together awkwardly but in a dramatic way. The fact is, its rare for people to settle down with someone they went to school with. Sure, it happens, but for everyone in your friendship group to only date other people from school?- nah thats ridiculous. I think I would rather have poked my own eyes out with a blunt pencil than marry any of the idiot boys in my school

I loved SVH and SVU. I was so excited when the sequel came out a few years ago about them as adults. It. Was. Shit. Sooooo poorly written (wasn't the same author, in fact I think the whole swries had various writers as they were credited with 'created by Francine Pascal') and I was very disappointed. Suddenly Jessica had liked Todd all along. What a shit thing to do to your own twin btw. Bruce gets a personality transplant and the one person who utterly loathed him ends up with him! And Steven, who had had a string of girlfriends including Billie who got pregnant and they almost got married, was suddenly gay. Wtf.

I liked the original stories but then they went down the weird specials route (complete with vampire??) And they got stupid.

And OMG Elizabeth's angst about losing her virginity! You've been with your boyfriend for 2 years and the most you've done is usually peck each other. Just shag him ffs! But it was a decision she wanted to make with her head, not her heart. 😆

Thinking back, very few of the characters were likeable. Enid turned into a right bitch at uni and ditched Elizabeth as Alexandra was far too cool for Elizabeth.

Elizabeth went from a size 6 (10) to an 8 or 10 (so 12/14). The horror!! I remember Jessica saying she looked like a sausage 😆.

I hated the recent update too, just all wrong.

Francine Pascal apparently never wrote any of the SVH books in full - googling tells me she wrote ‘most of’ the first one but all the others were other writers, although apparently it was Pascal who came up with all the stories.
