Sweet Valley High

Stillinbedat10am · 30/05/2020 22:30

I have just discovered that most of the Sweet Valley High series are available on Kindle Unlimited and that I can get a two month free trial.

Anybody like to join me on a (socially distanced) journey back through life with Elizabeth, Jessica, Todd, et al?

Ive just downloaded a few, starting at 94.

The crazy margo/ third twin story was about the same time i grew out of SVH, I cant wait for a cringy evening reading about their perfect size 6 figures and sea coloured eyes Grin

Don't forget the matching gold lavaliere necklaces @PheasantPlucker1! A present from their parents on their sixteenth birthday...

I loved SVT! My daughter is called Jessica .... I always loved the name. Then my husband asked if her middle name could be after his mothers middle name ... Elizabeth!....I'm not even joking! BlushBlushBlush

There is a great podcast where the hosts read a book and discuss it. I think it’s called Double Love.

x2boys · 31/05/2020 00:06

I used to I've these in the 80,s but apparently it all got rather surreal with volcano,s and etc ShockI also loved the books about cheerleaders

RJnomore1 · 31/05/2020 00:12

There was an update book a few years ago that’s worth a read if you can find it

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 31/05/2020 00:16

@PheasantPlucker1 omg that one!! Did you read the sequel to it? If not you are in for a treat! Sort of...

isabellerossignol · 31/05/2020 00:21

Am I right in thinking I remember one where the friend called Enid had a rich boyfriend with a pilot's license and he took her up in his plane and crashed. Did she end up paralysed or something?

YgritteSnow · 31/05/2020 00:23

I like reading the snarky blogs where they recap each book. So funny 😆

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 31/05/2020 00:27

I must find an Oxford cotton shirt and edit a paper whilst counselling 27 friends through life changing trauma. Didn't Bruce's original girlfriend die from an overdose? And how many times did the twins end up in a comatose state?

Aquamarine1029 · 31/05/2020 00:33

OMG I loved those books! Remember the one when Jessica dyed her hair black so she wouldn't look like Elizabeth anymore? Haha.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 31/05/2020 00:47

Have you heard the podcast??

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 31/05/2020 00:49

I loved these blokes, but looking back on them now they were just awful, Jessica was the worst. There was one book where an overweight girl was basically tortured, lost all the weight and then became super popular. Great lesson for all us teens Grin

The sweet valley confidential books sound shocking - (SPOILER).....................

I remember reading that Winston Egbert catches Todd cheating on Elizabeth with Jessica, but assumes it's Elizabeth. Barf.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 31/05/2020 00:50

Blokes? Books Grin

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 31/05/2020 00:52

Yes Isabelle - then she knew he was chasing someone else so she pretended to stay paralysed to keep hold of him, if I remember rightly.

Bottomplasters · 31/05/2020 01:05

I loved the sweet valley twin ones and babysitter club.

Is the very first one there? Can't see it

WoahBodyforrrm · 31/05/2020 01:14

Does anyone know the first line of the theme tune. I always knew I was singing it wrong but couldn't for the life of me work out what it was...

🎶 whit back down in a crowded hall, can't you see there's a beauty standing 🎶

Obvs it's not that so would love to finally know what is was.

I can so clearly remember the brown book shelves in the library (and the smell in there) and the excitement when they got a new one or someone returned one I hadn't read yet.

I also thought I'd be like the twins, throwing my hair up in a ponytail and throwing on a sweater but the reality is, my hair thrown up makes me look like Mrs Trunchbull and sweaters make me look like a potato.

What I'd give to go back to those days 💭

WoahBodyforrrm · 31/05/2020 01:15

Also, does anyone remember when they went camping in the desert? I remember something about a scorpion 🤔

ChocolatelyAsFuck · 31/05/2020 03:02

“One always comes up to you, the other’s shy and quiet...”

I’ll join in when you get to the werewolves and evil twin part of the series.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2020 06:48

I used to love these. They were so silly though by the end - there was a vampire, a werewolf, a French prince who asked Elizabeth to marry him... Grin

ChessieFL · 31/05/2020 07:00

I used to love these and the Sweet Valley Twins series, when they were 12. There was also Sweet Valley Kids, when they were 7, but I was too old for those by the time they came out.

Try reading If You Lived Here You’d Be Perfect By Now by Robin Hardwick where she rereads each of the books again as an adult. It’s hilarious!

For those asking Kindle Unlimited and Prime are completely separate things and having one has no impact on having the other.

Nquartz · 31/05/2020 07:04

@Bottomplasters there's a new Babysitters Club tv show coming to Netflix, I loved those books and SVT and SVH.

I read them all, I definitely want to have a trip down memory lane.

Zoflorabore · 31/05/2020 07:05

I’m 42 and i read pretty much every single one as a teenager! I always used to be impressed by the “split level ranch home” and other such nonsense.

I’m off to find these Grin

ChessieFL · 31/05/2020 07:06

Just remembered there was also a Sweet Valley University series!

HugeAckmansWife · 31/05/2020 07:16

Wasn't there a best friend called Lila who was basically a Mean Girl and Enid was Elizabeth's? Did Todd really end up with Jessica?? That would be v v weird
