I have just discovered that most of the Sweet Valley High series are available on Kindle Unlimited and that I can get a two month free trial.

Anybody like to join me on a (socially distanced) journey back through life with Elizabeth, Jessica, Todd, et al?

I remember watching the baby sitters club film. I bet that VHS is still knocking about in my dm loft Grin

burnoutbabe · 31/05/2020 10:11

Confidential and the final series (sweet life, 6 books) are not on kindle unlimited.
I may try the university ones again, yes Jessica married mike a bad biker type!
I like other American teenage series like room mates and freshman dorm. They were a bit more adult.

Egora · 31/05/2020 10:15

Hold on wasnt Todd Elizabeth's bf?

Flackattack · 31/05/2020 10:16

I LOVED these books - all of them!
I was so excited when I went to America and got a new one about the evil twin.
I used to have a book so I could write down the numbers and ones I’ve read - I was super cool! They all had the first same pages - must have saved the author loads of time!

Jessica can’t end up wit. Todd - I actually gasped!

The unicorn club was my favourite! Found some in a second hand shop when I was about 12 and I don’t think I’ve ever been that happy again!

I assume being America their perfect size 6 figures are size 10 - but given the growth of sizes and how perfect they were probably more like uk 6!

Didn’t realise I was still obsessed !

Flackattack · 31/05/2020 10:22

IVe just read the double love blog - Christ those books are hideous and dated!

It’s amazing anyone can come out with a normal relationship having read those!!!

@Fudgewhizz

Penny??

TwiceAsNice22 · 31/05/2020 10:44

I loved Sweet valley twins and Sweet valley high as a kid! I kept all my old books and I recently found a bunch of sweet valley kids books at a secondhand shop.

I can’t wait for my daughters to read them. I have 5 year old identical twin daughters Smile. I did try reading the Sweet Valley Kids books to them, but they are still a bit young for them. They did like that the characters are twins like them and look like them though.

Peggy!

niki26 · 31/05/2020 10:53

Steven Wakefield ends up married to ....Aaron Dallas!!!! I did not see that coming!

Luaa · 31/05/2020 10:55

I also thought it was "look back down in a crowdedhall"

I'm signing up to kindle unlimited today, I loved these books!

Also, I'm way more excited than any 35 year old should be at a new babysitters club tv series!

x2boys · 31/05/2020 11:02

Didn't their brother,Stevan,s girlfriend have leukaemia o r something equally tragic ? And I think she had turned her life around from being a drinking ,drug taking floozy ?Or maybe that was EnidConfused I remember being very impressed with their lifestyle and wanting to go t Sweet Valley High for my education ,rather than my somewhat dull comprehensive school in the North West of EnglandHmm

mummyh2016 · 31/05/2020 11:02

Thank you so much for posting this! Just signed up for kindle unlimited!

GallusAlice79 · 31/05/2020 11:02

@Fudgewhizz

Or Olivia?

Fudgewhizz · 31/05/2020 11:19

Oh wait, I'm getting mixed up! Enid was in both book and TV series. It was Manny (her bf) who was in the TV series but not the book.

Fudgewhizz · 31/05/2020 11:26

I wonder what became of this...? www.vogue.com/article/sweet-valley-high-movie

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 31/05/2020 11:28

Aww poor Olivia 🙁 though I think she came back in another of the book series..death doesnt stick.. not does blindness or being paralysed.

isabellerossignol · 31/05/2020 11:33

I also remember being Shock that they were 16 and could drive Grin

I'm sure the books used to mention Jessica's red spider car. I had no idea what a spider car is, and 30 years later I am none the wiser.

frazzledfatty · 31/05/2020 11:40

I loved them, the TV series was dreadful but the actresses were perfect.

frazzledfatty · 31/05/2020 11:45

wow that's a cool car!

TitianaTitsling · 31/05/2020 11:54
Ok all together now!

🎶Look right down any crowded hall
You'll see there's a beauty standing
Is she really everywhere
Or a reflection?
One always calls out to you
The other's shy and quiet
Could there be two different girls
Who look the same at

Sweet Valley, Sweet Valley High
(Meet you at Sweet Valley)🎶

AmazingBouncingFerret · 31/05/2020 11:56

I didn’t realise Elizabeth ended up with Bruce. Must have been awkward for their parents considering her mum Alice walked out on his Dad at the altar because she was in love with Ned.

bookmum08 · 31/05/2020 11:57

Apparently Francine Pascal wasn't overly impressed with the TV series. I didn't like the 10 years later book. I would of prefered it if it had been more based on how old they would be now going by being age 16 when the first book came out. If I remember correctly book 1 was 1984 so the twins would of been born in 1968. So now they would be 52 !!!. The sequel book came out about 10 years ago so Jessica and Elizabeth in their 40s would have been a much more interesting read.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 31/05/2020 11:59

I remember when they announced the tv series was coming, I was so excited but after reading the books since I was very young I ended up being really disappointed!

bookmum08 · 31/05/2020 12:00

I actually prefered the Sweet Valley Twins books (the ones in Middle School). I found it hard to cross over to SVH as several character personalities were different or major events that happened at middle school were never mentioned. Major characters just disappeared (where did Amy go? Was she in SVH?)
