My 80 something neighbour is getting increasingly scared. I am getting all her shopping and she only goes for walks early in the morning so as not to see people. She rang me today to told me of her daughter sowing and going for a walk though so that is good.

It's not so much from here though it is her family who are in one of the southern EU countries who has scared her a lot. Told her not to go out at all. She wants to keep them happy.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 18:16

Apparently out of the children going back here it is mainly more wealthy homes choosing to send theirs back. The poorer homes less so Sad

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 18:17

Not the dementors saying that but surveys of the general population. In the 'i' today

Bollss · 18/05/2020 18:19

That doesn't surprise me at all orange sadly enough.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 18:22

@Mascotte lol sorry I totally misunderstood your post! Sadly I think it is clear that I'm somewhat frustrated desperate. And can't even rely on my partner for that because he's got a few err problems in that area at the moment.

Off to google whether the good prof is single and whether he'd be up for a no strings shag.........

BrightYellowDaffodil · 18/05/2020 18:23

The dementors are keeping very quiet.

Expecto patronum! Grin

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 18:23

*niholoxica - ok. The voice. I get the voice.

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 18:25

Excuse me, that's my boyfriend you're talking about.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 18:27

And yes, re the VE Day killer conga lines! Is it my imagination or are the BBC not making a thing of it? Same with LBC which I have on in the background between calls - and is being strangely dementorish at the moment. Are we living in a parallel world I wonder?

but then considering my strange dream my mind is not working correctly anymore!

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 18:28

Leighhalfpenny

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 18:28

I don't him as a boyfriend! I've got one of those and he's enough trouble. Just a shag. To see what he'd be like.....keen, I'm thinking 🤣😁

@Leighhalfpennysthigh

It certainly seems to be harder to find the stats - they often seem to be buried in the live feed rather than blarted as a headline.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 18:29

❤️

Cooroo · 18/05/2020 18:35

I swear my stress levels went down as I skimmed this thread! Thank you.

I'm social distancing like a good 'un but luckily that hasn't stopped me and DP riding mountain bikes lots in the past 2 months so I'm actually getting fit for once!

Gives him another virus to study!!

Yes, you're right about the BBC and the trailing thingy. With only 160 deaths we should be celebrating. Would love to see the faces of the dementors. I swear some of them were salivating at the thought of a spike and harsher lockdown.

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 18:40

It's definitely strange that since the numbers have come down massively we don't hear about them so much.

It's almost as if there is a bias in favour of broadcasting big scary numbers.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 18:44

Exactly. It's like the media we're enjoying the drama of nearly 1000 people dying each day. My local news still won't admit that there are practically no people with covid in our local hospitals, let alone that whole wards are empty. I guess it's easy news isn't it? Saves them the hassle of having to go out and find stories.

Bollss · 18/05/2020 18:46

160 is a huge drop from the peak isn't it? Why is this not headline news?

psychomath · 18/05/2020 18:46

Have any other school folks heard of Edapt? They're an alternative to a union that seems to be basically legal insurance - you pay a monthly fee and get referred to a solicitor if you're having any employment issues. No strikes etc. After all this I'm thinking of leaving the NEU (only school-specific one I can currently be in) to join them, but not sure whether they're any good.

psychomath · 18/05/2020 18:48

TrustTheGeneGenie I got a notification on my phone to say it was the lowest number of deaths since some date (the headline cut off, but it was in March). Deaths are underreported over the weekend and on Mondays though so the 160 figure is probably a bit lower than the actual number. But still good news of course.

Bollss · 18/05/2020 18:53

Oh that's good! I do feel a bit like there's a light at the end of the tunnel now.. maybe... Possibly!!

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 18:54

160 is a huge drop from the peak isn't it? Why is this not headline news?

It's a MASSIVE drop up to the 27th April they were only tracking hospital deaths.

After that point they added in care home deaths.

The hospital deaths numbers now are lower again, if we had continued to track those numbers it would be even more obvious that we are over a month past the peak.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/05/2020 19:00

I think that it does take a few days for the data to filter through, but yes, a big drop. Even accounting for the weekend thing - it's been mich higher than that on a Monday before.

Also fits with the narrative from some staff on covid wards that they have no/few patients left and what my trusts are saying about having empty wards and no covid patients and standing down their ICCs. I remember a thread a few weeks ago saying that hospitals were empty and lots of people jumping on that to disagree. Now they are very quiet.

Hmm, wonder what my new crush makes of it all? 😉

Hope in a vial.

Happy dance! I'll take any good news I can get...Smile! I'm not a praying person, normally, but I'll be offering a few up for this...Maybe my DM and DGMIL (both complete saints) can pull a few strings.
Personally, I think things are looking up.
