Do you have a milkman/woman?

I'd always bought milk from the supermarket or local shops if I was running low but when Covid hit and I couldn't get an online delivery, I signed up with the local dairy. It's been great. They only deliver three times a week whereas it was daily when I was a child. They sell milks, cream, eggs, juice and another local dairy also does bread.

I'd have never done this if it wasn't for covid and it's got me wondering if others have done the same?

No one? I thought they had become a bit of a thing again in recent years?

I got one too about a month and a half ago. Yes it's more expensive than Tesco but it's so handy!

We've had a milk delivery for years. It's great.

BillyAndTheSillies · 18/05/2020 18:48

Similar to you we set up a delivery when the supermarkets started going haywire.

We have a weekly delivery on a Monday of milk, apple juice, bread, local sausages and randomly hot cross buns.

Our local milkman is a bit of a legend, to the point he turns on the town Christmas lights!

We will keep it up once this is all over. The dairy sells loads, down to nut milks, jams, eggs, loads of different bread. It's really handy!

WendyHoused · 18/05/2020 18:51

It's been 4 years since we started with the milk deliveries. I love it - they work with an other local dairy for butter and yogurt too. It's a family farm that's been delivering around here for 4 generations.

I love quality of it all and I love supporting a local independent business.

irregularegular · 18/05/2020 18:52

Yes we've had milk delivered for years.
Only since Covid have we had more than just milk delivered though. He even delivered a big bag of potting compost last week!

Weekday28 · 18/05/2020 18:53

Yes we do. We have oat milk and orange juice delivered on a Thursday, I love it!

Zelda93 · 18/05/2020 18:53

Rebelwithallthecause · 18/05/2020 18:54

Yes, our milkman comes 3 times a week

bellinisurge · 18/05/2020 18:57

I've had one for about a year. He also delivers us eggs. We could get some other bits from him too if we wanted.

Purpleorange1 · 18/05/2020 18:58

We got deliveries from the local milkman during lockdown. The kids absolutely love it. Picking the bottles up on a Monday morning and then leaving them out on Thursday night for Friday's delivery. It reminds of my childhood, we use to get orange juice in the glass bottles and eggs too. It's more expensive than the supermarkets but we love it!
It's a shame he doesn't do eggs, bread, butter etc but then again we buy our eggs from a neighbour who keeps chickens and ducks.
We will definitely keep the deliveries after lockdown.

wowfudge · 18/05/2020 19:00

Yes - I contacted the local dairy when the supermarket shelves were devoid of milk. They also deliver fruit juice, eggs and cream. I've never seen the guy who delivers and I email the farmer direct to order extras. We also have a neighbour who has chickens and sells their surplus eggs with an honesty box for the money.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/05/2020 19:00

I’ve had mine for about 10 years. Used to have quite a few pints a week but then kids left and now at uni so cut the order right down more to keep our milkman employed if I’m honest. Then Covid hit the world and never was I more glad to have kept the order going, such a good move.

Raera · 18/05/2020 19:03

Yes, had one all our married life in different houses/areas.
Delivers Mon/We/Friday in glass bottles.
More expensive but so eco friendly

TreacherousPissFlap · 18/05/2020 19:15

Ours comes 3 times a week and still delivers in glass bottles. The only issue is that he buys the milk in so it's not local.

The farm at the end of the village has just got a mile vending machine to sell milk from their own herd, so I'm a bit conflicted now Confused

QuidcoQueen · 18/05/2020 19:17

I've always had a milk delivery. My parents had one and when I moved away I got one. I top up at the supermarket occasionally bit it's so handy.

ParkheadParadise · 18/05/2020 19:18

Yes, I've had milk delivered for years. He also delivers orange juice and eggs.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 18/05/2020 19:23

Our milkman is a real grumpy bastard and he's always late. I leave extra-cheerful notes for him with smiley faces.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 18/05/2020 19:26

Yeah we do, glass bottles of milk and OJ and fresh farmyard eggs for not much more than the supermarket, well worth it!

Biancadelrioisback · 18/05/2020 19:29

Nope because it's too expensive

TheProvincialLady · 18/05/2020 19:31

Yes we get our milk delivered in glass bottles and have done for a couple of years since I did a plastic free lent challenge. It has been extremely handy during lock down.

zafferana · 18/05/2020 19:31

Yes we have milk delivery - we've had it for about 18 months now. I love it!

Poshjock · 18/05/2020 19:34

I have had milk delivery for over a year now. I was doorstepped by the sales team and I was happy to sign up because I wanted to return to glass reusable. We only drink a small amount of milk so the increase in cost is negligible. At the start of lockdown I added orange and eggs to the order. The company paused new customers and the addition of eggs to orders shortly after due to overwhelming demand - so I was very glad I was an existing customer at this point. I am very happy with the service and glad I signed up.

SudokuBook · 18/05/2020 19:34

Yes, I got it to cut down on plastic waste. Every little helps
