Mine is Sandie Shaw. I can't believe it had never occurred to me until tonight that her name is a play on Sandy Shore.

Oh, and speaking of Ian Flemming, it always tickles me that he wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well as the James Bond books.

synthony · 10/05/2020 06:45

Really the passport? What about Scottish Isles and NI?

totallyyesno · 10/05/2020 06:48

I didn't know Puerto Rico was a US territory til quite recently and that they have American citizenship.
Tbf Trump didn't know this either. Hence his comment about meeting the president of Puerto Rico (himself).Grin

Yes dandelion comes from dent de lion in French. But the French do not call them dandelions. Do you know the French name?

totallyyesno · 10/05/2020 06:49

Pisse en lit? I know they're meant to make you wee!

That my cordless Dyson attachments actually can fit onto the holder that screws onto the wall Shock

Completely misses point of thread...

I'm always amused by the Hawaii one, and usually ask people why they thought Japan attacked Pearl Harbour and no reinforcements came if it was so near the mainland USA.

I did astound someone in a pub a few years age who said Australia was about the dsame size as Miami, I said it was about the same size as the US mainland, he looked it up, the US is about 100 miles costa to coast larger than Australia.

Along the lines of kippers, scampy isn't a type of fish either, it can be one of several types. And who ever asked, kippers are abit marmite, I love them just with bread and butter.

So we have done Portsmouth, the channel tunnel how about, most of the London underground is above ground and that the lines are at different depths so you could be on a train in a tunnel and underneath there is another train crossing your line but much deeper.

Oh and the 'map' of the underground isn't a map, if you end up at the wrong end of the Northern line at Golders Green you can take a bus to Finchley in about 10 mins, you don't need to go all the way to Camden and swap. One of my Flatmates, who had been living in London for 5+ years, and was moving from one spur of the Norther line had been travelling via Camden for about a week before I told him about the buses.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends Alaska isn't an Island, although it might look like it on your map.

DappledThings · 10/05/2020 07:07

I'm from Portsmouth and I promise this wasn't me but a friend's nan who had lived there all her life, was convinced that too go to the Isle of Wight she needed her passport and took it religiously every time

A friend of mine had just come home from the Isle of Wight festival. Another friend of ours asked her what side of the road they drive on "over there".

You can freeze milk ..... a lock down revelation to me. Who knew??

Deathraystare · 10/05/2020 07:17

I did not realise until about 3 years ago that the fantastic hit 'This Flight Tonight' by Nazareth was written by J.oni Mitchell!! Her version is rubbish. Doesn;t have Manny's fantastic guitar sound and she has a very reedy shrill voice.

I played the single to death. Noticed it was written by J.Mitchell but did not click!

My friend played the original and I hated it!

returnofthemollymawks · 10/05/2020 07:17

You can freeze milk but open it and let some out of the bottle first. It will also separate.

Waiting for Gibraltar to be mentioned.

synthony · 10/05/2020 07:22

... I thought you needed a passport to board a ferry Blush

totallyyesno · 10/05/2020 07:22

I knew where Hawaii was but for a long time I thought the Philippines were somewhere else!

Veronicat · 10/05/2020 07:28

I'll admit I never knew there was a county called Rutland in England until the last thread like this on here.

DreamingofSunshine · 10/05/2020 07:29

I didn't know about dandelions but I did know about Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the channel tunnel, the size of Australia.

Never knew about Ian Fleming writing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

Heismyopendoor · 10/05/2020 07:30

@VerticalHorizon I’ve just looked on google maps and Cardiff is much further west than Edinburgh? Not the other way around? Am I missing something?

BeyOnceBeyTwice · 10/05/2020 07:32

Birds can poo when they're flying, they don't have to be sitting down! 🤯😂

Deathraystare · 10/05/2020 07:36

Never knew about Ian Fleming writing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

StirCrazy2020 · 10/05/2020 07:39

Never mind milk, that's obvious! You can freeze cheese!

Hairydilemma · 10/05/2020 07:43

It only occurred to me a couple of years ago that the Beatles are spelt like that and not Beetles because it has the word ‘beat’ in.

At least, I realised it had ‘beat’ in and assumed that was why - nobody actually told me it was intentional. Maybe they just couldn’t spell.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 10/05/2020 07:45

Shit, I didn't know about Hawaii, and even more Blush I didnt know Pearl Harbor was in Hawaii and I studied it at A level!

Heismyopendoor · 10/05/2020 07:45

You can freeze milk, cheese, soft cheese, Butter cold cuts/sandwich meat/cold meat/what you call it, you can even freeze sour cream (although I would only use the sour cream and soft cheese in a recipe as the texture changes a little). You can also freeze bread, bagels, tortillas, whole sandwiches!
