Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

I'm going to have to look...

heroku · 09/05/2020 10:13

Do they really think people in other countries are sitting down, scouring the internet for news about the UK?

Funnily enough I have actually had "is everything ok??" messages from a friend in South Africa and one in Kenya as they've obviously seen some news story about the UK being in total meltdown. I thought it was rather ironic given the way the British press always reports African news.

CaliforniaMountainSnake · 09/05/2020 10:14

I really wish they'd do something to let kids out. Allowed to see friends, play football. There appears to be no risk from this although I was called a child murderer

I would really like the playgrounds to open at least. They won't get that busy anyway because so many people are locked away in their bunkers wetting their pants.

Dialdownthedrama · 09/05/2020 10:16

There's some very strange maths going on. On another thread a very cross person who compares CV with ebola is doing sums about how everyone will end up knowing someone killed by CV because 'we all know that everyone knows at least 1,000 other people' Confused

HauntedGoatFart · 09/05/2020 10:17

I went to the street VE day party yesterday and it was like oxygen after the air's been getting thinner and thinner for weeks. Sensible, friendly people who knew our chances of spreading something outdoors were negligible, nice chats, pats of friendly dogs, cake. It did me and mine the world of good.

I think there's also an element of deducing the seriousness of the virus from their own actions going on in the populace and particularly the dementors. (This happens in human psychology more often than you'd think and is one reason divorces nearly always turn contentious... If you're divorcing someone, i.e. doing something that is upsetting and saddening them, they must have done something to deserve it: the reasoning ends up being "I'm divorcing them, therefore they must be horrible and mean" rather than "They're horrible and mean and so I'm divorcing them"). We are essentially on lockdown to protect the small very vulnerable segment of the population, but I think people have got stuck in "I am staying in, therefore the virus will kill ME, else why would I have changed my behaviour?"

lol yes!

My Swedish friend has been asking me if I'm ok, but more in a general "how are you guys coping way" but she certainly doesnt think the UK is a "laughing stock". Ive just asked her what the Swedish public think of them not locking down so it will be interesting to see what she says!

Mascotte · 09/05/2020 10:26

Oh, outrageous. There was a cake stall in the street... murdering bakers!

It's like an episode of Midsomer Murders over on that thread.

Mascotte · 09/05/2020 10:26

I mean the bakers are murderers.. I don't think anyone murdered them 😃

PopcornAndWine · 09/05/2020 10:29

Here in Ireland I have spotted a particular type - the Pub Dementor. There was a news story the other day about how if pubs have to remain closed until next year then up to 60% will shut permanently. All the commentary was along the lines of "OMG, is that all people care about, when they can next have a pint?"

Pubs aren't just places for people to get pissed in, they're places people go to eat, to socialise, to watch sport, listen to music etc etc. They are a huge part of our culture and they employ thousands of people.

But if you dare express a shred of sadness that so many will close down, not to mention sympathy for the people that will lose their livelihoods then it's "HOW CAN YOU CARE ABOUT GETTING DRUNK WHEN PEOPLE ARE DYING, WHAT ARE YOU AN ALCOHOLIC???"

Personally I can't wait to have a leisurely Sunday afternoon pint again - assuming any pubs survive of course! Smile

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 10:33

@popcornandwine

yeah, those responses are particularly obnoxious.

The pub is a social hub for many people, including those who are retired and might otherwise spend all day alone. Its not wrong for people to wonder about those things. Its also unrealistic to expect people to think about death rates 24/7. Good grief- i'd be seriously depressed if i spent all day every day only thinking about death. Thats not a natural or functional way to live at all

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 10:35

People seem a lot angrier and overwrought today.

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 10:36

Daily reminder to myself... STAY OFF THE SCHOOL THREADS! Honestly I think I need to sit in a corner and write it 100 times.
Someone (a teacher) is advocating schools not going back until Covid is eradicated.

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 10:37

People seem a lot angrier and overwrought today

Either hungover from the street parties or exhausted from sitting looking out of the window moaning about people having street parties Wink

Bollss · 09/05/2020 10:39

Oh the school threads. Every single suggestion is met with a flat no. Just own it and say you'd rather stay at home.

GoldenOmber · 09/05/2020 10:41

Someone (a teacher) is advocating schools not going back until Covid is eradicated.

We didn't do that for polio and that actually IS very dangerous for children!

I want schools to open safely of course but once they go back, mine will be there. Ditto nursery. Am satisfied that the risk to my children is lower than the risk for flu, and I don't keep them off because flu exists. But I'm obviously going to have to print a few "Mummy Is Throwing Me To The Plague" T-shirts for them!

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 10:42

“A 6 week old baby dies with CV and I'm reading 'We're bored of lockdown it's OK to stop social distancing just look after yourself' comments.

For one moment imagine being the mother of that child.”

BarkandCheese · 09/05/2020 10:43

I stuck my nose into the VE Day thread and noped out at the self important comment “I want to know how many people who fought for our country have died of the virus”.

In contrast I just read all of the my child has lost it thread. No self important dementors, just post after post of parents reporting increasingly worrying behaviour from their young children. It’s one of the saddest and most concerning threads I’ve seen, children need to be with other children.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 10:44

Someone (a teacher) is advocating schools not going back until Covid is eradicated

If they want to do that- absolutely fine, they can stay indoors for the next 20 years. Tax payers wont be paying their salary though so I hope they have ALOT of savings!

Littlebelina · 09/05/2020 10:47

The school threads all go the same way no matter how they start.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2020 10:47

From the VE thread responding to a post about a child playing with friends.

That's fantastic. Well done you. Those kids could end up sleeping for a very very very long time in a few weeks

OutwardBound2016 · 09/05/2020 10:47

I have just reported a post, someone has told another poster that their DC will die, it’s unacceptable and Mumsnet should be shutting these people down.

Where is it? I will report too that is absolutely revolting. I wish MNHQ would stop this rubbish. Its vile.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2020 10:51

Is it the one I've hust posted because I've reported that one.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/05/2020 10:52

OutwardBound2016 · 09/05/2020 10:53
