I am going to lose my shit over these endless school threads.

My Year 6 DS is desperate to go back to school so he can see his friends before they all disappear off to secondary school in September and if they open up the schools then I'll willingly send him but my God, some of the hysterical nonsense on MN is grinding my gears at the moment.

The old 'school isn't childcare' chestnut keeps popping up over and over again. It's not about fucking childcare, it's about my DC mental health and learning.

BarkandCheese · 07/05/2020 15:51

My mum told me she heard an ice cream van the other day, went dashing out all excited to get a 99, then got outside and found it was actually someone’s ringtone.

ChainsawBear · 07/05/2020 15:53

I can hear an ice cream van outside my window right now! There was also one serving parked outside the gates of the London park I was walking through yesterday.

...now I'm hungry.

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 16:28

I have a year 6 as well Sally and also a year 10 due for GCSEs next year...my yr 6 also same as yours..

Just had an email form the school 'trust' telling us they are trying to make face shields on the 3D printer and have bought thousands of of hand sanitiser; saying they have had no news from gov but have been asked their thoughts...all very vague

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 16:30

*Sky have just reported that any easing on Monday will be 'very limited.'

So the dementors will be delighted. Good times for them*

Yes, it seems they are going to have to encourage us to be outside rather than being at home to start with. That it is ok to be safe outside. Hmm

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 16:33

However DH had an email today saying his work is planning on opening on Monday (manufacturing).

amicissimma · 07/05/2020 16:34

I stumbled over a FB post allegedly from a distressed nurse who'd spent a whole shift taking bodies to a makeshift mortuary in full PPE on one of the hot days we had a while ago. As I know someone who works in the hospital named I was horrified and, when they came out, looked up the numbers of deaths in the relevant period.

  1. In a week. In the whole trust, which is at least two general hospitals.

There was a sad day when my mum was in hospital, some years ago, when 3 people on her ward died on the same day, but there was no drama. So I doubt that 5 deaths in a week between two hospitals is that remarkable.

I have every sympathy with everyone working in the NHS at the moment and I know a number of HCPs involved with Covid patients, but I really don't think that sort of thing on FB helps. (FWIW some of the HCPs I've mentioned it to agree.)

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 16:56

Somewhat heartened to see someone posting about the mental health impacts of the lockdown getting supportive posts on MH rather than just being told to suck it up. Maybe things are changing. I hope.

LilacTree1 · 07/05/2020 16:57

Ami - did that nurse post under a real name?

More people in general worried about their mental health than physical www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52574606

Orangeblossom78 · 07/05/2020 17:13

Wonder of it is making up stories to get attention or shock people do you think? are they pretending to be e.g. nurses or know them?

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 07/05/2020 17:24

Just found you all! Today, in the adventures of the elderly rebel, my father went for a walk and managed to find a stray open coffee shop so sat in the sun for a whole hour and drunk his coffee and ate some cake.

And I'm seriously wondering if I can get away with a mad dash up the motorway to my partner without being stopped.....part of it is on the M5 and I've heard they're turning people away/got roadblocks?

Willow2017 · 07/05/2020 17:33

Judging by some of the "I am a HCP" posts on here who talk absolute bollocks I am sure they post just for the attention and to hope someone will belive them and fawn over them

iamapixie · 07/05/2020 17:36

Amicissima I have heard the same doubts about those stories - there are so many of them - from HCPs. The ones I know have been very busy mostly (though one has had hardly any work for weeks due to all the cancellations). The dangers of social media... I am very cynical and think that even if there were some truth to some of them, they are designed to dramatise and attention-seek, not to 'educate'.

iamapixie · 07/05/2020 17:41

But don't listen to me - I think I've just demented someone. Went running and did some jogging on the spot to allow a bloke and his kid to walk through a narrow path. (so much hatred of runners; I'm trying really hard not to stoke the vitriol) He waved me through and said 'don't worry; so unlikely you'll catch it outdoors'. And the look in his eyes was the same mix of hopelessness and frustration, with a little bit of 'christ, how mad are you' that I feel when I venture on to the dementor threads. Poor man.

RumbaswithPumbaas · 07/05/2020 17:50

Anyone found that international weather thing on sky at the end of the press conference makes you want to go everywhere (or regret that we didn’t before being locked down until 2050)?

RumbaswithPumbaas · 07/05/2020 17:51

(According to the dementors)

Daffodil101 · 07/05/2020 17:53

Love this!

Dialdownthedrama · 07/05/2020 17:56

Nurses don't spend days taking bodies to the morgue. Porters do that.

People don't realise just what an impact it has when HCPs (or claimed HCPs) say something on SM.

And how some people think what one NHS worker says, means that's happening everywhere.

The dementors seize it and use it to their advantage. Did you not see that nurse crying on FB about how tired she is? THAT'S why you shouldn't eat crisps on a bench.

The nurse crying in her car about people panic buying directly contributed to NHS priority slots and a lot of NHS freebies which went OTT.

Mascotte · 07/05/2020 18:00

My neighbours get the NHS priority spots but can't buy drink then so their old dad buys it for them and drops it off 😂😂

MagdaS · 07/05/2020 18:00

The maternity leave thread is an absolute joy. Obviously no one has heard of PND Hmm

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 07/05/2020 18:05

I start reading other threads. Think wtf the world is going mad and come back on here. It really is like a parallel universe. I spend ,y days working with the NHS to get things back to normal and come on here and the hysteria is still sky high.

I'm a HCP btw and talking bollocks on and off the internet is a particular talent of mine 😁

Mascotte · 07/05/2020 18:20

@MagdaS those people are awful... oh my god. A new mother on mumsnet getting pelters..

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/05/2020 18:25

Ooh, not content with dementing about people flouting rules I give you... ‘flagrantly flouting’. Spotted on a thread just now.
