When do you think we'll actually be able to buy flour and yeast again?

I didn't stockpile. I wish I had now! Can't find it anywhere!
Has anyone found any?

Where do you live? If you need small amounts, try local corner shops etc not supermarkets. If larger amounts try wholesalers.
I made sourdough starter so I wouldn't have to worry about running out of yeast. You will need flour though!

AudTheDeepMinded · 29/04/2020 14:25

Freely available in most usual shops where I live now. Where do you live?

EatsShootsAndRuns · 29/04/2020 14:28

I had flour delivered today from Asda along with eggs both of which have not been available the last few weeks so I'm really pleased!

getyoursocksoffhoney · 29/04/2020 14:29

I can't get either in supermarkets but for flour I've been nipping to the corner shop opposite my house, it's a 'best one' and he's overrun with the stuff.
I asked him why he had so much and he said he bought extra because he knew people were struggling to get it and his supplier had plenty, but he's now realised people won't be thinking of going to his shop to buy it Grin I told him to put a sign outside but if he starts running out because of said sign then he has to keep some behind the counter for me!!

Daisycow667 · 29/04/2020 14:30

Oh really? Maybe it's just my area haha I've asked everywhere and even small shops. Nowhere has it. They say their stocks come from Italy and it's on hold.. don't know whether I believe that!

SW London - just got some in Waitrose!

Kahlua4me · 29/04/2020 14:33

We have all types of flour in the shops near us but no yeast. However some of the wholesalers are nor selling to the general public so worth looking to see if one of them is near you. The one near us is selling it in smaller bags but you do need to buy 5 bags at a time.

ACupOfCoffee · 29/04/2020 14:34

Try asking in a bakers if you have one locally. My local bakers has started selling 1kg bags of strong white and wholemeal bread flour.

KittenVsBox · 29/04/2020 14:36

I got plain flour (no strong flour tho) this morning for the first time since the panic buying started. There wasnt any sugar on the shelves today, however...... Didnt look for yeast.

Daisycow667 · 29/04/2020 14:39

This is interesting! Im in the Midlands and cannot find any anywhere!

We seem to have flour and yeast locally now but no baking powder

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/04/2020 14:53

Got some from the farm shop today. No yeast though, I luckily still have some from before the rush.

ifonly4 · 29/04/2020 14:54

DD works in Co-op, she reckons they've got plain and self raising in now.

highlandcoo · 29/04/2020 14:57

You can still buy flour in sacks if you have a mill anywhere local. I bought a 16 kilo sack and shared it with a group of friends.

The problem is not lack of flour itself but of the capacity to package it in small bags.

At the moment I'm experimenting with making yeast using raisins and sugar. I haven't made bread with it yet though.

I have a windmill just around the corner from me! An actual, real life, working city windmill that makes its own flour Smile its been a labor of love for a group of conservation volunteers who sell it on a Sat and Sun morning from the doorway.

Its wonderful and yes, I totally know how lucky I am.

It’s a bit hit and miss. I’ve bought flour recently in both a major supermarket and local small supermarket but each time it was nearly the last packet on the shelf. Interestingly in Sainsbury’s there were a couple of bags that had slightly ripped so no one wanted them, I thought I might take a roll of cello tape in my pocket next time so I could buy one!

getyoursocksoffhoney · 29/04/2020 15:03

You could also try local cafes too OP, a couple in my town have been opening on a Saturday to sell flour as they are able to get it

worldsworststepfordwife · 29/04/2020 15:04

Absolutely nothing in the NE shelves as bare as they were a month ago in Morrison and Sainsburys

GlomOfNit · 29/04/2020 15:05

Definitely try small independent convenience shops rather than larger places. I couldn't find any for weeks until a local village shop started stocking it - it's from a catering supplier but the bags are standard size, apart from the large 3.5 kg bags of bread mix, which contain yeast too. They also do large catering packs of instant yeast, which I've been sharing around because there's no way I'll use it before it goes inactive. our little local Co-op now has flour from that producer too - I think smaller shops are able to be a lot more flexible with their suppliers and can shop around.

PerplexingWords · 29/04/2020 15:06

We just discovered that our corner newsagent is getting regular supplies from the local bakery. They are bagging it up in 1kg bags and have three or four different types. I was so chuffed. Off to use the first lot now!

Redcrayons · 29/04/2020 15:07

I haven’t seen any for weeks. Pasta is only just starting to make it back into the shelves here as well

I think at least 3/4 weeks before you can reliably find some.

vanillandhoney · 29/04/2020 15:09

I'm in Cumbria and there's plenty here.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/04/2020 15:09

I'm in the South West. We haven't been able to get any flour since lockdown.

I ended up going to a zero waste shop (obviously had to drive there) and found they had self raising with they sold me two big scoops. They obviously get those massive bags from the mills etc. They'd run out of plain flour though. I'll try again soon,

I don't know what everyone is doing with all the flour! It's not like you need to buy a bag of flour every other day.

Last week we couldn't get any eggs at all.

Lolololololol · 29/04/2020 15:09

Our morrisons was selling it in the bags they put the sausage rolls in, I'm assuming it is from their own in store bakery stash? Didn't see yeast though.

SistemaAddict · 29/04/2020 15:19

Try your local health shop if you have one. I'm getting bread flour, self raising flour, and yeast from mine.
