When do you think we'll actually be able to buy flour and yeast again?

I didn't stockpile. I wish I had now! Can't find it anywhere!
Has anyone found any?

My local corner shop has never run out, in fact there's nothing I haven't been able to get at any point during lockdown in my local shops, just seems to be the big supermarkets that have stock issues.

LovingLola · 29/04/2020 15:21

My local Tesco, Aldi and Lidl have shelves groaning with flours and all sorts of baking products
I thought supply chains were back to normal

Sparticle · 29/04/2020 15:21

We've just bought two 16kg bags of white and wholemeal strong flour from a local catering company. Yeast is trickier but our village shop had some the other day which was lucky.

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2020 15:22

In West Yorkshire there are at least 2 wholesalers doing domestic sized, domestic deliveries, both of who had flour last time I looked (a couple of days ago).

Our paper shop got a sack from the cash n carry about 3 weeks ago, and is selling it in 100g bags. A local-ish bakery is also selling flour, and a commercial bakery has been selling flour, yeast and bread to the public for 2 hours a few times a week for about a month.

I got some from Tesco 2-3 weeks ago!!

I heard on R4 that it’s not flour production that is the problem, it’s the 1.5kg paper bags it’s sold in in supermarkets. Only about 3% of flour produced in the UK is sold to the domestic market. There’s plenty of flour, just not enough small bags!!

Dove’s Farm are selling a limited number of baking boxes online most days too.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 29/04/2020 15:22

Morrisons sell flour in paper bags.

Glendora · 29/04/2020 15:28

A lot of the farm shops around us are buying in bulk from wholesalers and re-bagging in 1kg portions to sell to customers. They have fresh yeast too. So we've managed to get some that way. But I'm going through so much (kids both eating lunch at home 7 days a week = a lot of sandwiches plus they love toast for a morning snack) so I just ordered a 16kg bag of white bread flour online.

WickedGoodDoge · 29/04/2020 15:29

There’s some plain flour (the expensive stuff £1.70kg!!!) where I am but self raising flour is next to impossible to find unless you happen to be in the right shop at the right time. I gave up and ordered a 16kg bag which I think will take me no more than 4 months to get through.

Have only seen yeast once, a few weeks ago, in Morrison’s.

bulliedintonamechange · 29/04/2020 15:29

I've bought some each time over been shopping. It must be pockets of stockpilers in certain areas. Could a friend try in another town / city and post? Bit drastic tho haha

caramac04 · 29/04/2020 15:33

I got 16kg of plain flour from Amazon, I’ve got baking powder so that’s fine. I’ve shared with DD.
I’ve got strong flour and yeast in stock, only enough for about 4 loaves but that’s ok.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 29/04/2020 15:35

Corner shops or restaurants (Some sell limited amount of groceries from their suppliers now, I buy eggs and flour from our local pub now )

Ask around on local FB

Ladyglitterfairydust · 29/04/2020 15:35

I’m in the northwest and I can’t get hold of any baking stuff locally, but I can usually get eggs.

Florencenotflo · 29/04/2020 15:37

My local bakers is selling flour and yeast and a lot cheaper than the supermarket! Apparently they do this all the time, I just didn't know!

Purpletoes · 29/04/2020 15:42

Amazon has big bags of 500g of yeast available I got some last week. Works out about the same price if you were buying sachets but more expensive than my 125g doves farm bags. Have just started a sourdough starter as well. More for weekend baking.
Have ordered wholesale bags of flour and sharing with friends

Ariela · 29/04/2020 15:44

I haven't had a problem buying anything in this lockdown. Admittedly I'm a farm shop & local butcher type customer, and I'm only going for my shopping once a week and have avoided supermarkets.

Daisycow667 · 29/04/2020 15:45

I literally have nothing like a mill or even a bakery near me. So unlucky! I think I'm just going to have to go without but the fact that you're all seeing stock, maybe it'll work its way to my area soon lol

Crimejunkie · 29/04/2020 15:47

I'm in SW London also and havent seen it on the shelves in weeks where I am.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 15:50

Apologies, it's The Sun but apparently you can get both from the bakery counter in Morrisons as they're breaking down their own commercial sized stock into domestic sized portions.

I've bought packaged fresh yeast from Morrisons during lockdown too - it's near the fresh pastry.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 29/04/2020 15:55

It’s been out of stock in most shops near me for weeks, but DH randomly got some plain flour in my corner shop when he went in immediately after they’d got a delivery, and I found some bread flour in Sainsbury’s last week - it’s just the luck of the draw whether you happen to go in soon after they’ve restocked. Keep looking. Our local bakery has a sign up saying “No we can’t sell you any flour or yeast, please don’t ask”

UserDeleted · 29/04/2020 15:55

I hadn't been able to find any either (outskirts of Edinburgh) yet my aunt managed to get hold of plain and self-raising the past few days. No idea how she managed it as we live on the same street. There's some back alley flour dealer. Grin

I didn’t need self raising yet I now have 4kg of the stuff! Cakes ahoy. 🍰 🧁 🎂

lifestooshort123 · 29/04/2020 16:22

No flour of any kind in our large sainsburys - hasnt had any for a while now - and no icing or brown sugar. Will have to get car out tomorrow as home-made cake has now become essential!

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2020 17:33

OP these guys will deliver flour nationwide there is a min order value of £40, but they have a wide selection of groceries]].

sluj · 29/04/2020 17:39

Flour and yeast have been hard to find until about 10 days ago. Then Tesco's instore bakery gave me some fresh yeast. No charge but you have to ask direct at the bakery counter.
However this morning Lidl had lots of flour and dried yeast in stock. It was like gold dust till this week

a12345b · 29/04/2020 17:43

Amazon has flour

NoWordForFluffy · 29/04/2020 17:49

I’m in the northwest and I can’t get hold of any baking stuff locally, but I can usually get eggs.

Snap in this part of the NW too. Eggs are generally OK, especially in Aldi.

Sparticle · 29/04/2020 19:56

If any of the NW people are within driving distance of J31A of the M6, PM me and I’ll tell you where we got our 16kg bags :)
