To ask wtf to do with tinned sardines?

judemom · 21/04/2020 17:32

I bought too much canned sardines in olive oil to prep for the lockdown.

DH dislikes sardines, so I now have to eat them all.

Any recipes or suggestions on how to eat them? On a salad? Can you cook them?

Either with salad or warmed up then put on toast I love them like that as a toasted sandwich.

notacooldad · 21/04/2020 17:39

Give them to my dad. He lives the smelly, slimey fuckers!!
😂🤑

notacooldad · 21/04/2020 17:40

Meant ' loves' them.

@Holothane

That's a great idea! So replace meat with warmed sardines in a sandwich? Sounds easy and healthy.

Mash them up with hummus or goats cheese and spread on naice toast.

sausagepastapot · 21/04/2020 17:41

I spread them on toast straight from the tin, smegging delicious.

Bloodymary · 21/04/2020 17:41

Yes, mashed up with mayo on toast is good.
Plenty of omega 3!

BirdieFriendReturns · 21/04/2020 17:41

Or add to spaghetti. Serve with warm buttered crusty bread.

This River Cottage sardine and potato bake is really nice:

Thank you for all the easy suggestions! I'm staring at the cupboard and I realised I purchase too many, and need to use them up!

mix them with mashed potato form into circles and fry them as fishcakes

midwesteaster · 21/04/2020 17:44

They are great with chili and garlic on spaghetti.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/04/2020 17:44

I was going to suggest the River Cottage one. It's lovely. I usually just have them on toast though.

judemom · 21/04/2020 17:45

Keep the suggestions coming! I'm now excited about eating them!

I drain them then have them with toast, salad cream and a couple of tomatoes in the side.

Notthecarwashagain · 21/04/2020 17:45

Jack Monroes' sardinesca is surprisingly lovely!

I was a bit urgh at the thought of it, but it was so nice, even DS liked it!

BeetrootRocks · 21/04/2020 17:45

Fancy sardines now Grin

Abraid2 · 21/04/2020 17:46

Bing them in food processor with butter, but if creme fraiche, dash of lemon juice and lots of pepper. Sardine pate. Lovely on toast and very good for you.

Notthecarwashagain · 21/04/2020 17:47

linky

BoswellsBollocks · 21/04/2020 17:48

Spread on your DH and feed to the tigers?

Dreamscomingtrue · 21/04/2020 17:49

I like them with rice in a pita bread. Or on a jacket potato with some baked beans and/or grated cheese.

Namesgonenow · 21/04/2020 17:52

Burn the lot! Ghastly smelly things!

PigletJohn · 21/04/2020 18:00

you can mix them into a sort of salade niçoise. ot the same but I like it.

Or grill them on a barbie or on toast (IME the toast will burn unless you crush them first). You can serve with a poached egg if you want.

Look at anchovy recipes and you can use the sardines instead.

Shouldbedoing · 21/04/2020 18:03

Grilled with a sprinkle of curry powder on them - old army cook.tip I heard - makes them more savoury and less fishy. On toast obviously!

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 21/04/2020 18:08

My son mixed them with rice and avocado as a snack. It was utterly revolting.
