Oh dear God my parcel is coming through Hermes...

Any guesses on when it might arrive? Will it even come to this house? Will they decide inside the bin is a safe spot?

I've had an email from them 'we've got your parcel and it's on it's way to you' but then when I enter that exact tracking number into the website they can't find it, so we're off to a nice typical Hermes start Grin

Wishing you luck! The last time we had a missing Yodel delivery it was finally located about 3 streets away in someone's garden waste bin. They are nothing if not creative with their crap delivery....

Melfish · 18/04/2020 10:42

Good luck! It's bin day here today (the collections are a day out due to the bank hol) so if you lived here they'd definitely bung it in the bin.

middleager · 18/04/2020 10:43

Ditto!
Mine contains my two children's birthday presents. Sad

Justmuddlingalong · 18/04/2020 10:45

it's on it's way to you taped to the back of a tortoise.

BearSoFair · 18/04/2020 10:46

Good luck middleager!

Luckily bin day was Thursday for us.

I should probably add I am of course grateful for the drivers being out delivering at all...but lets be honest, Hermes do have a bit of a shit reputation at the best of times!

My last delivery from them was epic Grin
They buzzed in, (I was out) into a secure hall. Wrote a card saying "signed by red bin" and pushed it under my door. Let themselves out the secure hall, ignoring my neighbours/understairs cupboard/postbox and deposited parcel in the bin
I'm not sure how that thought process worked

ArseholesOnToast · 18/04/2020 10:49

Last time I had a parcel with Hermes it didn’t show up on the specified date.

When I checked the tracking it said the driver couldn’t find my address and suggested I might want to put some notes to help them find it!

I wasn’t sure what to put as my house is clearly numbered and has been on my well-signposted street for over 100 years. I didn’t do anything.

My parcel turned up the next day for which I was very grateful! Bloody Hermes.

Sereneren · 18/04/2020 10:49

If it's any consolation I had a Hermes delivery yesterday. I had an email and a text to tell me it would be delivered, the driver knocked the door, put it on the doorstep then waited until I opened the door before driving off. You might be lucky.

dementedpixie · 18/04/2020 10:50

I've never had an issue with them tbh. Got a parcel via them last week

BearSoFair · 18/04/2020 10:50

ohffs66 One of our most recent dealings with Hermes was when they threw a large parcel for a house round the corner over our 6ft garden fence. They even cleared the bushes and had it land on the grass...but that isn't the time to show off your impressive throwing skills!

I've had 6 Hermes parcels in the last two weeks and they have all been fine. I just say where I want the parcel delivered online and they do that.

SureTry · 18/04/2020 10:51

Good luck! Mine was delayed with them for some unknown reason, now it's being returned to sender.

puptent · 18/04/2020 10:52

Ah, our Hermes guy is lovely. Has the same route so knows all our houses. Polite, on time, leaves the parcel exactly where you want it.

Yodel on the other hand....

LittleRa · 18/04/2020 10:54

I had a delivery yesterday- the delivery driver knocked on the front door, but it was locked and my DP had gone out for a walk with DD and taken his keys and I was faffing about trying to find mine for a few seconds then I went to the back door, walked around the side of the house to see the driver there. He said “I need to front door open to deliver it”, I said my parent has gone out for a walk with his keys and I can’t lay my hands on mine. He said “I need the front door open to deliver it”. I said I could show some ID? He asked how I’d got outside (?!) I said the back door, he said ok that’ll work and followed me round the side of the house and took his photo of the parcel on the doorstep of the back door with the door open Grin I then realised he’d meant he needed photo proof the parcel had been delivered to an open door, but the fact he was saying it had to be the front door was funny/confusing!

WarmSausageTea · 18/04/2020 10:54

So much depends on location and luck of the draw, I think. We have regular people for DPD, Hermes and Yodel, and all are great. It probably helps that we’re in a rural area, where there’s generally less staffing turnover.

Vallmo47 · 18/04/2020 10:54

Good luck, OP!

I’ve had the exact same situations but with Yodel. Yodel has been scary in our experience!

Frlrlrubert · 18/04/2020 10:55

On our last Hermes delivery the driver rang the bell and then HANDED me the parcel. Only every managed that when they aren't supposed to...

fairydustandpixies · 18/04/2020 10:56

Haha good luck OP! I'm still waiting for a birthday present from last August and a Christmas present from last year! I've got video of Hermes attempting to deliver but she never leaves a card and randomly leaves parcels in neighbouring roads. I asked her once and she swore blind it wasn't her, that she always leaves a card, she ran off when I pointed out the Ring doorbell! Nowadays I get a thud of the parcel being launched at my door, a knock (no more rings!!) and the sound of screeching tyres when I open the door! It's hilarious but at least she leaves them now and I'm very grateful for that 😁

AuntyClockWise · 18/04/2020 10:57

Our Hermes courier is fab! Think it very much depends on individual couriers rather than the company as a whole. Maybe they employ more people than other delivery companies and therefore have a higher percentage of rubbish couriers?

Rockbird · 18/04/2020 10:57

I'm expecting one any minute, have had a good few over the last weeks and every one has been absolutely fine. On time, left sensibly and everything.

TSSDNCOP · 18/04/2020 10:58

My guy is great, he usually comes at least once a week although in Dec DH did ask if we should invite him for Christmas as he was here so often Grin

DoubleTweenQueen · 18/04/2020 10:59

I think Hermes are a network of local people so it's luck of where you live and who does your area? We have Simon, who is fantastic. Can't fault him. We always get a message with a time window and never had anything go missing - including returns.

neverknewsomany · 18/04/2020 10:59

Another one with a nice Hermes delivery guy. Never had any issues with them tbh.

BearSoFair · 18/04/2020 10:59

We have two fab local DPD drivers, always hope a company will deliver with them! Hermes are usually poor but I do agree that Yodel are the worst. I won't order unless I'm absolutely desperate and there's no alternative if I know the courier will be Yodel.

I'd prefer Hermes over Royal Mail atm, they haven't delivered to my street in a week.
