My Father hasn't. Is it me or is that highly unusual?

I can’t recall ever seeing my mother wear a pair of jeans, she is a pretty stylish dresser (aged 87) bit doesn’t wear jeans. I have seen her a photo of her as a young girl in some sort of canvas dungarees Grin.

Not necessarily an age thing, my friend’s DM is over 90, fabulous figure and looks great in jeans.

daisypond · 06/04/2020 15:14

Yep. My mum. She’s 84.

MrsJoshNavidi · 06/04/2020 15:14

My mother hasn't - she is 87 though.

But she obviously hasn't always been 87 - I don't know why she never bought jeans when she was younger.

I never saw my father in jeans either, come to think of it. He's dead now, but was 10 years older, so would have been 97.

I guess they were both just too old when jeans became a thing.

Now you mention it, my dad has never worn jeans either. A woman I used to work with had never worn any type of trousers. I think it was a church thing.

PickAChew · 06/04/2020 15:15

My dad. Brown polyester slacks, all the way, though my mum has persuaded him to try chinos.

SoleBizzz · 06/04/2020 15:16

Jeans wasn't worn much pre 1960's? My Dad was 15 in 1960.

My (late 70s) mother bought her first pair of jeans when she was well into her sixties. She looks great in them.

AhComeOnNow · 06/04/2020 15:16

My 89 year old grandma. Scruffy gardening trousers yes, but never means.

AhComeOnNow · 06/04/2020 15:16

*jeans

MissisBee · 06/04/2020 15:18

My dad, he's 75. Mum didn't get a pair till she was well in her 60s but hasn't worn any for years. I don't think MIL has any either, but couldn't say about her younger days

DustyMaiden · 06/04/2020 15:18

I never liked jeans, they are stiff and uncomfortable. My DS doesn’t wear them either.

schnubbins · 06/04/2020 15:19

My dad aged 85 years has never ever worn a pair of jeans .We have tried since the 70's to get him to wear them but he refuses.I think he is stuck in the 70's actually .He is extremely loathe to try out anything new be it technology , gadgets.Hair Dryers cause baldness according to him.Hilarious!

SoleBizzz · 06/04/2020 15:19

I think they'd look great in jeans. Jeans are so nice now.

My mum, but my Nan wore them for fruit picking, potato ridling and so on. Dm would wear a cotton skirt?! Confused
My sd never does either, he favours the red trousers!

Oakmaiden · 06/04/2020 15:21

I don't remember my mum ever wearing jeans. She told me they were "workmen's clothes".

When I went to boarding school we were only allowed to wear blue cords if we wanted to wear trousers at weekends.

wibblewobblejiggle · 06/04/2020 15:21

Yes. My Nanna she’s 89.

HeffalumpsCantDance · 06/04/2020 15:22

DS. A lot of autistic individuals find jeans uncomfortable due to sensory issues. He wears chinos, track suit bottoms or cotton blends.

notangelinajolie · 06/04/2020 15:22

My dad.

haba · 06/04/2020 15:23

No-one in my family wears jeans, but only DS has never tried any on (he's 11).
DD had a pair that had been passed on by a friend, but never really wore them. DH hasn't worn them since his university pairs fell apart (probably twenty years ago), and I haven't had any for the last twenty years or so either.
We just find them uncomfortable, and I find them really cold in cold weather (which is about eight months of the year for me!).

We have chinos, joggers, leggings, flannels, cords etc- just warmer and more comfy.

DD and DS have Asperger's, I probably do too but not dx.

haba · 06/04/2020 15:25

Oh, and my father never ever wore jeans either, he'd be 86 now but died 18mo ago.
He was quite well-to-do though, and was a teenager before jeans were popularised.

zen1 · 06/04/2020 15:25

My parents (in their 70s/early 80s). I remember wanting them as a child but was not allowed any. However, have lived in them since 13.

ethelredonagoodday · 06/04/2020 15:29

My grandma. She's nearly 90 though.

Likefootball · 06/04/2020 15:32

I have never owned a pair of Jeans.
Just never thought of them as smart and never had a job where they would be approprate.
I am a 64 year old man and people look amazed if I tell them.

swampytiggaa · 06/04/2020 15:34

My mom. She’s nearly 91 tho. She’s never worn trousers either. My dad died in 1978 he never wore jeans.
