My Father hasn't. Is it me or is that highly unusual?

Me!

Flupibass · 06/04/2020 18:20

A friend of mine. She only ever wears dresses, no trousers of any sort, or skirts, just dresses. I think her husband preferred her in dresses and she was happy to oblige! She has many many dresses.

Bezalelle · 06/04/2020 18:23

Yes! I know some Orthodox Jewish women who have never even owned or worn trousers of any kind.

cortex10 · 06/04/2020 18:24

MIL 82 only started wearing 'slacks' a couple of years ago (never jeans) - before then it was always dress, tights and formal shoes.

DinosApple · 06/04/2020 18:26

My grandad never wore jeans. But he'd be 104 if he was still alive so pretty common for that generation I think!

My dad on the other hand considers himself somewhat of a trend seater. He swears he was an early adopter of the T shirt, when his aunty brought one back from the states in the 50s.

SunshineDays2019 · 06/04/2020 18:49

I'm in my 50s and I have never seen my mum in any trousers, and certainly not jeans! My dad has never worn jeans, just sensible trousers! Both in their 80s.

DelphiniumBlue · 06/04/2020 18:59

My mum, 80, has never worn jeans, although she does wear leggings or flowy/stretchy trousers.
I think it's a comfort thing, and also that as a very short round person, she thought jeans would not be flattering when she was younger.

I’m mid 30’s and I don’t wear jeans, I did have a pair when I was a teenager(Topshop ones that were the in thing) but I just don’t like them on me and prefer dresses.

OhTheRoses · 06/04/2020 19:08

DH is 58. He has never owned a pair of jeans, or sandals for that matter. He has some proper walking trainers for treks up the pyrenees, walking boots for snow and Ben Nevis. Deck shoes for summer and even some espadrilles. He also doesn't own a TShirt but does have polo shirts.

Moleskins, chinos, cords and grey flannels. He has some tailored shorts and has no compunction about wearing them with a tucked in shirt.

My mother doesn't wear jeans but does have leather trousers - she's 83. MIL wears jeans with an elasticated waist - not a good look.

My Grandma who would now be 108 couldn't get on with slacks or tights but was a fabulous horsewoman so did wear jodhpurs but only for riding/mucking out. She always wore a long line bra and girdle too. She often worked the farm in wellies and a skirt under which she wore stockings attached by her girdle!

Yes. My 18 year old daughter
Scared of buttons

SlatternIsTrying · 06/04/2020 19:20

My mum and my dad. Both in their 70s.

TheMostHappy · 06/04/2020 19:24

I never saw either of my grandmothers wear trousers let alone jeans. I remember one time my mums mum was showing us some holiday snaps and she had trousers on and I was scandalised - never saw it in person!

SylvanianFrenemies · 06/04/2020 19:33

Jacob Rees Mogg, I would guess. Though I don't know him.

My parents are late 70s and jeans are not a new thing for them.

motortroll · 06/04/2020 19:36

My dad too! Cords or chinos but not jeans. Even in the 70s his flares were cords!

LER83 · 06/04/2020 19:56

I had a boyfriend at uni who had never worn Jean's, I bought him his first pair! This was in about 2004, he was 18. He wore chinos and cords. He came from a very posh boarding school and I just think they weren't the 'in' clothing there.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/04/2020 20:03

My Mum is nearly 87 and lives in jeans or jeggings! She has worn them since forever.

Fluffymule · 06/04/2020 20:06

Neither of my Grandmothers. My maternal Grandmother never wore a pair of trousers in her life either, my paternal Grandmother occasionally wore a pair of 'casual slacks' to do housework in later years, but even that was rare.

I can't be sure of my Grandfather, but I've never seen him in them ever. He is another that still wears a shirt and tie everyday too.

ProtectAll · 06/04/2020 20:13

Non of my grandparents born between the wars ever wore denim. My DF (war baby) hasn’t that I recall, he wears casual trousers but cords and chinos though. But my DM and PIL all the same age wear denim. As do the rest of the generations although I have tended not too more recently as I have a problem with my nerves in my leg and stiff material exacerbates it, I wear lightweight denim or jean style trousers in other fabrics.

Patsypie · 06/04/2020 20:14

I know many people in their 20s who have never worn them!

MulticolourMophead · 06/04/2020 20:20

My dad hasn't. He was born at the end of the war, 3 months before my mum. Mum wore jeans a lot.

OxfordMum1983 · 06/04/2020 20:25

My gran. Died in 2019 aged 98.

scaryreading · 06/04/2020 21:01

My dgm but she hardly ever wore trousers. Saw her once in slacks in the 70s.

Df started to when he remarried.

BalloonSlayer · 06/04/2020 21:10

My Dad never wore jeans. My Mum (87) has done but only for gardening. She says that when she was young they were only ever worn by the roughest of manual workers (digging roads). I think they only became fashionable after she was too old to be fashionable.

A bit like me never wearing animal print because when I was young and trendy it was only worn by the likes of Bet Lynch and therefore I have always avoided it like the plague, no matter how fashionable it has occasionally become.

sonjadog · 06/04/2020 21:27

I probably haven't worn them for about 25 years. I had some as a teen, I think. I hardly ever wear trousers of any sort. Refused the wear them as a child and as an adult I still wear skirts and dresses about 90% of the time. I have recently discovered very wide culottes which kind of look like a skirt, but aren't. They are really comfy to wear and remove the need for tights. I am thinking of maybe trying out more of them.
