My Father hasn't. Is it me or is that highly unusual?

My mum who is 69, never has and I doubt she ever will now.

CMOTDibbler · 06/04/2020 15:38

My dad never did, preferring trousers from the feed merchants

Talcott2007 · 06/04/2020 15:40

My Gran is in her 90's and has never worn worn jeans - in fact I asked her about this recently because we were going through old photo albums and weirdly there is not one photo of her wearing trousers at all despite her sister only 18mth younger wearing them quite regularly. She says she never liked them and has maybe only worn them once or twice in her life!

Fatted · 06/04/2020 15:43

I was going to say my mum but I vaguely remember her having some denim look jeggings from BHS.

I can't remember my dad wearing any either. He's always in cords and chinos.

Ghostlyglow · 06/04/2020 15:44

My mother and father in law.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 06/04/2020 15:44

My father in law has never worn jeans - not once in his entire life.

He wears a shirt and trousers every single day even in a heatwave. He has never worn jeans or shorts. We have been on holiday to Spain with him and he wore long sleeved shirts ( occasionally rolled the sleeves up ) and long trousers everyday. He wore sandals with socks.

We once had a guest pass for the David Lloyd club we were members of at the time and he asked to use it. He turned up in his usual clothes but with trainers on. He would have been about 55 at the time. He got some funny looks but he is oblivious.

He is almost 80 now and my DH said he has never known him to dress in any other way.

Pondskimmer · 06/04/2020 15:48

Neither of my parents - mid-70s. Just wasn't an obvious thing to wear from either of their POV. I think they code very much as 'male work clothes' for my mother. She'd be baffled as to why someone would want to wear them unless they were about to spend all day on a combine harvester.

Also, a friend I got to know at Oxford, now in her late 40s -- from an impoverished gentry family, rather WWII aesthetic. (If you called by her rooms in afternoon (when is The Archers on, exactly?) she would be listening to The Archers with a glass of sherry and a biscuit.)

I have known her since the late 1990s and I have never seen her in trousers of any kind, apart from jodhpurs. She was once papped by the Daily Heil for a Dumb Oxford Toffs story in what was clearly a very slow news period, and when they rang her doorbell at 8 or 8.30 in the morning, she was fully dressed in a skirt and blouse, hair in a chignon, and wearing shoes. My mother, never owned a pair in her life and doesn't intend to start now. She was in her 60s before she wore trousers.

Talcott2007 · 06/04/2020 15:51

Oh and on the same theme my FIL (in his 60's) has never ever worn a pair of trainers he always wears proper leather shoes. On holiday. At the beach. Walking up a mountain. Going gardening. He does have some wellies though for it raining though!

Pondskimmer · 06/04/2020 15:51

On a related note - I have never, ever worn tracksuit bottoms, apart from on the rare occasions I didn't skive off PE classes at school. I think they should be reserved for athletic endeavour. .

JanMeyer · 06/04/2020 15:53

DS. A lot of autistic individuals find jeans uncomfortable due to sensory issues. He wears chinos, track suit bottoms or cotton blends.

Yeah, neither of my autistic brothers have ever worn jeans, the oldest lives in tracksuit bottoms and loose fitting joggers, he can't stand anything constrictive around his waist. School trousers were a big enough problem, forget about jeans.

tinytemper66 · 06/04/2020 15:54

My mum is b75 and has never worn or owned a pair of jeans!

Doyoumind · 06/04/2020 15:59

My parents (70s) have worn jeans lots. I can't think of anyone alive who hasn't worn them. If you are talking about women in their 80s and 90s I'm not surprised but anyone below 70 would be strange.

idlevice · 06/04/2020 16:02

I haven't worn blue denim jeans of any shade since the late 80s & my DP hasn't since the late 90s.

Moondust001 · 06/04/2020 16:02

I'm 62 and female and I have never worn jeans. I have never found them to look appropriate or comfortable. And I have worked in some unusually active roles, and have found other types of trousers more appropriate. I still wear trousers or leggings most of the time. Skirts and dresses are generally reserved for occasions and very warm days.

Shmithecat2 · 06/04/2020 16:04

My DH. He's never worn them. Summer - shorts. Winter - cargo trousers. Formal - suit. Informal - linen or chino type trousers.

I live in jeans.

Pinkarsedfly · 06/04/2020 16:05

My mum.

PerfidiousAlbion · 06/04/2020 16:05

My brother. He’s 62 and has always considered them ‘common’ but never actually uttered that word. I have a pair of pale grey motto jeans which he admires though. He just doesn't like blue jeans as he thinks they're too working class.

For the record, he’s from London; poor but very well educated. Parents in the civil service. Very well off now. Strange.

KonTikki · 06/04/2020 16:06

My dad - he's 98 now and I guess he wont be trying them out anytime soon !

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 06/04/2020 16:06

My parents would never wear jeans and don't like to see family wearing them. They were seen in the past as cheap, low quality clothing for labourers. As children they viewed us wearing jeans as a sign of them being unable to provide good quality clothing for us. They were ashamed when we chose to wear jeans and completely amazed I'd been stupid enough to have paid over £70 for a pair.

They have similar views on trainers, tracksuit bottoms.

Mangosocks · 06/04/2020 16:07

Me and dh! We pretty much live in tracksuits or shorts, I think I might have had a pair when I was younger but since a teenager none at all.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 06/04/2020 16:08

My dad in his 80's has never worn jeans...he owned his first pair of trainers when he was 81 I think, and had his first "pizza from a box" (Dominoes I think) last November....not a trendsetter my dad. Grin

Bluebooby · 06/04/2020 16:10

I haven't seen my mum in jeans since I was about 3. I've only seen it in photographs.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/04/2020 16:12

My XMIL. She'd be about 62/63 now. Usually she had a skirt and tights on (never opaques!) or what my nan called 'slacks'.
I'm autistic and I do wear jeans, but they have to have some stretch to them around the waist; all things do. I don't have any jogging pants though because they're 90s scally fashion. Grin

Lllot5 · 06/04/2020 16:15

I’m 56 I don’t think I’ve worn jeans for 30 years probably. I find them uncomfortable and stiff. Plus I don’t think they suit very many people tbh.
I have a photo of my now deceased ex fil on the beach in a collar and tie.
