My Father hasn't. Is it me or is that highly unusual?

My sister never wears them. She's in her late fifties, always wears tights and a skirt or a dress. No trousers at all. Bit like Joan Collins, she never wears jeans apparently Smile I on the other hand live in various jeans, although the jegging ones are so comfy. My dad wears jeans, he's 91. Mum never wore them. God knows how long he's had them! They're a bit flarey Smile

I have an elderly aunt who I don't think has ever worn trousers let alone jeans. At least not that I've ever seen

habibihabibi · 06/04/2020 16:21

My Granny (96 )has never owned trousers aside riding breeches when she was much younger.
My father (71) wears moleskin chinos or cords as casual attire and has never owned jeans.

FIL is 85 and wears a tie everyday. Jeans not on his radar either. I have only seen him without his tie once when he was in pjs in hospital.
They all tutt at sloppy dressing,
My own DC wear chinos instead of jeans actually.

My late grandmother (born in 1910) never wore a pair of trousers in her entire life, let alone jeans. She also never washed her own hair.

My dad never owned a pair of jeans, my mum bought a pair of black jeans in her seventies (having never worn them before) to wear on a ski trip.

User202004 · 06/04/2020 16:23

My Granny, she would be in her late 80s now.

PineappleDanish · 06/04/2020 16:25

My mum, who is 75. She never wore jeans when I was a small child, or growing up. She has some weird ideas about what is appropriate at certain ages - such as women over 35 have no business having long hair, and that jeans on anyone over about 30 are ridiculous.

She has been wearing comfortable cords and "slacks" for as long as I can remember.

lakeswimmer · 06/04/2020 16:31

My DM who's 89 - in fact I was commenting on this fact to DH the other day. I've also never seen my MIL in jeans - she's 80 and her style is very feminine - floaty skirts, scarves, full make-up.

My DF never wore jeans either - he would be 96 if still alive.

MysteryFrog · 06/04/2020 16:32

My granny never wore a pair of trousers, of any sort, in her life! She died in the 90s

woodlandwalker · 06/04/2020 16:38

My parents never wore jeans, they would be in their 90s now if alive. My mother said they were common and didn't like me wearing them.
For those who say they are uncomfortable or not warm, they modern ones with stretch are very comfortable and they are always warm. Nowadays I more often wear coloured jeans/jeggings. I find they fit my skinny legs much better than other trousers.

Doobigetta · 06/04/2020 16:56

Grandparents who were all born before 1920- goes without saying.
My dad is nearly 80 and is firmly of the opinion that jeans are for plebs. He favours those baggy, chunky cord trousers for casual dress in winter and farrah (sp?) type things in summer.
My mum is a few years younger than him but always used to say she couldn’t wear jeans because she found them too uncomfortable round the waist. She happily wears per una elasticated waist ones now.
I went to school with a couple of boys who wore three piece suits and carried briefcases from the age of about 11. My school was a comprehensive in the 90s with no uniform, so this was an unusual choice. I’d imagine at least one of them is some kind of senior-ish toady for the current government by now.

SugarSugarShimmy · 06/04/2020 17:10

I’m 41 and have not worn them since I was a teenager....just don’t suit me

CoffeeRunner · 06/04/2020 17:14

My DM never owned to had any desire to own a pair of jeans.

Probably because she considered them somehow "common", as that was her reasoning for not doing most things she didn't want to do Wink.

spiderlight · 06/04/2020 17:15

My dad never did. Smart black trousers at all times, including on the beach. My mum never owned or wore trousers of any description, although she did once try on my dad's cream holiday trousers for a laugh.

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2020 17:16

Generally I think this is more common in the older generation, none of my four grandparents ever wore jeans, and they’d be in their nineties now if they were still with us.

ALongHardWinter · 06/04/2020 17:20

I cannot be one hundred per cent certain, but I'm pretty sure that my late DM never wore a pair of jeans. I cannot recall her wearing them. Trousers yes,but never jeans. On the other hand,my dad lived in jeans when he wasn't at work.

Longdistance · 06/04/2020 17:26

My dm has never owned a pair of jeans, she’s 79. I went through a phase in my 20’s not wearing jeans at all. It was black bootleg trousers that were my staple. Tbh, my legs are long and next to no shops had jeans long enough for my legs.

Connie222 · 06/04/2020 17:26

My dad, 84.

He always said they were ‘common’.

cyclingmad · 06/04/2020 17:41

I'm late thirties and never owned or wore them. I tired them once at Gap a d found them very uncomfortable and stiff.

Kernowgal · 06/04/2020 17:51

A friend I've known since school has never worn trousers, let alone jeans. She's always in dresses and skirts and she looks great in them. Even as a little kid she flat-out refused to wear trousers.

I, on the other hand, live in jeans and hate wearing dresses and skirts because they necessitate the wearing of tights, which were invented by a sadist.

Kenworthington · 06/04/2020 17:58

My dm who is 81 ONLY wears jeans! She likes that they feel ‘supportive’ Grin however her mother and mother in law never wore jeans. In fact her mum never even wore trousers. Her mother I. Law wore slacks

isabellerossignol · 06/04/2020 18:01

Does my mum count? She's in her 80s and I've never even seen her in trousers.

isabellerossignol · 06/04/2020 18:02

I actually know quite a few women who have never worn trousers, for religious reasons, so they presumably would never even have tried a pair of jeans.

sleepyhead · 06/04/2020 18:06

Yep, neither of my parents - in their 70s. Great wearers of "slacks" (mum) and those M&S men's trousers in various colours - not even sure what they're called, sort of chinos I guess (dad).

Hoppinggreen · 06/04/2020 18:06

I know a couple of women but they are from Pakistani backgrounds
They do wear western clothes sometimes but in a similar style to Eastern clothes, so loose linen trousers and tops for example. Apparently jeans would be a step too far.

TeacupDrama · 06/04/2020 18:12

my Dad never has he wears trousers and a shirt and tie most days he is 96 in the summer he will wear a short sleeved open necked shirt he doesn't own a t shirt or polo shirt either cords are for gardening

my mother has never worn jeans or indeed any sort of trousers she wears skirts with jumper/ blouses or dresses with tights in summer she may go bare legged with sandals but she ouldn't go to church without tights

I just don't like jeans much I do possess a pair but rarely if ever wear them I don't like the stiff waistband and they never fit as I need 16 waist and 18 hips and I can't abide belts digging in which they do when holding things up to stop slipping down bum as opposed to merely decorative, I do wear normal trousers though but rarely leggings unless under a dress
