How do I get rid of my bright blue, purple and pink hair???!! 😭

I'm not sure what the F I was thinking. I'm too old for stupid hair mistakes.
Isolation bit me on the butt.

I'd like to avoid colourB4 - if possible. Only because it's full of chemicals and dries your hair out.

Apart from head and shoulders (I'm on it!) what other methods can get rid of crazy coloured hair?

I love it! Wish I could get away with doing that to my hair. Just keep going with the head and shoulders and let it fade. Not as if we're going out any time soon! Dont do anything to damage your hair for the sake of getting rid of the colour quickly.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 30/03/2020 11:23

Yes it does matter. It matters because I look like a prick, and quarantine is for weeks or months, not forever. Bit of a daft thing to say really.

And I will be hauled onto the wards in the coming weeks as well.

Which is fine I can tie it into a bun, but I'd rather just get rid of it.

It's not bad, OP! The blue is probably the worst bit, you're right. But the bottom 2/3 (or 3/4 even) is glorious. I'd also try and do a sort of reverse balayage with a dark colour over the blue. Or just try and style it so some of the blue is covered by the pink and purple - maybe a high messy bun?

Do it ALL pink and purple. It is glorious, and I love it!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 30/03/2020 11:30

It does look much better tied up.

Every few years I fancy myself as some kind of top stylists and seriously fuck up my hair.

I was lulled into the security of quarantine!

Yes it does matter.
I agree. Even if it’s literally just you glancing at yourself in a mirror you don’t want to feel shit about how you look.

Seriously though: the pink and purple looks awesome. I vote for dark roots.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 30/03/2020 11:38

Which brand of dye did you use? Some stick around longer than others!

The blue doesn't actually seem to have taken that well and the pink/purple aren't too dark. I think you could cover it with a dark red or brunette dye? Covering it would be better for your hair than bleaching/trying to remove it.

bananabob · 30/03/2020 11:38

The pink and purple looks lovely can't you just dye over the blue?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/03/2020 11:38

The top part isn't that bad, and the wonderful colours below more than compensate for it. Don't ruin that part yet!

I wish I had the guts (and the dyes!) to do something like that.

bananabob · 30/03/2020 11:38

Even the blue doesn't look bad tbh though

anotherlittlechicken · 30/03/2020 11:39

It's actually really nice.

That said, when you go up Tesco or Morrisons, can you not get a temporary mid-brown dye to cover it? (If you don't like it.)

It's times like this that I thank God I have 3 boxes of my hair dye at any one time. I do it every 8 weeks (to cover bit of grey coming through,) so am OK til at least August.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/03/2020 12:00

Colourless is a really good product and leaves your hair in good condition. It does smell though. I used it and for the first time in 20 years had my natural hair colour.

SouthWestmom · 30/03/2020 12:02

Oh Fgs. Does it matter as in everyone was saying how nice it looked and preserving the condition would be better long term.
But feel free to take offence because that's way more important.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 30/03/2020 12:20

Does it matter? We aren't going anywhere.

My apologies for taking your words for exactly how they were written. I wasn't offended, for what it's worth. You seem pretty uptight, I think quarantine isn't getting to us in different ways.

Mine is Prosecco and hair dye.

Yours is anger 😁😁

Thanks to those who have made me feel less shite about my hair.
I did it thinking it would wash out in 12-15 washes like the box said.

The box LIED. 😂😂

And I'm just joking noef, don't shout.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/03/2020 12:27

I've never dyed my hair, I think I was put off it for life by Anne of Green Gables. I remember being horrified when I watched the TV series (1970s, Kim Braden) that the actress might have had to actually cut her long hair off!Grin

Lying dye is not new!

Frequency · 30/03/2020 12:28

Nothing but bleach or time will work at this point. Crushed up vitamin c tablets do nothing to fade it but everything to wreck your hair. For those it has worked for its the clarifying shampoo they mixed it that stripped the colour and it would've worked just as well without the overly drying vit c.

Leave it to fade and wait for the salons to open again. If you're truly unhappy cover the blue with a red direct dye to get a nice red-purple root. Red fades when u breathe so won't make it last longer. Don't cover it with more blue. Blue is ball ache to remove.

goingoverground · 30/03/2020 12:28

Did you use permanent, semi-permanent hair dye or the wash out temporary hair colours that only work on blonde or bleached hair? If it's the temporary stuff, I would try washing just the blue bit with head and shoulders a few times to fade it, then put some more pink over the top (or a temporary brown dye or coloured shampoo). The same thing might work if it's semi-permanent colour. Try using the temporary colours/shampoos rather than hair dye as they are just the pigment, they don't have bleach (which is what causes the damage).

The pink and purple looks awesome.

SouthWestmom · 30/03/2020 12:29

Fuck me op what a nasty thing to put.

Your first post was basically not wanting to ruin your hair with chemicals and everyone posted how lovely it looked. So I responded.

Anger? No idea how you got that at all. I just posted something based on experience.

Sorry you're doing quarantine better than me, I must try harder.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 30/03/2020 12:29

Sorry I couldn't understand that middle bit, did you say clarifying shampoo is a good idea? Or that it doesn't work?

OP posts:
DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 30/03/2020 12:30

Christ, ok Noef 😫

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/03/2020 12:30

I like it OP. Just embrace it.

Frequency · 30/03/2020 12:33

Clarifying shampoo is good followed by a deep conditioner but not everyday as it also strips the natural oils in your hair. Twice a week will be fine though.

MichaelBoobins · 30/03/2020 12:33

I’ve also had a hair disaster. I still have to leave the house and got to work though! When I get really anxious and things get out of control for me I reach for scissors and the hair dye and I fuck my hair up 😂

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 30/03/2020 12:34

What dye did you use? What colour were you to start with? I don't have to go anywhere for the next few months so I'm seriously considering pink or purple in the meantime.
