How do I get rid of my bright blue, purple and pink hair???!! 😭

I'm not sure what the F I was thinking. I'm too old for stupid hair mistakes.
Isolation bit me on the butt.

I'd like to avoid colourB4 - if possible. Only because it's full of chemicals and dries your hair out.

Apart from head and shoulders (I'm on it!) what other methods can get rid of crazy coloured hair?

Chuck some pink on the too, it's fab! At least enjoy it until all this isolation is all over, it might have grown on you by then :D

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 30/03/2020 14:32

Thanks, OP. I know this is a pain for you but thanks for this thread because I'm realising blue seems a bad idea and that I should probably opt for pink or purple Grin

@lamppostdog what dye did you use for the pink?

Livpool · 30/03/2020 15:05

The pink and purple look great

Glad to help!
I'd rather someone read this and learn from my mistake, no point two of us with twatty hair colour 😂😂

For people that actually want long lasting bright colours Grin (sorry OP Wink) may I recommend stargazer, crazy colour or directions?

IMO Live ones (and I think there is one called Bleach London?) and others you can buy in Boots etc aren't long lasting, which is good news for you OP Smile (Disclaimer, I am not a hairdresser but I have a Mohican which changes colour a lot Grin I use the crazy colour bleach too, which seems more effective than the supermarket ones).

I also have teenagers who don't take their mother's good advice Grin so I can also recommend those twisty yoga type hair bands for cover ups!

lamppostdog · 30/03/2020 15:18

@TheMagiciansMewTwo Directions Flamingo pink

Frequency · 30/03/2020 15:24

It doesn't look twatty op. It just looks washed out. The blending etc between colours is good. Even a pro job would have washed out the same. You honestly look fine.

Nomorewine77 · 30/03/2020 16:29

Head and shoulders mixed with a shit ton of vitamin c. I did this a few days ago as I dyed my hair brown and it went black! Slapped it on my head, wrapped in some cling film, left it for an hour and is now a nice mid brown colour. You may have to do the vit c thing a few times before it really lifts the colour. Good luck!

pigdogridesagain · 30/03/2020 16:32

I faded mine by repeatedly washing with head and shoulders then dyed it a lovely chestnut brown

Nomorewine77 · 30/03/2020 16:36

Either that or dye it brown, whenever I've decided to give vibrant colours a whirl I usually have a back up box of brown dye in case it goes tits up!

Buggedandconfused · 30/03/2020 16:43

Use the fade B4 stuff on the blue only? If that’s natural hair then it won’t damage it too much. Can you then get a nice red/brown and do the whole head?

EasyTarget · 30/03/2020 16:50

I'd try stripping out the blue with vosene, vit c etc then put some of the pink and purple on the roots to match it all up. The pink purple bit looks lovely.

I wouldn't put a brunette colour over it all as it could come out different shades over the different colours. The hair will need a pre pigment on it first before it is coloured brown, which a colourist will need to do. And sticking bleach on it at home could actually end up pushing the colour molecules deeper into the hair shaft. I can't remember all chemistry behind it anymore to be more specific. I used to be a hairstylist but haven't done anything for about 10 years now so out of practice.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/03/2020 17:53

I have bright purple hair and last year decided to go natural - crushed vitamin C, vosene, washing up liquid etc etc did NOTHING except dry out my hair!!

I used this because it had no bleach or ammonia, it worked but I had to do it twice about 10 days apart.

With having no bleach in it did leave the bleach blond underneath the purple brassy but a week or so of using Bleach London silver shampoo and conditioner sorted it

Runnerduck34 · 30/03/2020 18:25

It doesnt look bad, wear it with pride! I really like the pink.
If you dont like the blue will can you dye it pink/ purple like the rest? Hope a hairdresser on here can give you advice soon !
If you hate it wear a hat, tie it up, console yourself you wont be going out much , but honestly i think it looks fine. My 16 year old dd has just beached front section of her hair and dyed it purple , i was toying of doing similar, after all if you cant experiment with hair colour now when can you!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 30/03/2020 18:43

That's two votes for colourless.

I'm going to wash it out for longer, then use Colourless on the blue bits.
Thanks for helping me.

Veterinari · 30/03/2020 18:48

The blue/grey roots don't look great but the pink/purple is awesome - I'd dye it all that colour

Frequency · 30/03/2020 18:59

Colourless is basically a bleach bath in a bottle. It even says contains peroxide and ammonia in the description.

You'd be better off making an actual bleach bath at home using high quality bleach power, a low volume peroxide and a quality moisturising shampoo. Keep it off your scalp (or use a scalp friendly cream bleach like blondor) and only take it to the root ten minutes before you rinse or use a high ammonia, clear permanent colour mixed with 20 vol peroxide. The ammonia pushes out the colour. That's probably what colourless actually is but it'll be mixed with a catch all peroxide (probably 30 or 40 vol). You don't need anything that strong, OP. Plus if your cuticle is stained it'll do nothing.

My professional advise is still to wait for a professional.

It says on the front of the box NO bleach or ammonia Hmm

CurlyMango · 30/03/2020 21:04

I like the pink and purple bits, looks fab

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 31/03/2020 10:19

update for anyone who searches Mumsnet for solutions to a hair mistake.

The blue is almost gone. It's totally gone from my natural hair colour and is now only lingering in the parts where it got the hightlighted bits but now it's very very very light blue and I've no doubt it will disappear if I do this method a few more time.

I did the attached method. Then rinsed it out and directly washed the blue part with fairy liquid then washed it all out with head and shoulders.

My hair really dry now and will need a deep conditioning mask but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm going to leave the rest to fade naturally now the blue has practically gone.

Thanks for all the tips!

I am beginning to look like a elderly shaggy sheep dog - its obviously going to be a fashionable look -however I am contemplating different head ware:
Hairnets & clips - likes to think sexy 1940'sbut more likely Ena Sharples al la Coronation St
Hippy like with narrow scarf tied round native American style with beads perhaps
Scarf like Queen Elizabeth walking corgis in the countryside
getting a nuns wimple or similar
getting a wig off amazon
making mop cap (bit like a old fashioned shower cap - I wonder if I could order one of amazon)
Any more ideas???

MulticolourMophead · 31/03/2020 11:10

I used the live multicolour stuff. I did the underlayer of my hair, leaving my natural colour as the top layer. So the colour peeped out as I have short layers. I also used tomato ketchup to wash the hair to get rid of the last bits of blue/green. It worked. (Tip from a hair dresser friend.)

Frequency · 31/03/2020 17:12

If it makes you feel any better Op, my dd fucked up her hair last night while there was a trained stylist in the house. She decided to take herself off to her room and attempt to remove her blue direct dye herself. She's currently in the kitchen with yellow roots and green ends begging me to help her Grin

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 31/03/2020 18:04

Oh no!! How did she try to do it?!

I saw reviews for Colourless and ColourB4 and everyone who tried to get rid of their blue hair ended up with mint green hair. So I decided against that.

OP posts:
Scruffyoak · 31/03/2020 18:07

Yes. Mine went mint lol and then the bleach after just killed it all
