Has anyone actually managed to get a cocking food delivery slot?

At ANY of the major supermarkets? Ocado emailed me to say as I'm an anytime pass plus customer, I would get priority booking - been stuck in a "paused" online queue since 11am this morning. Have checked every single day with all other major supermarkets and nada. Is there a secret or are there literally just no slots available.

There are no slots available with any of them in my area. Tesco have just limited the amount people can order to 80 items, so that might free up some slots as they will be able to fit more orders on their vans.

formerbabe · 27/03/2020 17:25

Having a row with dh currently over this. He thinks I should stop going to the shop and switch to deliveries. I've told him its virtually impossible to get a slot but apparently I just need to look harder online to find them Confused

LER83 · 27/03/2020 17:27

I've managed to book a click & collect order with Tesco today for 9th April! The only slot available.

BSJohnson · 27/03/2020 17:27

No, but then we've never shopped online before, and so have no accounts anyway.

No one is accepting new online customaries for groceries.

The local shops are all out of everything apart from Easter eggs and alcohol, pretty much. The odd frozen pizza, but no frozen potato products, no fresh veg and fruit except chillies! No milk, butter, fresh meat, bread, flour.... and no one in the house is vulnerable, so basically, no way of getting food. Two kids to feed, mind you.
How I wish I had ignored the imploring not to hoard food a week or two ago. Maybe we would be able to eat healthily now... Hmm

Off to eat more Easter egg, washed down with pizza and biscuits. The kids are enjoying it. For now.

So if I were you, I would be patient and wait til you get your slot!

BSJohnson · 27/03/2020 17:29

And why IS it that everything is in such short supply? Surely panic buyers/food hoarders have stopped or run out of space by now? And the population hasn't gone up, nor have producers stopped supplying yet, I don't think. This is really ridiculous.

Bonkersblond · 27/03/2020 17:30

Yep, I got a tesco slot today for next Sunday, Every day at random times I check, this morning they had some, got an order in, they were all gone within about 20 mins.

SteakFrites · 27/03/2020 17:33

I refreshed Morrison’s food box service all day today, probably every 10 mins from 7.30am. Finally just got a delivery for Monday 10 mins ago (for a friend who is ill and shielding).

I’m ‘priority’ for Ocado today. No slots left. Keep refreshing every 10-15 mins but not much hope. Again, I want to try to get a delivery for a few weeks time for my friend.

@BSJohnson Apparently less than 3% of people were doing anything resembling panic buying.

Most people were, e.g., turning a fortnightly shop into a weekly shop, or adding on a few extra items. On average, something like 1/3 of food is eaten out of the house. Now that extra 1/3 of food needs to be bought from the supermarket.

Imagine a supermarket wants to sell 95% of its stock, generally speaking, and generally manages this. If everyone adds just 10% onto their shop, then you're over 100% of the stock. It's hard for the supermarkets to readjust to our new shopping habits because it's just so different to what went before.

If it had been "panic", it would have settled back down by now. But it's just everyone sensibly buying the right amount of food - it's just a different amount to a few weeks ago.

@formerbabe is there a reason he can’t show off his expertise in looking for delivery slots?

MaidenMotherCrone · 27/03/2020 17:41

I managed to get a click and collect this morning for Monday.

Sparrowlegs248 · 27/03/2020 17:43

I got an email from Sainsbury yesterday to say they had released some slots, and I did get one for Sunday. I have a delivery pass, I think they emailed delivery pass customers.

Snufflesdog · 27/03/2020 17:43

I’ve got an Asda delivery booked for the first week in April but I don’t need some of the stuff now, and I do need different things that have proven to be more popular in the house than I was expecting.
I can’t even get past the queue to get on the website.

Pishposhpashy · 27/03/2020 17:44

I think it is less panic buying and more that 30% of people's calories, in normal times, are eaten outside the home, in cafes etc. Now everyone is at home and cooking they simply cant cope with the demand. There is stock, just lack of delivery drivers and picking staff etc.

I got a Tesco slot for 5 April - I looked at 5.15 this morning when I woke up

ChelseaCat · 27/03/2020 17:48

I got a Tesco slot for Tuesday when I looked this morning. There were three different times available. Think it’s just down to luck!

Whome91 · 27/03/2020 17:49

Same Tuesday next week Tesco

JustMySize · 27/03/2020 17:52

NO - not even close.

Bloomburger · 27/03/2020 17:56

Was in a queue since 7am this morning something like 160k, got down to 40k then it paused and I got an email telling me I was on a list to get priority booking and to log on so I did, queued first 4 minutes and edited the order I'd booked last week. Good job too because DS has asthma and an immunity issue and so we are locked down (other than DH who is working!)

QuestionMarkNow · 27/03/2020 18:02

@Pishposhpashy, Ive just checked my tesco slot and some slots have just magically appeared for tomorrow!!

I assume theyve managed to get one more driver? worth double cheking your way.

thethoughtfox · 27/03/2020 18:12

I unexpectedly looked at Tesco this morning and found 2 slots on Monday. It's worth randomly checking.

Sexnotgender · 27/03/2020 18:16

Yip, booked an Asda one on Wednesday for delivery tomorrow.

daisypond · 27/03/2020 18:16

No. It’s completely blocked out. I’ve tried every supermarket for the last two weeks.

Pishposhpashy · 27/03/2020 18:17

Think I'm going to have to set a bloody alarm for 4 to get a slot.

I booked my Asda one at about 5am as I was up with my baby.

Voxx · 27/03/2020 18:19

Yes but only because I was awake at 3.15 in the morning a couple of days ago. Looked on the off chance and there were a few available for next week. Now keeping everything crossed they don’t cancel on me!
