Social media phrases you can’t stand

Was browsing Instagram last night and someone I went to school with posted a photo of her and her grandparents and captioned it ‘My grandparents are better than yours’. Well the last of my grandparents passed away last year so...guess hers are better? I know I know it’s supposed to be lighthearted but I’ve seen it loads of times, ‘my friends are better than your friends’ etc. I just don’t like it! Are there any phrases you see on SM that get on your nerves?

Living my best life

Shittest phrase ever.

Mydogatemypurse · 22/02/2020 09:05

Dead
Dying

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 22/02/2020 09:06

Mydog
Agreed! That and pictures of coffins to illustrate!

Eniale37 · 22/02/2020 09:15

@TisConfusion I hate that phrase so much. Someone on my instragram posted a picture of her baby with the hashtag my family is better than your family and at the time we were really struggling with infertility and trying to be referred for ivf so it felt like a punch in the guts. She obviously didn’t mean anything by it but it just doesn’t feel like a nice thing to write.

Slavica · 22/02/2020 09:16

Dropping a convo.
I really hate that phrase.

TisConfusion · 22/02/2020 09:21

Eniale37 sorry you went through that. It’s really not a nice thing to write at all. It reminds me of something a young child might say on a playground.

The whole dead/dying thing is pretty awful too.

And ‘living my best life’ actually makes me nauseous.

Hollibobs. Used by grown up everytime she books a trip we are treated to a countdown to their next hollibobs. Idiotic

lostinleaves · 22/02/2020 09:29

That and pictures of coffins to illustrate

Agreed. I have a photo of the chapel set up for a family funeral, the culture where I am is for funerals to be recorded and the director does a photo album. I have those photos but they are going nowhere and most emphatically not on social media.

SeaViewBliss · 22/02/2020 09:30

Fam and even worse, familiam.

‘Had a great day out with the Fam’

MadisonAvenue · 22/02/2020 09:30

I’m not crying, you’re crying

Newcatmum · 22/02/2020 09:31

This one

Had a great day with this one now time for a cheeky takeaway.

Felipa · 22/02/2020 09:31

#blessed #makingmemories #fambam
#likeaboss #smashedit #yaassqueen

What does like a boss even mean?!

Slavica · 22/02/2020 09:32

@MadisonAvenue, ugh. I agree.

Muckycat · 22/02/2020 09:32

Never seen the 'my family is better' thing and understand it is meant light heartedly but what an awful, childish, self congratulatory thing to say! It's this shitty competitive aspect of SM I hate. As though we weren't all aware that everyone only shows a carefully edited view.

'I can't even' annoys me. Cant even what? Type a full sentence? Gah!

APatchyTomCat · 22/02/2020 09:34

‘This one’, or ‘these beauts’

Rhinosaurus · 22/02/2020 09:34

“you’ve got this...”

TisConfusion · 22/02/2020 09:34

Saw a new one (new one on me anyway) just now...

#famspiration

Hmm

Just though of another one...

#longhairdontcare

Well, neither do we! Also, it’s not your real hair anyway!

Excited for. They actually mean excited ABOUT. Or better still find a different word which will not sound like you're an 8 year old? Perhaps really looking forward to, or thrilled, or delighted?

ItchyScratch · 22/02/2020 09:37

THIS GIRL CAN

I CAN JUST WATCH ME

Eniale37 · 22/02/2020 09:40

@TisConfusion thank you. She also told me to relax and go on holiday as that worked for her. Haha!

Also # blessed annoys me for some reason. Maybe I’m just grumpy this morning!

purpleme12 · 22/02/2020 09:41

I've never seen that my family is better is better than yours but I think that's an awful thing to say. I would never say that

I don't tend to say things like this anyway

But one thing I thought of is
Kin hell instead of fuckin hell - why??

CherryValance · 22/02/2020 09:41

Twitter likes to think itself above Facebook, but has its own share of annoying phrases, including: ‘I don’t know who needs to hear this but...(insert nauseating generalised ‘you’re worth it type phrase’ or try hard funny here) and ‘Sure, sex might be good, but have you ever...’

Pat self on back, wait for retweets.

undercoveraessedai · 22/02/2020 09:42

Famalam. Girlboss. Slide into my DMs. #blessed. Holibobs.

Argh, now I'm raging 🤣
