Social media phrases you can’t stand

Was browsing Instagram last night and someone I went to school with posted a photo of her and her grandparents and captioned it ‘My grandparents are better than yours’. Well the last of my grandparents passed away last year so...guess hers are better? I know I know it’s supposed to be lighthearted but I’ve seen it loads of times, ‘my friends are better than your friends’ etc. I just don’t like it! Are there any phrases you see on SM that get on your nerves?

Yeah I still think about the boots when I see slide into DMs... (you can take the girl out of the 90s, but...)

buzzswole · 22/02/2020 09:45

"So, a lot of people have been asking me about my skin care routine ..."
Followed by an interminable sales pitch for pointless products #ad #gifted #spon

I bet no one ever asked them about their skin care routine. I can't why you would.

Shamazing · 22/02/2020 09:47

@ItchyScratch I posted a pic of DD doing something fairly normal last week and my friend replied. #thisgirlcan

I love my friend dearly but christ almighty she's a bugger for dodgy hashtags. 😂

NellyTimes · 22/02/2020 09:55

Describing something as "too funny" or "too cute"

Oh I'm sorry my baby is too cute, next time I'll cover its fucking face up.

Shamazing · 22/02/2020 09:56

I can't even ...

Feeling cute ...

I'll just leave this here, you're welcome.

thefourgp · 22/02/2020 10:01

Live, laugh, love

‘Real men/women....’ - as opposed to all the fake ones Grin

‘snowflake’ - the numbers of idiots who try to use this as an insult is worrying high

shumway · 22/02/2020 10:09

Feeling all the feels.

eandz13 · 22/02/2020 10:13

Every one of the above mentioned annoys me too, especially 'lol dead!'. My little pet social media peeve is "laughed way harder than I should have at this" how hard should you have laughed then? Hmm

dementedma · 22/02/2020 10:20

Making memories, blessed, sentences beginning with "so". Also, I did a thing.

In media terms the overuse of the word "lockdown" makes me want to scream. Used when two roads are closed...area in lockdown!!!!

Waitingfordennis · 22/02/2020 10:25

Agree re lockdown ☠️

brainfogg · 22/02/2020 10:27

All of the above, plus “End of” when trying to cleverly make an argument.

Social media brings out some awful traits in people, a lot of them aren’t even like that in real life though! It’s like it gives them permission to be a twat for a while!!

bohemia14 · 22/02/2020 10:31

Making memories
Holibobs

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 22/02/2020 10:33

And then this happened.

You’ve got this mama

SilkandSteel1 · 22/02/2020 10:35

Friday night drinkipoos

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 22/02/2020 10:35

Or (something) goals

Constantlurker · 22/02/2020 10:36

#girlboss. As opposed to what?? #manboss?? Or you know...just boss.

Hairwizard · 22/02/2020 10:39

Any hashtags. What is the point of them?

Feels
That wee face
This one

DirtyTicket · 22/02/2020 10:42

Dear god. Thankfully I don't use much social media, like CherryValance, DM's are boots to me.

APatchyTomCat where I'm from, 'beauts' means something totally different. "Out with these beauts" would be akin to saying "out with these fucking dickheads".

Mrsjayy · 22/02/2020 10:43

anything to be honest it all gets on my nerves but i saw #mummabear #wegotthis , recently and it really irritated me !

APatchyTomCat · 22/02/2020 10:47

DirtyTicket

Ha that’s funny, but no, sadly round here it just means the ‘girls’.

Whitelisbon · 22/02/2020 10:52

Fucking famalam. My sister posts shit like "spending time with this one today #blessed #famalam"
Last time she came over I told her if she posted a hashtag with famalam and tagged me again I'd block her.
I've never posted a hashtag in my entire life (had to hunt for the hash to post those above), what is the point in them?Angry

Youngatheart00 · 22/02/2020 10:54

Can’t stand the tendency for people to self define as ‘mama’ or worse ‘mama bear’ on social media. FFS.

Shamazing · 22/02/2020 10:59

He/she said Yes!

DrivingMsCrazy · 22/02/2020 11:01

@hairwizard hashtags on Instagram are to increase your followers and reach. People hope that searchers will find them through the hashtag and follow them. The problem is when they post their Insta pic automatically over to Facebook which doesn't use them in the same way. It's annoying.

OrangeSamphire · 22/02/2020 11:01

‘These squares’ 🤯
