What would you do if you could retrain, with time and money no object

I would be an osteopath - having been taken from crippling pain to ok by one, I am in awe. Gods amongst men etc. That said, I did fancy being a midwife immediately post baby so maybe I am just suggestible.

Diplomat sounds interesting. Or something where I could utilise the six languages I wish I spoke.
Travel writer or restaurant critic.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 19/02/2020 19:44

Am a teacher, but lots I’d rather be doing! Child psychotherapist, illustrator, something to do with space, something in tourism... Often think about retraining; if only it weren’t for money!

I would love to work in fraud investigations and want to train for it.
Does anyone know where I could train to become a fraud investigator?

Herocomplex · 19/02/2020 20:03

Ooh Lunar that is a good one, I worked with a forensic accountant once, it was very interesting and a bit exciting.

I think the DWP jobs site might be the place to start though if you’re serious.

annie9876 · 19/02/2020 20:08

A Pediatrics nurse....I'm in finance and although the pay is great I get no satisfaction from my work.

I'd love to retrain and go back to uni to train as a nurse but alas those bills have other ideas

EmbarrassedAndEnraged · 19/02/2020 20:11

It's really nice to see my job mentioned a few times. I love it and wouldn't want to do anything different.

TheletterZ · 19/02/2020 20:16

I did this recently. Been a SAHM for a long time and we could live comfortably on DH salary. I trained as a teacher, 2.5 years in and I’m loving it!

timetochangeagainforever · 19/02/2020 20:17

Yoga teacher

TitsalinaBumSquash · 19/02/2020 20:19

Trauma Surgeon ... I've possibly been watching too much Grey's Anatomy. Grin

drownininplaymobil · 19/02/2020 20:20

Architect. Without a doubt.

AshGirl · 19/02/2020 20:29

I would like to be a surveyor, probably specialising in valuation.

Or, speech and language therapist.

Currently a lawyer, which I do enjoy but the grass is always greener!

MrsDilligaf · 19/02/2020 20:36

I'd love to be an ODP. I wish I could afford to retrain but I'd still be paying back a student loan when DD (who's 4!) goes to university.

managedmis · 19/02/2020 20:41

Dietetics

Oh fun thread!

An eccentric academic

Presently a very well paid administrator!

Poetryinaction · 19/02/2020 20:45

Newsreader

pastaparadise · 19/02/2020 20:46

Clin Psychologist here - always interesting but it can be stressful and draining listening to people's problems and misery all day.

I'd love to be a successful well paid photographer/ illustrator

Potatobug · 19/02/2020 20:50

Media, preferably films, something behind the camera. I think being part of a crew and being creative that way is fun and fulfilling.

minipie · 19/02/2020 20:58

Architect

Kitchen designer

Property search agent (Kirsty and Phil style... except I know one IRL and she mainly works for investors which isn’t as fun)

Masseur

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 19/02/2020 21:00

I am currently a solicitor and in my daydreams, I flit between:
A children's librarian - although I appreciate that this is probably something that nowhere can afford 😔
A paediatric nurse - although I have DC and a DH that works shifts and is the higher earner, and certainly would stay that way if I went into nursing!
A midwife.
A wedding dress shop owner/seamstress/designer all rolled into one 😄
If money were no object, I'd run a shop in my hometown with cloth nappies and similar, children's clothes etc. This is slightly less of a pipe dream and DH is encouraging me to put a plan in place to see if it's feasible Confused I'm not sure I'm brave enough 😔 unless we won the lottery of course!
A counsellor.

Roominmyhouse · 19/02/2020 21:03

Forensic pathologist or radiologist.
Or like @namechangeymcnamechange11 I’d run a wedding dress shop.

Quite different ends of the job spectrum!

TenCornMaidens · 19/02/2020 21:08

I'd take an English degree. I am taking a creative writing class now and love it so much, and have had some very very minor successes, but I feel like I have missed out on so much by not taking an English degree.

Ideally I'd take it now, not go back and take it when I was 18/19, because I would like to be able to keep my sense of what is bullshit and nonsense.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 19/02/2020 21:09

I want to go back to Uni and do an archaeology degree.

BadEyeBri · 19/02/2020 21:13

I'd like to be a surgical oncologist. All the people wanting to be vets are bonkers. Bad hours, bad pay and huge amounts of stress.

Purpletigers · 19/02/2020 21:16

Or a violinist in an orchestra touring the world .
