What would you do if you could retrain, with time and money no object

I would be an osteopath - having been taken from crippling pain to ok by one, I am in awe. Gods amongst men etc. That said, I did fancy being a midwife immediately post baby so maybe I am just suggestible.

Airline pilot or air traffic controller

Monstermummymum · 19/02/2020 17:57

Law, social work or medicine in a heartbeat! I'd love to do something to genuinely help people.

I'm desperate to retrain but I'd be 40+ before I was properly qualified and can't really afford the drop in pay until then... I accidentally fell into a career i never wanted but it pays well 🤷🏼‍♀️

If I was to really, really go 'out there' I'd work in a wildlife reservation, preferably Africa.

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/02/2020 18:00

I wanted to be a teacher but now I'm older I know I need a job that doesn't include being with people all day. I think perhaps something to do with conservation, perhaps books and manuscripts.

Fedupandpoor · 19/02/2020 18:02

Thai massage therapist, yoga therapist specialising in children and adults with additional needs and those suffering from ptsd.

I'm a qualified massage therapist and I teach children's yoga so almost there! Becoming a registered yoga therapist takes years and several thousand pounds, ditto Thai massage. I will get there, just slowly!

BillywigSting · 19/02/2020 18:03

I would be a mental health nurse in a heartbeat.

I already work with vulnerable adults so deal with drastic underfunding /understaffing anyway, and this is actually my 5/7 year plan.

Lou0390 · 19/02/2020 18:09

Equine physiotherapist Smile

PathOfLeastResitance · 19/02/2020 18:10

I regularly play this game in my head.
It would be something medical like a doctor, physio or midwife.

PathOfLeastResitance · 19/02/2020 18:11

More unrealistic jobs would be textile designer or pattern drafter.

Graphista · 19/02/2020 18:24

Realistic but still out of reach for me at the moment - teaching.

Pie in the sky - I wish when I'd had the opportunity when I was younger I'd trained as a journalist. Think I'd have been good at it but at the time didn't have that confidence. Now I see the poor quality of press and media output and feel sure I'd have done a better job... but then maybe they're at the mercy of editors etc?

Littlepond · 19/02/2020 18:26

I want to be a psychotherapist. It was my plan when I studied psychology but I just couldn’t afford the additional studying ☹️

Or an educational psychologist. This is still my long term goal but I got a way to go yet.

BobbleBun · 19/02/2020 18:33

I'd love to be a surgeon or anything heavily biology/chemistry based.

I was pushed down the art/creative route at school and now that I'm older I regret not following my interest in science.

LeoTimmyandVi · 19/02/2020 18:38

I’m an OT too, was a primary school teacher previously. If I could do anything and it paid a lot better I would be a support worked for people with learning disabilities and/or mental health issues.

I currently do the assessing and prep work to set up some lovely things for my clients...then hand it over to the support workers to do!

thirdpassport · 19/02/2020 18:40

Air traffic controller, or working at a high level in logistics.

jenthelibrarian · 19/02/2020 19:02

These threads always have people wanting to be librarians/archivists.

I am one, I look after a small specialist collection and, to be honest, there is a lot of data entry and posh filing involved.
These days you also have to be a patient computer-wrangler and know your systems and software for creating databases.

If I had my time over again? Law, human rights.

Getoffmylilo · 19/02/2020 19:08

Archeologist - I nearly did archeology and geography at university and then changed my tiny mind.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 19/02/2020 19:13

Former divorce lawyer here. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Dream career? Probably a stonemason working on restoring cathedrals etc or one of those conservators you see on tv hiding in the back rooms of museums gently restoring fabulous works of art.

IamPickleRick · 19/02/2020 19:16

Architect, dentist, hairdresser or textile artist.

Purpletigers · 19/02/2020 19:17

Pilot

ToooRevealing · 19/02/2020 19:18

I'd be a musical theatre actor, then retrain as a drama therapist and painter with a beautiful hardwood floored studio on the coast somewhere.

Bananaman123 · 19/02/2020 19:19

Work in computer forensics for cyber crime

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/02/2020 19:22

Ruby we could swap! Im a teacher but found it too much after having kids.

So wish Id trained as an OT or psych pre kids. 40 now and looks impossible. I have a psych degree but local jni deosnt do psych training, and only 3 yr OT course.

Alsoco · 19/02/2020 19:24

A vet! I don’t recommend solicitor. Vile job and I hate it.

Itsagrandoldteam · 19/02/2020 19:32

A professional golfer, I didn't realise how good I was until I was too old.

Or a paediatrician, I imagine it would feel amazing to make sick kids feel better again.
