The Robbing Butcher - Bemused by the Patio at FrogMhor Cottage

TheMustressMhor · 08/02/2020 10:58

What next for the Robbing Butcher?

Will he wander past Mhor Cottage several times a day so that he can keep an eye on the progress of the patio?

Will Mr. Mhor's measurements turn out to be wrong? And will Mustress Mhor and her DH have too many SLABS as a result?

If they do, what will they do with them?

Will the eggs be dippy tomorrow?

Aw Worfs it's awful when they're ill.

Have you given him paracetamol elixir? Some chemists have (I gather) run out, with everyone panic buying.

Not in our pharmacy. Nobody has panic-bought anything other than hand sanitizer.

7 9 months is such a lovely age - cute, funny, smiley, cuddly bundles (except when ill) and cant run you ragged or ask why interminably!

I did, got new baby the cutest little knitted cardie (enough to be a coat substitute if necc) with bunny motifs and bunny ears, and a little dress/t-shirt combo which should be flexible enough for mixed early summer weather (got 3-6 months), and a set of cars for Big Brother - plus receipt so mum can change/woudl prefer to spend the money on drink etc. Now just need to parcel the buggers up and post...

LaMarschallin · 07/03/2020 18:23

Oh poor baby7 - hope some sleep is obtainable.

Yay! re end of chemo for Mryolo 😊

Catherine many thanks for your interesting answer to my question; might you take a photo if you manage to place your pomegranate?

Yes, Mustress, it is indeed from there. I read "Magic Flutes" by Eva Ibbotson and, although one the less nice characters sang the Marschallin, the part itself intrigued me.

Oh dear, just got back from helping with teas at a church youth event organised by our lovely curate. She'd put masses of effort into it and hardly anyone turned up ☹

And - because it was for the church (and also because she's old enough to be my mother, so I can't bring myself to be rude to her) - I had to put up with being horribly bossed around by the other tea-lady.
When she reached over brandishing a teaspoon at the coffee I was just handing to someone (because I "hadn't stirred it enough" 🙄 - black, sugarless coffee) I nearly stuck one of her (dry, actually*) scones in her ear.

*I know - miaow 🤭🐈

Oh FFS why do I think having grown up children is easier?!

DD1, in the french Alps, has fallen off a step ("honestly mummy, I only had a couple of drinks") and has now sent me a photo of her ankle the size of a balloon... but will work tomorrow morning and then go to medical centre. Having had a really bad ankle break and surgery myself, I can only assume that if she can weight bear it is probably not broken.

DD2, back in her uni town with friends for a couple of nights has shut her finger in a car door. The last time she did this was in 6th form, and that resulted in xrays, broken finger etc.

FFS, I am having Wine and going to bed before more shit can happen!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/03/2020 22:50

I complained to DS1 about the absence of toilet rolls and paracetamol at Waitrose and he told me I didn't do enough shopping at motorway service stations and garage shops, where they are in abundance.

So there is my top tip.

DS1 (30+) is finally enacting the transformation of Harry Enfield's Kevin into a human, if anyone remembers that. Tonight he informed me he had used the slow cooker I gave him to make a stew. My heart sang.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/03/2020 23:02

Wow, yolo, one broken DD may be regarded as a misfortune, to break two looks like carelessness....GrinGrinGrin

TheMustressMhor · 07/03/2020 23:28

Have you heard the opera?

(Question for LaMa)

Mr. Mhor and I had Big Plans to go to Glyndebourne to hear Die Rosenkavalier but moved hurriedly to Scotland in the space of three weeks.

Make of that what you will.

If mum would prefer to spend the money on drink

That would have been my preferred option when I opened some of the terrible clothes my aunts sent for DD2.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 07/03/2020 23:32

Sorry yolo. I wasn't suggesting that you had bad taste in babywear.

I would always prefer to spend money on drink but hey ho

DAY THREE COMES TO ITS CONCLUSION

And I have not wavered.

16:8 is soooooo difficult.

Life without sherry takes some getting used to as well.

Pah.

I shall go to the ball.

On a brighter note, I have done fifteen weeks without fags. Come to think of it, that coincides with my inability to stick to my eating plan.

Well I am not starting smoking again just to get thinner. Surely it is possible to adhere to a diet and not smoke?

OP posts:
yolofish · 08/03/2020 08:18

How the hell have you done 15 weeks without fags mustress? I need your secret pretty please.

DD2 is going to the walk in this morning as nail half hanging off (sorry, its a bit early for that disgusting image). No news from DD1 yet.

Raining again here, what a surprise.

Hope the worfs family got some sleep.

7Worfs · 08/03/2020 10:06

Thank you for your kind words, friends!

Baby and I went to bed at 6pm last night and got up at 7am, mostly slept with only a bit of wrestling for 2am Calpol administration. We are doing well so far!

LaMa you didn’t just insult the bossy lady’s scones! Shock

Mustress and yolo you don’t read as smokers, I am shocked at the revelation! Shock

GracefulHippo · 08/03/2020 10:22

7, so sorry baby is sick, I have been there. It is dreadful. Sounds like you are beating the big, hang in there!

Yolo, cannot even imagine having sick children far away or in another country!! I have been known to let them sleep in my bed when I’ll (checking temp middle of the night) Blush and taking them to doctors at all hours. Mr Hippo thinks I am overreacting sometimes. Hope your DDs get better soon!

Mustress, well done!!! My effort so far has been to locate the weight loss part of MN. I think I need to work harder.

So, nothing new on the boiler. So far no leaking (and it hasn’t rained), so am thinking that it is a) rainwater not interfering with electrics or b) rainwater which may be dangerous somehow. I have decided to keep it off overnight when it is the slightest risk for rain. Mr Hippo had a nasty surprise getting into his bath this morning. I had forgotten that the boiler was off when he started his bath and was deeply in the Sunday Times when I heard an accusatory shout asking who turned the boiler off. I think it was a rhetorical question....

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 08/03/2020 10:37

Glad baby is doing well 7worfs it's so stressful when they are sick at that tiny age. I remember nights just grazing sleep, one ear permemenantly open to check breathing properly and temperature. Amazing how mothers learn to sleep without sleeping!

LaMar: I shall certainly send pictures when I do the trip. That will be when the weather is warmer. Hopefully corona panic doesn't result in tons of travel restrictions across the country.

I too am shocked at the allusions to smoking! Mustress that takes considerable strength to stop. One of my neighbours is 81 and has smoked since his twenties. I have no idea how he's going. But he gets out more than I do. Says he has no intention of ever stopping and doedn't even have a cough. I don't understand how.

Considering what your girls have been up to I'd have a fag as well Yolo Do they always copy each others misdemeanours?

TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:16

SECRET VICES

Or possibly - not-so-secret vices, since the whole of MN (or at least those who read these threads) now knows that I have given up smoking. Therefore I must have been a smoker previously.

Yolo - I managed to stop when I went to London to visit the DC. None of them smoke, so I got nicotine patches and started to stop while I was there.

There was no fucking way that I was going out to DD's garden in November, just to have a fag.

It was easy. That bit was easy.

It was when I got back to the village that it became difficult. But I had managed a week without fags so I persevered.

I have to confess that it was only when I got on the scales and discovered that I had gained weight again that I finally made the connection.

People say that stopping fags = gaining weight.

Probably true. But now that I've realised, I am back on the 16:8 and the low carbs.

The Robbing Butcher has a lot to answer for IMO.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:18

Oh and yolo - sometimes it's the wrong time to try to give up.

If you're worried about the yolo DDs and Mr. Yolo as well, casting aside fags may prove very, very difficult at the moment.

Just saying.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:20

Oh, and I didn't start smoking till I was forty three.

Make of that what you will.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:23

Hippo - how's the boiler?

Worfs - how's the baby?

Catherine - how's the (racks brains) ah - I have it.

How's the pomegranate?

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:27

Forgot LaMa.

LaMa - how's the broken nose?

(Am assuming that someone at the Church Tea punched you on the nose yesterday. As a church organist myself I am only too aware of how much tempers can rise at seemingly-innocuous ecclesiastical events.)

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:29

Sorry fleas - how's the food poisoning?

(You may have contracted this after DC used the slow cooker for the first time.)

If it is possible to extrapolate something from a situation, I can generally succeed in doing this.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/03/2020 11:33

yolofish

I think that you regard the shutters in the same way that I regard the patio.

Loved by our respective spouses but we could have done without the cost/chaos/outcome.

OP posts:
yolofish · 08/03/2020 12:07

DD1 says her ankle is still swollen but couldnt get to medical centre today as it closes at 11. She will go tomorrow.

DD2 has sent me two disgusting photos of nail, is now on her way back from uni town and will go walk in in local town. Which is remarkably sensible of her!

Shutters are still not making me happy.

Off to have fag then shower before inlaws arrive for lunch. DH is cooking except the roast beef, which he always fucks up.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 08/03/2020 12:44

I love all the smokers!
Was a smoker for years , now feel it's a dirty little secret!
I swapped to fake fags as was incapable of going cold turkey ☹️,
I still really miss it !

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 08/03/2020 12:44

Your DDs appear to be very pragmatic about their injured limbs Yolo. Do they have a high pain threshold? All this procrastinating over getting seen to.

My threshold is poor. I'd be the person having a melt down in A&E over my half hanging nail and asking why I'm not being administered to immediately while some poor sod with a broken arm is waiting quietly and patiently for his turn.

When I was in labour with DS 2, I was pacing outside the maternity suite huffing and puffing and groaning loudly and this lady sat there calmly reading a magazine totally unperturbed.

Later learned she had her baby the exact same time I had mine Blush

My pomegranate is fine Mustress Grin There are very rude allusions going through my mind at that!

How comes you only started smoking in your early forties though? Sorry I have to ask. That seems very unusual to me. What happened?(sorry if it was some bad event ignore me in that case) Did you finally just get curious??

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 08/03/2020 12:47

Sorry Yolo somehow I missed that DD can't get to medical centre. Please ignore stupid post!!

Still they are both quite appear quite strong.
