Just a quick question. In a chain restaurant, my son has eaten a quater of a small pizza which when I noticed, was raw pastry.
I know there are risks of stomach bugs from eating raw pastry, the restaurant did replace it, but would you ask them to note it somewhere in case he does get unwell?

I really wouldn’t worry - if it was pizza dough it’s flour, water and a bit of oil. Really can’t see it being an issue at all. Never heard of raw dough (or pastry) being a risk of stomach bugs.

Stomach bug from raw pastry,? How?

Bread dough is yeast, flour and water.....

Pastry is butter, flour and water.....

How do you get a bug from those?

PullingMySocksUp · 01/02/2020 18:48

Was it totally raw? How did they manage that?

He might have a sore tummy from the uncooked yeast.

If you google you’ll see that you’re not meant to eat raw flour.
My children have eaten a lot of cake mix and biscuit dough and been fine.

Eg just the metro but the first Uk one I found

Apparently you can get e.coli poisoning from raw flour. I only found out about this a couple of weeks ago when I was listening to a podcast. I've eaten raw cake mix my whole life and never had a problem, but will think twice about letting kids lick the bowl in future.

GloGirl · 01/02/2020 18:55

What!!! Never heard of raw flour being a problem!

katy1213 · 01/02/2020 18:56

Well, I've survived this long.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/02/2020 18:57

It is a thing.

Should I ask them to write it somewhere or not?

The top was cooked but the middle and bottom wasn't. It's f&b, so they have a pizza oven, so no idea how they managed it!

Why do you want them to note it down in case he becomes ill later?

It's a good idea to point it out to them so they keep a better eye on whether it's cooked in future.

It's a good thing that you noticed so you can keep an eye on him in case he does feel a bit under the weather (unlikely though that may be).

Other than that, I don't see the benefit anything being noted "in case".

Sharkyfan · 01/02/2020 18:59

Eh?
I wouldn’t bother personally as I wouldn’t think twice about this.
My kids always tuck into a bit of raw dough when we’re making pizza at home.
I thought the worst that could happen is that you can get a tummy ache.
I think you need to forget about it now.

Sharkyfan · 01/02/2020 18:59

Surprised that raw flour is a thing.
What about loaves that are dusted with flour.

BennytheBall · 01/02/2020 19:00

Blimey. I wouldn't even think about worrying about this.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/02/2020 19:01

Accident book is used for accidents. This isn't an accident but obviously a risk which could cause illness.

OP posts:
Sally2791 · 01/02/2020 19:02

I wouldn’t think about worrying about that!

notacooldad · 01/02/2020 19:04

I wouldn't bother tbh.

LaMarschallin · 01/02/2020 19:05

Well, tell them about it and they can put it in the accident book if they deem uncooked pastry to be an accident.

I don't see the difference as to whether he's unwell later or not.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/02/2020 19:05

I should have said raw dough. It's dough rather than pastry.

TheGreatWave · 01/02/2020 19:05

I love raw pastry. Never heard it was bad.

RogueV · 01/02/2020 19:06

No Confused

Hercwasonaroll · 01/02/2020 19:06

I always eat raw dough, cake mix and pastry..... Still alive!

ohmysoul · 01/02/2020 19:07

Raw dough won't make him ill, OP. It just won't taste that nice.

mindutopia · 01/02/2020 19:08

It’s just water and flour. Eat raw pastry/dough all the time. I give dc raw cookie dough with egg. All have survived. They’ll be fine.

BennytheBall · 01/02/2020 19:10

Do you suffer from anxiety, OP?

karencantobe · 01/02/2020 19:10

I always let my kids eat the raw cake mix from the bowl.

Cohle · 01/02/2020 19:13

I think you're over thinking this. Yes raw flour isn't ideal, but you'd probably give him a bit of cake batter without a second though. The worst case is a slightly upset stomach. I wouldn't expect a restaurant to do more than apologise and knock it off the bill,
