Just a quick question. In a chain restaurant, my son has eaten a quater of a small pizza which when I noticed, was raw pastry.
I know there are risks of stomach bugs from eating raw pastry, the restaurant did replace it, but would you ask them to note it somewhere in case he does get unwell?

I would be more concerned they are making pizza with pastry

If it was cooked on top and not underneath they obviously cooked it under a grill and not in a pizza oven. Just another reason not to eat at shitty chain restaurants like Frankie and Bennies!

Anyway OP it's kind of weird you made a thread to ask this. Like you said, eating raw dough carries a small E. Coli risk. You have said that in the tiny off-chance he gets badly sick, you would want to be able to sue. So obviously you need to make sure they have what happened down in writing somewhere!

This is a complete non issue.

As an aside, while I agree with you re not taking unnecessary risks with food, but come on, eating the leftover raw cake mix is the best part of making cakes! You’re depriving your child Grin

TBF though I'm not sure I trust the hygiene practices of a restaurant that can't cook a pizza.

DiegoSaber · 01/02/2020 22:55

Like, if they can't cook a pizza, can we be sure they know how to clean a surface?

fallfallfall · 01/02/2020 23:01

under cooked or soggy? both can look very similar.
if the topping was cooked then it was soggy.

fessmess2 · 01/02/2020 23:06

Raw pastry? Will do you no harm.

ClientQueen · 01/02/2020 23:12

I'm severely neutropenic and wouldn't bat an eyelid at that. And I eat raw cake mix

DiegoSaber · 01/02/2020 23:34

If they cooked it under a grill then it's perfectly possible for the topping to be done and not the base.

DartmoorChef · 02/02/2020 00:02

It would have been cooked in an oven, and the bases are prebaked. It was soggy, not raw. Or even still a bit frozen. But I know they buy their pizza bases in frozen pre cooked.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/02/2020 00:03

I want some raw cake batter now, but I am on a diet, so I can’t. Sad

Rosehipbubbles · 02/02/2020 06:53

This is the moment op you find your nice local Italian and going out gets better! We've all been there- had dc thought you had to go to places like Frankie and Benny's, go once, discover they are dire and then realise we can stay in the real world go to nice places and just bring the dc!

How they managed to cook the top of a pizza though on an uncooked base is beyond me - blow torch? I would have spoken to or emailed the manager because it's a warning that the staff in the kitchen don't have a clue what they are doing. And I would never go back.

ChristmasCarcass · 04/02/2020 00:22

Rosehip - frozen pizza base. So it’s not raw, just not fully defrosted Envy

MiniGuinness · 04/02/2020 00:27

I did not know raw flour was a risk. Probably won’t change my ways though. Our local pizza place gave raw dough to kids to play with at the table. My kids would eat it, usually after it had been on the floor a few times.
