4 year old eaten raw pastry in restaurant.

Just a quick question. In a chain restaurant, my son has eaten a quater of a small pizza which when I noticed, was raw pastry.
I know there are risks of stomach bugs from eating raw pastry, the restaurant did replace it, but would you ask them to note it somewhere in case he does get unwell?

Isn't the cake mix/raw pastry thing largely negated with Lion-stamped eggs? They're safe to eat raw, and the overwhelming majority of eggs sold in the UK are Lion-stamped.

angelikacpickles · 01/02/2020 20:11

You can't get rid of risk, but you can try to avoid them surely?

How will getting the restaurant to note it down avoid risk?

DesLynamsMoustache · 01/02/2020 20:11

From the 'egg info' Grin website:

'The British Lion scheme has been responsible for a drastic reduction to the presence of salmonella in UK eggs and the Food Standards Agency has recently confirmed that they are the only eggs that are safe to be consumed runny, or even raw, by vulnerable groups.'

' Over 90% of UK eggs are now produced under the British Lion scheme.'

Note it down where? What would it achieve? What outcome do you want that hasn’t been satisfied by informing them and getting a new pizza?

TeaAndCake321 · 01/02/2020 20:12

You do realise that none of the food (except pizzas) are made in the restaurants at f&b don’t you? Their meals are made in a factory, frozen and then microwaved on site. If you were that conscious you’d chose somewhere else to eat. My mate used to work there, she wouldn’t eat anything from there other than the pizza, funnily.

BennytheBall · 01/02/2020 20:14

Farrow and Ball sell pizzas?

My first thought too!

F&B does not mean Frankie and Benny's!

Firecarrier · 01/02/2020 20:16

Definitely sue them and make a massive deal about it in front of your child. It's the only reaction to slightly undercooked flour and water and the only way to make sure your child doesn't grow up with anxiety

Gosh I wish I'd insisted on notes beimg made on my medical rwcords every time an hcp cocked up and forgotbsomething or got something wrong, but hey that's entitled innit.

Far far worse things happen.

anothernamejeeves · 01/02/2020 20:20

I'm a hcp with anxiety and this wouldn't even register as a concern

Berrymuch · 01/02/2020 20:26

I'm sure he will be fine, what on earth will them recording it in their accident book achieve? Proof if you decide to sue them? Just keep an eye on him, so bizarre.

bobstersmum · 01/02/2020 20:27

I'm a real fretter but this wouldn't even flicker my radar.

Poppi89 · 01/02/2020 20:29

I can't see how them noting anything down would help the situation. Surely if he gets seriously ill you can say he ate a pizza that was undercooked but it couldn't be proven it was the pizza that's responsible for his illness anyway. When you eat out you have no idea how things are stored, prepared or where the ingredients came from so there is always a risk.
I doubt he will be poorly and if he is maybe just a small stomach upset but I wouldn't worry too much.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/02/2020 20:33

I'd be concerned if the pizza had uncooked meat in prior to the successful heating up. But not overly concerned otherwise.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/02/2020 20:34

I’m an ex-nurse, and I eat raw cake batter, and I have never had any problems from doing so.

That said, I eat raw cake batter when I am baking - I wouldn’t eat it in a restaurant, because I wouldn’t know how long ago it had been made, or whether it had been safely stored (and yes, I know how nuts this sounds, when I am talking about eating raw egg and raw flour - Grin).

So if the pizza dough was made a while ago, and if it wasn’t stored properly, there might be a higher risk of it causing food poisoning - but a decent place ought to have good enough food hygiene and handling standards, that any risk is pretty low.

I also think that stomach acid acts as a first line of defence against bacteria in food - many will not survive it - so I wouldn’t worry too much, @ThisMustBeMyDream - I doubt your little one is going to get ill - in fact, it might boost his immunity (as any exposure to bacteria/viruses can).

pelirocco123 · 01/02/2020 20:35

I would be more concerned they are making pizza with pastry lol

You are being ridiculous

withlotsoflove · 01/02/2020 20:38

I’m concerned that as a HCP this hasn’t been covered somewhere sometime in your training?
Don’t worry.

SnickettyLemon · 01/02/2020 20:39

I come from a long line 'bowl lickers' never known any of us to get sick.

SnickettyLemon · 01/02/2020 20:42

^^ Mixing bowl, obviously!

APatchyTomCat · 01/02/2020 20:44

Getting them to write it down won’t stop him getting ill.

lottiegarbanzo · 01/02/2020 20:45

Who the fuck makes pizza dough out of pastry? Yuck.

Kwkwjwkek · 01/02/2020 20:47

You’re being over dramatic

Rosebel · 01/02/2020 20:47

I'm guessing you wanted it noted so you can sue them if your son gets ill? YABU regardless.

EerieSilence · 01/02/2020 20:48

As far as I remember, we had been nicking Mam’s raw dough when little and licked cake mix bowl. Nothing is as good as creamed egg yolk with sugar. DD does the same. Never an issue.
Also, the same goes for rice. The only exception is raw or undercooked poultry.
Give me a nice steak tartare and I am yours though.

DartmoorChef · 01/02/2020 20:50

I grew up eating raw cake mix, raw potato, raw sausages... I was never ill.

Your kid will be absolutely fine.

DumpedByText · 01/02/2020 20:51

So hopefully he won't be poorly, but what will you expect if he is. Its not an accident so can't be put in the accident log!

I'd chill if I was you, it's very unlikely he will be ill.
