Bedroom trends over the years

During my lack of sleep last night I started to remember the bedroom decor over the years - any one else recognise these? I had the wallpaper, bedding and ornaments all over my room
First off was Holly Hobby, a young girl wearing a large blue fluffy hat and patchwork dress
Then I evolved to Victoria Plum, a character with a flower on her head
A Pierrot clown phase - a scary black and white clown - wallpaper and even toiletry holders
Rosebuds over everything. Had my sons Moses basket covered with this fabric so he would match my bedding, wallpaper and make up brush holder. Marks and spencer blamed for this one
Then the celestial phase. Even had candlesticks and vases with this

Also had Victoria plum! I was jealous of my friend with Pierrot!
There don't seem to me "themes" any more. Maybe there is and my two are past it.

A red, black and grey theme in the 80s (particularly wallpaper and matching bedding and curtains).

Yes- all diagonal lines!!

There was a whole rustic American flag theme for teenage rooms- duvets, cushions, walk art in washed out, faded flag style, about 10 years ago.

You missed out Pound Puppies!

missyB1 · 31/01/2020 09:39

I remember having Paddington bear curtains when I was little but my mum made those herself. Nothing was ever matching in our house though, mum had no money or flair for styling bless her.

shamelessfamilyoverroad · 31/01/2020 09:40

Definitely diagonal lines and borders lol. I had lime green and blue stripes with a lime green border. Oh the horror now lol.

amusedbush · 31/01/2020 09:43

Definitely diagonal lines and borders

My dad drew a wavy line horizontally across my bedroom walls and painted the two halves different shades of turquoise. I paired it with a bright yellow carpet, yellow curtains, yellow lamp... Blush

Was the rosebud M&S stuff this? I had the full shebang when I was a child. My Mum went all out. Curtains, bedding, wallpaper, ornaments. Unfortunately I was a tomboy and hated the bloody lot.

I can't even imagine matching that many different items in a room now. My Mum had a different M&S matching set that was cream and peach. She still has a plant pot from that and one of my ornaments from the rosebud collection.

I also remember Holly Hobby!
I didn’t have it but had two very classy Pierrots (preens).
In my school there was a craze for Sarah Moon pictures shortly after. There were also a lot of dreamy, mystic unicorn type posters and of course the Athena cute animal photo posters with “sayings”
I remember friends’ parents’ having that built in storage on the bed head wall that must feel like sleeping in an MRI scanner. It was usually white and elaborately moulded.

Boys usually had red, grey and black and yes lots of matching bed linen, curtains and wallpaper.

Lots of people didn’t really have styled bedrooms too though I remember. Just a room with the random decor it had before with some personal stuff in it. My poshest friend’s house was like that. They all had “grown up” fairly plain bedrooms with brown furniture and plain curtains but might have the odd poster and their stuff scattered about. The playroom was more child orientated.

notanotherjigsawpiece · 31/01/2020 09:49

Isn’t it all grey and crushed velvet now? Or that god-awful frog tape wall look.......

nevermorelenore · 31/01/2020 09:51

I had Snatch the Dog for years. Including the border of course for that 90s look! Once I grew out of it I had horrible florals for years until they got covered in posters.

Sorry Sara Moon.

sweetkitty · 31/01/2020 09:54

Teenage DD1 has white and light grey, very plain and minimalist. She was laughing the other night at my teenage bedroom - I covered the whole room in posters from Smash Hits! I had a whole wall dedicated to Tom Cruise!

shamelessfamilyoverroad · 31/01/2020 10:08

I had forever friends things all over the teddies and picture frames. Also the smash hits posters!

LER83 · 31/01/2020 10:35

@nevermorelenore yes I had snatch, the whole lot, curtains, wallpaper, bedding etc. Was always jealous of my friend as she had the pink version whereas I had the blue!

CocoLoco87 · 31/01/2020 10:52

I had pink snatch bedding! Followed by white broderie anglais (sp?) Confused

inwood · 31/01/2020 14:39

I had middy, then Laura Ashley bloody sweet pea. It was awful. My kids have got roald Dahl and unicorns. I think there's still themes it's just fashion that changes.

inwood · 31/01/2020 14:39

Muddy? Noddy!

shortytrekker · 31/01/2020 14:44

My trendy friends had Forever Friends everything!

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 31/01/2020 14:51

I had the very classy dark blue and gold stars and moons bedroom. It wasn’t subtle at all, I had matching bedding, pillows, curtains lampshades and my gran made me a huge gold velour cushion as big as me to match so I could lie on it and do my homework write love notes to boys Grin
