Bedroom trends over the years

During my lack of sleep last night I started to remember the bedroom decor over the years - any one else recognise these? I had the wallpaper, bedding and ornaments all over my room
First off was Holly Hobby, a young girl wearing a large blue fluffy hat and patchwork dress
Then I evolved to Victoria Plum, a character with a flower on her head
A Pierrot clown phase - a scary black and white clown - wallpaper and even toiletry holders
Rosebuds over everything. Had my sons Moses basket covered with this fabric so he would match my bedding, wallpaper and make up brush holder. Marks and spencer blamed for this one
Then the celestial phase. Even had candlesticks and vases with this

Thelwell for me - little fat ponies everywhere 🥰 I had wallpaper, duvet set, cushions, lampshade, the lot!

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/02/2020 02:00

MrsMoasty. I had that but in mauve. In 1974.

lorettalemon · 01/02/2020 02:21

I had peter rabbit everything, with a scattering of holly hobbie things before I was old enough to start choosing, then came the smash hits and dolphin posters, groovy chick stuff, inflatable armchair, shaun the sheep hot water bottle case, lava lamp, various other novelty lamps from Argos, a lot of glittery and fluffy things, later on a pine 🤢 computer cupboard....with dial up internet!

I thought this was going to be a thread about fluffy handcuffs etc.

embolass · 01/02/2020 06:21

Circa 86/87 it was the primary coloured dashes / / /
\ \ \ on a white wallpaper background with marching curtains, but accessorised with peach M & S bedroom ornaments ?!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 01/02/2020 07:17

If you want more home decor nostalgia, check out the documentary series Signs of the Times on iPlayer. It's wonderful: think it's late 80s or early 90s and people explain their decor choices.

Bluesheep8 · 01/02/2020 07:45

Oh gosh, I had a pink Snatch the dog quilt cover! Also had an actual huge Snatch the dog plush dog in a lying position that lay across the bottom of my single bed. Also had Paddington bear curtains before that, and recall pierrot wallpaper. Does anyone remember having matching biggie cases though? I recall having a nightie case to match my holly hobbie room.
Also, the 'mum' equivalent at the time was a theme called 'the country diary of an Edwardian lady' does anyone remember that? Bedding, curtains, wallpaper, lampshades and even an address book.

Bluesheep8 · 01/02/2020 07:46

NIGHTIE cases!!Confused

Northernsoullover · 01/02/2020 07:53

blue I loved the Country Diary stuff. I just had pink, grey and white as a colour scheme. Loved it.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 01/02/2020 07:55

Oh God. Holly Hobby, Victoria Plum, then Garfield. I didn't like pierrots otherwise I would have had them too.

Posters of Worzel Gummidge, then Culture Club then Wham!

embolass · 01/02/2020 07:56

Oh yes! Edwardian Lady - the matching address book and notelets ha ha

clairethewitch70 · 01/02/2020 08:09

Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady - when I moved into this house it was the decor of the main bedroom which is now a lavender and white theme

Every boy in the 80s had those red grey and black diagonal stripe curtains with matching bedding. It was like it was the law.

My friend’s mum worked at M&S so my friend had a room full of the rosebud stuff in the late 80s. I quite covered it. My parents did mine in Laura Ashley thin pink and white stripe wallpaper with one of those huge swaggy blinds (can’t remember what they’re called) in pink floral fabric.

Girls about 10 years younger than me had Bang on the Door bedding etc with Groovy Chick on it.

My most hated bedroom/interiors look at the moment is the grey crushed velvet and sparkly shit look. It’s everywhere.

Asterisktheknackered · 01/02/2020 08:31

My friend was ver posh as her mum had entire eternal beau collection, I was so jealous.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 01/02/2020 08:32

Everything tie-dyed with lava lamps and stenciled peace signs.

Cauliflowerpower · 01/02/2020 08:34

I've still got my M&S rosebud duvet! Its I'm the airing cupboard but I e not had a single bed to put it on. Now my girls have bunk bed its going to be pressed into action as a spare!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/02/2020 08:37

Rainbow Brite as a small child. Matching bed linen, curtains and wallpaper.

Ooh! I forgot that I had Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady bedding. Mum had a big diary in it. That stuff was a smash hit, I think one Christmas at least 40% of women must have got something from that range.

Standrewsschool · 01/02/2020 08:42

In the day’s of sheets and blankets, I had a ‘cover’ on my bed. I had Fred Bassett, and my sister Paddington bear (just outed myself!).

Teen years, red theme with paper, round, globe lampshades. Globe shape, not actual globes.

TeetotalKoala · 01/02/2020 08:53

Snatch the dog!! I'd forgotten about him. I never really had a theme as we moved every two years, but I recognise a lot of these from friends houses, and generally 80s/90s decor. I never understood the obsession with the clown. This thread has taught me his name though.

At 16, we'd finally settled in somewhere and after 5 years of some delightful pink and white florals, my mum agreed to me redecorating. I went for the stars and moons theme. Lilac walls, stars and moons border, new blue carpet and the matching curtains, duvet set, sheet and throw.

Got some use out of this soft furnishings though. The duvet set and sheet are in rotation for my DC (handy to have spares) and it was the duvet set and curtains in our spare room before the DC arrived.

The throw is still used daily. DS1 loves it and drags it to the sofa whenever he sits on it. It's looking very faded these days.

In fact, this is my sofa right now...

squeamishsquamish · 01/02/2020 08:54

I had Laura Ashley wallpaper (little green specks on a cream background) with a matching floral border and floral curtains.

TeetotalKoala · 01/02/2020 08:56

I've also still got my Glo-Worms pillowcases from when I was a child. And I had two with headgehogs and rabbits on too. One pink one blue. They're also in the DC rotation. They still look brand new, no bobbling or anything. They look newer than the ones we've bought in the last five years! DS1 usually has one of those as his bottom pillowcase, and the top matches his duvet.

Lightlyfebreezed · 01/02/2020 09:03

I'm a bit younger, but my nursery as a baby was decorated courtesy of the Hillbilly Bears. Fuck knows where my mother got them from, I've never seen any other HB stuff since.

Yes to the country diary stuff, my aunt spent a fortune on redecorating in that style. Surely it's due a resurgence, given all the wildflower prints I see around?

Nobody seems to have ornaments or trinket boxes any more, do they? When did that happen?

TeetotalKoala · 01/02/2020 09:03

This is the rabbit one he currently has on his bed. I looked them up recently and it looks like it was bought from a catalogue in the 80s, which sounds about right for my mum. Definitely had it in the 80s. Think I've had them since I was about 3 (1985) based on photos of my childhood.

I still have my pink pierrot bath towel. It must be 37 years old now! The edges are frayed and the pattern is only just visible. It only comes out after river swims or canoeing trips when I'd never use a good towel.
My girls are totally bemused when I tell them that this was once a thing!
