I have spent fifty years - okay, cumulatively probably just fifty minutes - being utterly convinced Exeter was near Cambridge.

Today I had to check it in a map! Who knew? It’s kind of a Torquay/Plymouth way.

My world is tilting in its axel.

Anyone have other random finds like this?

@FreezerBird How is Edinburgh further WEST of Carlise, Cardiff and Bristol? I've just double checked on a map and it's definitely more East...isn't it??

slipperywhensparticus · 23/01/2020 10:13

We went to sheerness on the trains once we went via london we were all confused I thought the capital city was more inland?

CinderEmma · 23/01/2020 10:14

Is Rutland Derbyshire??

SoupDragon · 23/01/2020 10:15

it's definitely more East...isn't it??

They are virtually in a straight line but Edinburgh is slightly further west.

ImportantWater · 23/01/2020 10:16

It’s the Caribbean that gets me every time. Something in me is convinced it should be off the West coast of the US, not the east.
I would have said Rutland was in Yorkshire if pressed, but realise that is probably wrong.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2020 10:17

.

Well I never, that’s where that town is!
TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 23/01/2020 10:18

@BigusBumus ah, for some reason I thought it was ROI

My geography is crap. It’s getting better with the help of my ten year old and our doing sporcle quizzes together all the time.

poorbuthappy · 23/01/2020 10:18

@Speekachu I've just done the same thing. Confused

MaMisled · 23/01/2020 10:18

I found out yesterday that Northampton isnt near the Scottish border. Id been sure it was for 53 years!

TravellingWanabee · 23/01/2020 10:19

For a long time (as a child/teenager I hasten to add) I thought Blackpool was on the south coast of England... I think it was because I knew it was a seaside town (from all the times my dad told me it was "like Blackpool illuminations in here" whenever I left a light on) and somehow assumed that seaside towns had to be on the south coast of England.

It somehow didn't occur to my young self the whole country is an island... Confused

TravellingWanabee · 23/01/2020 10:20

I also (far more recently Blush ) thought Middlesborough was, well, in the Midlands...

SoftBlocks · 23/01/2020 10:22

I though Ipswich was where Swindon is and vice versa.
I also thought Dunkirk was in Scotland.

SoftBlocks · 23/01/2020 10:23

I always think Surrey is further East than it is.

HeronLanyon · 23/01/2020 10:23

I agree Swindon is in the wrong place. For me it needs to move further west and be on the coast also.
The Edinburgh map is slightly freaking me out !

QuimReaper · 23/01/2020 10:24

@SoupDragon That demonstrates Edinburgh is east of Cardiff!

bananamonkey · 23/01/2020 10:25

Andover should definitely be in France.

QuimReaper · 23/01/2020 10:26

It is west of Carlisle and Brist9l though.

I am very confused by the whole post, seems to imply Cardiff and Bristol are in a straight line when they're definitely not!

HeronLanyon · 23/01/2020 10:27

How on earth Grin is Edinburgh west of Liverpool. This is all wrong. Wrong.

TheFaerieQueene · 23/01/2020 10:30

@tomatoesandstew I love your spelling of Kidderminster 😍. I think someone should name change to Kiddieminster.

sashh · 23/01/2020 10:33

The thing I don't understand is why my brother who lives in Cornwall goes to Brittany on holiday.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 23/01/2020 10:34

One of the things I had to get used to when I started doing Scotland in the HGV, is that most of it is quicker to access via the A69/M74. Even Falkirk on the east coast is an hour closer, even if it's another 30 miles over the A1 route.

Buttons4me · 23/01/2020 10:35

I thought the Cotswolds were in the lake district. Family been invited to wedding in the Cotswolds thought it would be a trip over to the lake district but no. Couldn't believe it down past London if that's right.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2020 10:35

I missed that Cardiff was included . I was just going on the original Carlisle and Bristol.

TitchyP · 23/01/2020 10:37

I though Carlisle was in Eastern Scotland unless I saw that map ^

TitchyP · 23/01/2020 10:37

*until I saw that map!
